Third time lucky perhaps...KK, Bennell and Paddy??

Key forward Paddy McCartin is ready, willing and able to return to the AFL.

With his recent concussion battle behind him, the 24-year-old says he is fit, motivated and better prepared than ever to again play AFL after spending two years on the sidelines recovering from concussion and regaining fitness.

100% absolutely not.  We're fortunate Brayshaw managed to come back from his nasty concussion a few years back.  We are also paying a 3 year contract on KK who won't add to his 2 games for us in early 2019 thanks to a return of his concussion issues.  Australian Rules football is a contact sport - head knocks are difficult to completely avoid, and McCartin has by all accounts been horrifically debilitated during his protracted recovery from his last head injury.

For his sake, let alone ours, let us not go down this path.

I would take him. i understand the concern but for a rookie salary, he would provide good depth, with significant upside. i think as a team we should always be looking at opportunities to bring in guys with minimal risk and significant upside potential.

we're not talking about a guy we'd have to pay anything for. a token late pick, on hardly any money, and a guy who's best footy would defintiely be in our best 22.

I'd still pursue a gun forward as well, but if a 4th round pick was between McCartin, and a total spitball rookie with little chance of making it, i'd take a punt on McCartin with a 1 year deal.

Brayshaw's mother needed hypnotherapy to coke with the anxiety about him back playing after his concussion run.  McCartin's mother would have to be given opium every quarter time break if he was back on the field.

I like the club taking risks on players who may or may not succeed, but I can't embrace being responsible for that level of genuine risk at the more human level.

Sorry Mr Shadow not sure what you mean can you explain a bit please.

I'm not a medical person, Mr Old, but i believe only the tip of the iceberg is known about long term CTE issues. Life is full of calculated risks. IMO this is one to step away from

At the moment we are in the grip of a worldwide pandemic where we are told every day to listen to the experts.

If the story is being correctly reported the best experts around are telling McCartin he has no greater chance of concussion than the next guy.

Why so quick to dismiss the possibility

Ha ha sorry Mr Shadow I was having a joke. Being serious I agree 100%. For his long term future I hope no one takes him.

He wasn't as professional with his standards as he should have been at St Kilda and list sizes will be reducing.

I can't see anyone throwing him a lifeline, but I could be wrong.

He will not play again, no matter how much he would like to.

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
