What are the rumours? Enlighten us all. There is thatĀ much stuff made up about players at this time of year, so why not just spell it out? Is it that you think he is coming back to the city of MelbourneĀ

No, no, I am just noting that there has never been a time when there have not been rumours about Jesse Hogan.Ā  I know nothing and, I expect, that's as much as almost anyone else!

No, I know less.

Someone present some whispers - real or fake I don't care at this point!

Firm mail

And I think we'll be chasing a draft place over a player... (my view not the mail)

Edited by Graeme Yeats' Mullet

Did some thinking about the Preuss rumors linking him to Sydney and GWS.

Based on the draft order as is, both these deals rank Preuss in 'pick terms' as a value of pick 35 which i think is fair.

Which would you rather and give us the best platform to bring in what we need.

Equation 1,Ā out: Preuss, P47Ā  in: P22

Equation 2, out: Preuss, P47 in: P39, P46, P66Ā

depends what you can then parlay for a higher pick, so i'd probably say equation 2 as it gives you future trading options - i'm particularly keen on the first rounders this year for gw$ and footscray, and next year for the filth

they'll want to move them to maximise points; gw$ are already in deficit and i presume they've got another dodgy academy selection in 2020?

i think it's important that all trade periods are looked at in a totality in terms of what you bring in because under the afl's system you must spend beyond 95% and up to 105% of your cap

last year for instance i think we traded out the 2021 first plus frost and it effectively netted us jackson, pickett, langdon, and tomlinson - i'd say four automatic selections as part of our best squad of 26 players

i'd be pretty okay with the outcome this year if we could somehow work it that we were losing brayshaw, t mac, preuss, hawks' pick 22 and bringing in saad, polec, and one of sideshow bob or hogan (preferably the latter) or two of those plus being back into the first round this season or with an extra first rounder next year

Demons are into Ben Ronke as part of deal for Preuss.

Ā AlexĀ Witherden Lions. āœ…Ā - Yes please

Ā Jared Polec Kangas Ā ?Ā - North would have to pay us for me to accept this

Ā Ben Brown Kangas ?Ā - Would be fine with it, but think Daniher more worth a crack

Ā Quinton Narkle. Cats Ā ?Ā - Who?

Isaac Cumming Ā Giants. ?Ā  - Wouldn't get ahead of Rivers or Salem at HB. Rather Witherden.

Ā

So far the club have delisted 3 players, unlike some others that have cast many off. This will barely cover the downsizing of the list so more will probably go but 2 retirement candidates still have a year to run ( KK & Jetta) on their contracts. Lockhart would be positioned to come of the rookie list for a permanent spot

Petty, if fit is the missing extra tall up forward or back we had hoped to step up this year. Brown should be retained as both are a better long term prospect than sticking with Oscar. Other movement may come from others wanting better opportunity elsewhere but they will hopefully draw extra draft spots. I believe we will be quiet this year having gone hard last year toĀ get Jackson, Picket and Rivers. I cannot believe this wanting to get rid of Sparrow, he has 2 years in the system with lots of injuries. He has a lot of upside and can run and gun.

RE what we need, the only hint the club have given is Goody identified more outside run. The target should be someone who has the talent but cannot get a regular game. We want role players and disciplined team players as superstars cost too much. I like Phillips the wingman at Collingwood, he is quick and a raking left foot kick and probably being forced out. The 2 GWS boys who may miss out in the money squeeze. Saad would be good but I think he wants a long contract on big coin. The Swans were masters at this and the Josh kennedy type of deal and player is what I think we need. Ronke has been suggested and that is an excellent idea as is Witherden

Minimal list changes on top of what we have done. Trade out those who want to leave and not make wholesale changes

nah, he said 'forward of centre' as the area of focus in the off-season in the last press conference

Forward of centre includes outside run I would have thought.

Suns open to Will Brodie being traded. Can play inside, but can also play forward. Mitch Wallis-like role is what is suggested in AFL article. Not our greatest need, but interesting nonethelessĀ

my take

Joe Daniher ??Ā  -- wouldnt touch, injury prone, wants ridiculous money and wasnt interested when fit

AlexĀ Witherden Lions. āœ…Ā  -- would fill a need, at a good price, fits age demographic

Jared Polec Kangas Ā ?Ā -- north will pay lots, still young enough, fits a need

Ben Brown Kangas ?Ā -- only on a mitch brown-esque deal, doesnt offer a different style of forward to weid (goalsquare type)

Quinton Narkle. Cats Ā ?Ā - upgrade on current high HFĀ options + younger, needs consistent opportunity to prove worth

Isaac Cumming Ā Giants. ?Ā  - cheap, gives good depth/competition for future, proven moreso than potential draftee at same value

Good list would add Saad and Will Brodie from Suns as a real gun is a top 10 pick not playing in Suns 22 best and they are realistic re his desire to play in AFL

Withenden wouldn't be my choice not on ability but Lockhart Ā is his clone in the back pocket so Saad fits the running bill of HB. Polec similarly on the non Ed L wing. Brodie is a HB Centre or mid is young andĀ Ā Woul be a great top up fir Harmes if he doesn't recover his 2018 form agsin. Plays tall and small I believe from memory.

Don't Ā know Cummings but Narkle looks promising as a HF.

Am interested to know if that is a Brayshaw or a club initiative.

iyv, if we get a draft pick are we likely to go to the draft or use it to trade in a player?

Thanks.

much rather clear Viney but the club has chosen and in my view they are keeping the wrong midfielder

Time will tell

i dont understand why people are disinterested in Ben Ronke. I've got no idea what he's been doing the last 2 seasons but in 2018 I remember him kick a bag of 7 and a bag of 5. That's enough for me to be interested and is ahead of any small forwards we have from kicking a bag.

Tom McDonald kicked a few bags back in 2018 as well and hasn’t been seen since either, keep him?Ā

i've heard we are open to trading an inside midfielder, for a starting best 22 outside midfielder to improve team balance, this is something the club has put out there openly. they've basically said come at us with an offer. as well as talking to outside midfielders on their own.Ā

for the Gus fans on here i'd suspect we aren't going to accept any trade that doesn't result in us getting either a strong draft pick, or a good player in return.Ā

It sounds like Jared Polec is one we think is realistic if North can re-join planet earth and be a bit more understanding of the fact if you shove a bloke out the door you don't really have the leverage to demand much in return.

Ā

I would be a fan of going after Ronke. Fills a need and has played well at the level. Couldn’t crack it forĀ a game recently but I think he has something to offer.Ā

Alex Witherden must be a prime target. I don’t think he will get a look in for the Lions finals team. For some reason , Fagan has left him out and seemingly he is available for offers. Ā
Ā

Dees could look at the Preuss trade pickĀ being passed to the Lions for Witherden. Ā Perhaps GWS pick 37 to Dees and then MFC trades itĀ to Lions for Witherden. Ā

  • PREVIEW: West Coast

It was bad enough that the Melbourne Football Club created yet another humiliating scenario inside its wretched season at Marvel Stadium last Sunday, but the final insult is that it has been commanded to return to the scene of the crime to inflict further punishment on its fans this week. Incidentally, if this match preview, of a game that promises to be one of the most unattractive fixtures in the history of the game, happens to cut out of your computer screen three quarters of the way through, it’s no coincidence. I’ll be mirroring the Demons’ lacklustre effort against St Kilda from last Sunday when they conceded the largest last quarter turnaround for victory in the history of the game.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.

  • CASEY: Sandringham

The Casey Demons rebounded from a sluggish start to manufacture a decisive win against Sandringham in the final showdown, culminating a quarter century of intense rivalry between the fluctuating alignments of teams affiliated with AFL clubs Melbourne and St Kilda, as the Saints and the Zebras prepare to forge independent paths in 2026. After conceding three of the first four goals of the match, the Demons went on a goal kicking rampage instigated by the winning ruck combination of Tom CampbellĀ with 26 hitouts, 26 disposals and 13 clearances and his apprenticeĀ Will VerrallĀ who contributed 20 hitouts. This gave first use of the ball to the likes of Jack Billings, Bayley Laurie, Riley Bonner and Koltyn Tholstrup who was impressive early. By the first break they had added seven goals and took a strong grip on the game. The Demons were well served up forward early by Mitch Hardie and, as the game progressed, Harry Sharp proved a menace with a five goal performance. Emerging young forwards Matthew Jefferson and Luker Kentfield kicked two each but the former let himself down with some poor kicking for goal.
Young draft talent Will Duursma showed the depth of his talent and looks well out of reach for Melbourne this year. Kalani White was used sparingly and had a brief but uneventful stint in the ruck.
