@Lord Nev what're you hearing son? any intel for us?

Look, I'll call a truce with you good doctor, not sure how we got tangled up tbh. Sound ok?

On Tuesday I heard Smith was looking pretty good (I wouldn't have gone as far as 100% certain, but seemed fairly firm) for an MFC move. Haven't heard anything since though, other than the media reports about Geelong that have sprung up.

I know a while back Smith wasn't answering Gawn's calls, someone here posted a similar story about Lewis. Might mean nothing and just be how he is though.

Here's a conspiracy for you all. (And it's just that, no inside word or anything)

Maybe we're the ones who have cooled since the new about Treloar broke and are now in talks to bring him across on a Tom McDonald trade and plan on playing him on a wing instead given his outside speed???

Good player and would have been a very handy addition. The fact the Hawks and the Cats are pulling out the stops tells you that. I think the only reason we’re in the conversation though is the 3rd year we’ve offered which is risky for 32 year-old so I’m not too fussed we missed out. Sounds like the club did all it could so no gripes from me on that score.

There are other options. My preference is Phillips followed by Polec.

Keep us posted @Dr evilon what the club is thinking now that it looks like the Smith deal has fallen through.

You only have to read the story about Dusty to GWS in 2013 where it was all agreed and in place but then "pulled from above" at the 11th hour, to know how these things play out.

DrEvil will live and die by his predictions. I have links with the club but no mail offered to me this year. My last mail was we were heavily into Gaff. He never left WC so I looked silly. Will I post if I hear anything.....absolutely, it’s all good fun so let’s keep it that way ok.

I’m in a similar situation. Normally I get some good info but this year is crickets...

Re Gaff: the meeting with Goodwin wasn’t great. Gaff told him he wanted to play pure midfield and Goodwin told him he thought he was a wingman in our system. It never progressed from there.

Oh right, he's in a cats polo is he? hahaha seriously i know how badly people want me to be wrong about this, but wait and see.

Good on you Dr! Keep punching buddy, you’ve added something we’ve needed this off season and best of all, even if none of it comes about, who cares, things do change until the contract is signed.

Well done @MadAsHell, that's a shoe-in to be a 'rumour' on trade radio tomorrow.

Morris is fairly well connected with Melbourne.

Wasn’t little Tom the soft c who ran the MFC podcasts, ran a story about Goody losing the players, was called out for a lie and then called in sick to interview Goody for the podcast the next week, and then made a call to “leave the podcast to focus on his career.”

If it happens that he goes to Geelong, isn't it just marvellous how the free agents keep going to top clubs. I suppose it gives him the chance to play in a premiership side though.....................Wait a minute

What's the punishment if i end up being wrong? (to be clear my vote is the suggestion from Pickett and Bitters)

What’s the backup plan If Smith goes to the geriatric cats?

Maybe Phillips a possibility??

Don't know that story in particular, but could be correct.

He worked for the club at one stage and yeah, didn't exactly endear himself in the end.

Keep it coming @Dr evil - I’m loving the rumours and everyone should be well aware that until the ink is dry, nothing is certain. I reckon your intel is very good and we have been in the box seat for Smith, but - things change and that’s life.

Will just give us another reason to hate Geelong - such a bunch of smug, vanilla footballers!

These things are always very fluid at this time of year with a lot of variables and different influences.

A week ago the information I had was that there was a better than 80/20 chance that Smith would become a Demon. The last I heard on it  earlier in the week was that it was back to 50/50 because of two factors. One was the entrance of Geelong into the equation and the other was from the MFC side with other opportunities and possibilities opening up.

I understand the deal is still on the table and that from MFC side, it is the final iteration.

Personally, I do not see value for money in a deal for Smith at this stage of hie career given our list at the moment..

If I’m Smith I honestly can’t see the need to join the cats and try to win a 4th flag. If he came to us and we won it he’d  be part of demon folklore and afl history. He’d be in a mentoring / leadership role as well and be extending himself in other ways as well.
I def wanted him but there’s more time left in the trade period, let’s see what plan b looks like.

isn't the biggest knock on treloar his disposal? + im sick of us trying to sign players and repurpose them, particularly on the wing. if we want a wingman get phillips

Wow quite the tizzy about an ageing wingman past his best signing a 3 year deal

id prefer we look elsewhere

Keep coming with the rumours/inside word. You’re a new character to the madness of DL and I’m likin it

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
