Gee whizz Evil, not doubting you or your intel, but don't you want to perhaps cut yourself some slack in the chance that perhaps he may have changed his mind, or been swayed elsewhere? I admire and respect your willingness to stay the course, but maybe, just maybe things have changed?

Oh ye of little faith ?

Hahaha i'm confident mate, i trust my sources for the information i post on here and the only thing that has changed is the way a couple of journo's are reading the delay. it's their job to appear ahead of the news and provide content, i get it.

I am 100% confident Issac Smith is coming to the demons and the delay in announcing has nothing to do with the cats. it's not even really a delay. but lets call it that haha.

Is your source comfortable that you're supplying demonlanders with intel? It seems your source is close to football management decisions.

Secondly, do we have strong interest in Mihocek? if Brown falls through.

Dr Evil is channeling this dude with every additional report of Geelong’s interest in Smith that comes in.

Issac Smith will be a demon in 2021.

I don't know 100% what the delay is about, but the dees do tend to wait for the window to make things public.

I suspect before Sunday Issac will be rolled out in a red and blue polo.

Luv your work Dr E.

(Im assuming your prediction track record has improved greatly since your very first prediction back in 2014?)

Well we have nothing to worry about then. Good to know with certainty.

Praying that your mail is wrong.

If Geelong snare he & Cameron in free agency it is a bit of a kick in the guts to teams who struggle year in, year out to make the finals. This year they snag the best FAs in market for free and then next year (if they go well) they’ll lose players to clubs (who overpay to lure them) which triggers compensation back to Geelong. It is the cycle that has kept Geelong Hawthorn (and soon Richmond ) strong for unnaturally long periods of time.

One simple fix could help this; have a 3 year rolling period on FA compensation - so, if Geelong lose players to FA next year the FAs they picked up this year would impact their compensation equation

My main concern is that Smith is at the end of his career and is playing for his pay cheque rather than his future. He has nothing to prove and already has 3 flags under his belt. Hard to imagine him retaining the hunger to maintain form and fitness. He may play a role but will it be enough to make a significant difference?

I disagree that players that have won flags have any less hunger than those without. Exhibit A - Richmond.

It’s not a delay. It’s a cautious pause. It’s all the rage in Victoria.

From memory, Smith performed well in their flag wins but your last comment is the issue. All things being equal, a younger player with more to prove makes more sense..

That younger player will likely come in the form of a speculative pick 60 plus in a draft that is said to be of lesser quality and they typically won't bother the scorers.  I'm not big on 3 years and would like him for 2. Would take 2 with some decent triggers for a 3rd year

Interesting point. You may be right. Success breeds success. I guess MFC in the 50s and 60s are an example.  No lost hunger there. Norm did turnover players although the core remained over 10 years.

Agree that 2 years with triggers for a third would be the way I’d like us to go. Someone did make the point earlier in the thread, if he was to help us win the premiership in one of his first two years, do we even care about the third?

Gut feel and nothing else, yes.

Like i said on another thread. Lewis on grandfinal day said he "Smith" had a decision to make between the hawks being on the bottom and geelong who may have success. Even though we have an offer on the table,  Lewis didn't raise the dees as an option. It was at this time i knew we wouldn't win smith's signature. I'm sure Lewis has spoken to Smith. Might have been a slip of the tongue however i immediately thought that was strange

The Cats haven't learned a lesson from this finals series.

Their +30's ran out of legs.

So, why not add a few more to the oldest list in the game.

Yes I hope Smith goes there to Geelong, I think Smith not half the player he was last year, he is finished. At half time of the GF I said to my son, watch how the walking sticks  will come out after  half time.

Edited by don't make me angry

Basically just says Dees in the Box seat to land Smith and Brown without giving up much.

Wonder if Jay Clark gets his info from me?

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?
