Gone into meltdown

Good

we need to get angry

Goodwin presser was pathetic by reporters no asking the hard questions... eg wtf is wrong is it game plan? Is it lack of leadership, mental toughness??? Refer back to fix footy analysis that we lack Steele & are Hollywood or bust... he talks about the club needs to become more ruthless & mature ffs wtf have you been doing the last 4years????

I am also a little worried about Kozzie. Looks like a player who would become a star at a good club, hopefully we turn into that club. Love the effort of Rivers, he looks like being a good player.

Would be a disaster. Looks to have lost his appetite and why wouldn't you after the career he's had?

Give the man a list and lead him to glory. Would be a massive upgrade.

Club isn't live tweeting the presser like they normally do. As someone who works in corp affairs, we call this "risk mitigation".

Club is shielding Goodwin and protecting its digital footprint here. Minimising direct commentary on its branded posts.

Jungle drums.

They’ve done it since the Sydney game - very little content on the official site. Even Ben Gibson said in Before The Bounce, something along the lines that everyone in the hub is working hard and putting in the effort. It sounded a bit forced from him, maybe he got told/asked to put that message across?

Every time Kozzie goes near the ball I am reminded of that time I accidentally dropped a tennis ball on my sleeping cat

I cried laughing at this....seriously

Thinking about this game and the Bulldogs game

We got killed on the clearance, because both WB and Freo had system, fed 1,2,3 Handballs back, around and out to a running player

Watching it tonight it was obvious, that many times they won the ball and 1 or 2 handballs back to a player in a predictable position who could kick it forward

Our players caught ball watching and running around like headless chooks

Awful to watch, but clearly a System failure at the hands of the coach

All over the ground Freo had a clear system and positioning to receive the ball and clear to a player wide.  We don't.  They have been taught that in one preseason from a new coach.

Freo far better than us, though we played pretty dumb footy for a rainy night.  Int he wet, hold position and kick it long and then repeat until you have it in a threatening position.  Its like our players are a week behind in making a decision on how to play.

What is worrying was the 3/4 comment from Goodwin, they defend hard then be brave moving ti forward.  We didn't, there was no dash, not bravery, just kick up the line.  It wasn't until it was too late they turned up the pressure, like against the swans last week and go the same result.

The player in the west was Salem, good clean hands all night even with a "soapy" ball.  Oliver was one of the worst, needed to go put a glove on.  Trac, tried to be everywhere and help and that hurt his game, he needed to sit 30 to 70 out from goal and control that space, esp one out.

At least i didn't put money on them to win, like some people at work :(

Who would be up there to ask the hard questions?

I’ve already done it and I suggest others get it off their chest also.

Done. Keep it tidy as they don't read the insulting ones. All I asked is for them to hold to their word, that if we don';t make finals questions will be asked. I want heads to roll. Do it

The bottom half of tonight's team aren't even good honest toilers, they just don't get anywhere near the footy enough to have any sort of impact.

Clayton Oliver is officially overrated in my eyes. Got schooled today by Cerra and Brayshaw and spent half the night just butchering the absolute [censored] out of the footy.

Getting sucked in by the bad habits of Viney.

I do like Rivers’ poise and cool head. I think we may have found one in him. Although I’m a bit concerned about his speed, time will tell but so far so good.

It’s early days with Kozzie but early indications are concerning for a high pick. Fumbles and doesn’t kick goals.

I’ve said it a few times now but he’s no good when the ball is on the ground.

For somoeone so short he doesn’t get down low enough to pick up the ball.

Luck? Give it a rest.

Freo handled it beautifully

Half time stats said it all.

103 uncontested posessions to 44

I laughed at it in the GameDay thread but that is a diabolical stat. Truly diabolical. They showed the pressure ratings across the comp on On The Couch and we are 3rd last for the year. So we're not winning uncontested footy and we're not bringing the pressure what are we doing? Win the scrum hack it forward rinse repeat.

Media can smell blood in the water. Just put up a graphic of Goodwin’s record since the 2018 prelim during his presser. 12 wins. 25 losses.

He is gone. No doubt about it...

I thought Jack and Langdon were our best. From teh first minute. They turn it over a bit but they had a go, the irony is not lost on me. Our bets and most competitive players are no good with ball in hand.

Yeah Petracca never stopped trying either and May when he could impact the contest.

Any silver lining chasers are welcome but the fact of the matter is we are running out of ideas and 'things to try'.

- We tried dropping the captain, one of our best but running players and our best key forward to send a message.

- We tried having the president giving them a spray

- We tried making copious changes to get the mix right, speed one week and brawn the next.

- We tried making 7 changes for fresh legs

- We tried persisting with the game plan

- We tried bombing it long

- We tried kicking it short

- We tried bringing in a new director of coaching

- We tried bringing in a world renowned fitness guy

We have pretty much tried everything and have run out of ideas. It's an understatement to say the team has regressed, at the start of this season I would have said we didn't have the skill but at least they are following the plan. Now I'm not even convinced they want to follow that plan now.

People are saying to me "at least there will probably be a shake up" what shake up? We're stuck with this situation and these guys have a perfect out with the debacle of a year 2020 is. Coaching staff are probably assured of next year too, worse than government bureaucrats.

They can all stick it as far as im concerned.

Yep I was wondering the same. I'm almost certain some feedback would have been given after the Gawn post-match interview last week

I watched on a very small screen.    I understand that we lost and many here are critical of the players.

Well I must say I don't think it was their problem,  It was wet and we picked the wrong style of play for the night.

The failure was from the Coaching side, the Selectors, the Football Department and anyone who did not think to look at the weather report in the paper or on your phone.  We all have the rain radar app !  and the weather apps !!

And picking 7 changes,  no wonder we played average football.   They should have been rotated a few games ago, not all at once.

Its not whether they are AFL or VFL standard, they are what we have. But the management of these players and the older guys like Jones and Jetta, and even TMac,  its abysmal.

The strategy  and direction of this group or who ever is charged with doing that work is where the problem lies. We have the talent we have the fitness,   We don't have the FOOTBALL SMARTS,   I guess that's where or what the learnings are.    Need a freshen up for next couple of weeks.  Any way not as upset as last week, but we still left the intensity and  effort,       FAR TOO LATE.

As soon as he started talking about the weather again, i switched off. I wonder if other teams actually make their hands sticky and we dont.

That has just about done me. As a Qld member and been paying for myself and twin Grand Sons membership now for over 15 years these last 2 efforts has put me over the edge and will seriously look at not renewing next season. Now 68 and I think I have no hope of seeing this team win consistently or even get close to a flag before I go. At least I was at the G as a 12 year old in 64.

Now for a bit of a rant. You posters wanting speed in the team have got rocks in your heads. Speed is fine but you need to get the ball first. Kozzie, Baker, Bedford, Hunt are all local comp players at best. Not even VFL standard. Might be able to run fast but they run fast away from the play. Throw in the plodders like ANB, Smith, Lever, Melk and also the witch hat up forward in Weid who did not lay a tackle again and you have ONE ORDINARY team. Oh by the way throw one coach in there as well. That's a coach and about half the team that played tonight need to go before I even consider following this useless mob for my next 68 years!!!!

That's it.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
