Agree with almost every criticism here but I have one more to add. We have one of the best taggers in the comp James Harmes, who has wasted away at half back every game without tagging once this year. The week he comes out injured we decide that tagging is actually a viable tactic, and throw a ball using half forward onto one of the biggest and best contested mids in the game. Fyfe 22 touches and 7 clearances. Melksham 9 touches and 2 clearances. Beyond a joke at this point.

This is an excellent comment.

I'm filthy at the moment but I be f--king filthy if they come out and beat GWS next week.

As if, be very surprised if we don't go down by 80+

Could you give a quick rundown for the none foxtel viewers? (no sarcasm, genuinely interested)

I mentioned it earlier, but basically said a) we have a lot of average players, who he named and it’s hard to disagree and b) said our good players (Petracca, Viney, Oliver etc.) lifted, but only as individuals, rather than lifting as a collective and doing the team things.

Cant disagree with either point tbh.

Giants by 80+ next

Pay Goodwin out,it will be far cheaper than 2 more years of Goodwin wasting Gawn,Viney,Petracca,Brayshaw,Oliver and May in their prime.

Take your pets with you Goodwin-Melksham,Vandenberg and Oscar

Does Bartlett have the Balls???

If he doesn't,he has Failed as the Melbourne Football Club President!!!

“It’s great for the Club to announce, prior to the season starting, that Simon Goodwin has signed on for the next four years,” Pert told the club’s website.

“It is certainly a show of confidence from the Board, Josh Mahoney and myself in Simon as a coach and what he is producing out on field, but also the culture that he is building in our football department.

This is the Board signing off that these are the people, this is the leadership, this is the program and this is the culture that we believe will take the Melbourne Football Club to where we want to go over the next four years. It’s an investment in those people and the program, so that makes it pretty exciting.”

It's time for Perty, Mahoney and all other board members who ratified this rubbish extension to pack their bags and walk as well.  They were complicit in this whole extension debacle and the signing of such a long extension on a rookie coach was/is negligent and indefensible.

I had to rewind and hear Garry again. I'd rather listen to this than the bathwater drinkers

Was garbage, As was Baker, as was Pickett.

Couch discussion was so good, and like him or not Lyon nailed everything about the club and the side.

Correct ..  Club needs to go for his replacement as he’s had every thing 2 kpp defenders, new world class fitness coach & healthy list yet same issues for 2 seasons

I just don’t  understand why they can’t get up for these massive crunch games! It surely has to be the coaching? How can you not get players motivated for it? There must be factions within the team - it’s the only reason I can think of as to why it’s so disjointed. Either way, the buck stops with the coach.

Because you post so much rubbish I have no idea if you mean this or not.

You probably do.

Bedford was probably our worst tonight and that's saying something.

At no stage did he do anything to suggest he's got a future at AFL level.

He's not the core problem (coaching, lack of game plan, wholehearted lack of effort and poor leadership), nor was he alone (add Smith, Baker, ANB, Hunt and Preuss to the list) but he's symptomatic of the problem. He's getting games when he's nowhere near good enough.

We picked a team of runners and it poured rain .

Picked Preuss as well but hard to Mark in the wet.

As bad as we are it’s rotten luck.

If the Melbourne Football Club board give him the benefit of the doubt for next season then the pressure on him will be immense.

....and he (Goodwin) will withdraw during the season...how dare someone or a whole football team criticize my judgment..leaving the MFC rudderless, even more desperate and flat broke. Goodwin needs to fall on his small sword, doing the right thing by tens of thousands of Members and supporters, and several hundred past and present players whose lives he has negatively affected.

You can understand why everyone thinks we are a laughing stock and you cant trust us and media asking questions about our DNA.. i hate it all but you just cant argue against any of it. They continue to disappoint and let their very loyal and long suffering members down and it really annoys me that we are teh ones that get the grief off everyone.

As an aside i saw some really ordinary signs of onfield arguing. Its starting to fall apart at the seems.

Never have I been so happy to not watch a game.

Catch ya Goody

Usual Melbourne only started to attack at the end of the game when the game was over. Time for massive change starting with the whole coaching structure and trade Brayshaw.

Yeah, not all of them though. Trac, Viney, Oliver were fantastic.

Oliver was ****house

I know there are some people here who say Goody doesn't go now because it's expensive etc (which I get), but correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the plan to make finals every year?

No finals this year, fail. There's not even enough give in the plan to make it up next year.

No finals, no gig.

Out.

We were never going to win coming into the game with seven changes - especially when several of the ins are VFL players at best. Why can't Bennell get into the side? I know everyone keeps saying he needs to start running both ways, but how many other players over the past two weeks have been guilty of half-hearted efforts when the opposition have the ball. At least he has some polish and finesse and might provide the fans with something semi-enjoyable to watch. There is nothing about this fumbly, systemless, panicky brand of football that is remotely fun to watch.

Anything beats watching this joke of a football club.

Key parts of what  Garry said

*  urgency came too late

* maybe just an average group?

*  average sides/players can’t maintain consistency of effort

* 2018 aberration

* smith, Preuss, Bedford, ANB, Baker average players in what is now an average footy club

* Goodwin coaching average

* took too long to adjust, no passion, urgency until the end

* players trying to win the game by themselves as opposed to team

* good individuals, average team

* not enough resilience in team

They're not going to sack him lads - forget about it. There are too many alibis this year. Played off back to back 4 day breaks in muck conditions after an exhausting win in Alice Springs. They're about where most judges expected them to be. You can complain about the game style all you like, but there's no planning or coaching for two fumbles in D50 and a banana from the boundary on the run.

The Board will give him and the game plan a clear look at it in 2021 with footy being back to 'normal' and I expect next year it's make finals or bust.

No guarantee of a any efficacious vaccine for 2021...

Luck? Give it a rest.

Freo handled it beautifully

Half time stats said it all.

103 uncontested posessions to 44

Can't wait for Maxy's positives, and Goody's Magoo presser.

We lost it in the first half (not true though, we were crap all game except for a few minutes).

This isn't our brand.

Not where we need to be, we need to be a lot better as a footy club.

We're not thinking about finals, we're looking at the next game.

Blah blah blah

Bur wait, RBMB, you forgot the indefinable 'lessons' !!!!!

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

    Way back in March we contemplated the possibility of a Demon resurgence after Simon Goodwin’s summer of love. Many issues at the club had seemingly been addressed, key players were returning from injury and a brand new day was about to dawn. We imagined the coach pulling a rabbit out of a hat. The team would roar up the charts, push aside every opponent and make its way to a Grand Final ending in ultimate triumph with Goody and Max holding the premiership cup aloft under a shower of red and blue ticker tape.

    We’re back! That was fun. The Mighty Dees’ Season 10 campaign is off toa flying start with a commanding 48-point winover the Western Bulldogs, retaining the Hampson-Hardeman Cup in style. After a hard-fought first half in slippery conditions, the Dees came out in the second half and showcased their trademark superior class, piling on four goals in the third termand never looked back.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

    The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there.When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

    The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
