Win this and we are ready to launch. I want to believe.

Looking at the AFL season stats this week interesting to see we are ranked 14th in clearances and 18th in tackles (averages). I thought these areas were our one wood? Maybe our game style has evolved for the better!

We will know early if our improved use of the ball by hand and foot stands up against a quality side. If we revert back to pinball style it will be all over. Hold your nerve boys.

Agree

I'm hopeful, but worried that a sharp Bulldogs midfield will have us revert to sloppy forward movement

Super excited for this one, heading in with the family and some friends I am converting to dees.

Hopefully it's a cracking game which I am expecting it to be.

Looking forward to watching the off the ball work rate of Langdon live today.

If you can get close enough, please direct some feedback to umpire 31 on my behalf.  He's listed as the Emergency

Nervous about this one - still expecting the old Melbourne, resting on their laurels, turning up tripe and getting pantsed.

Edited to add: It’s easy to get up for the ‘big’ games, but it’s taking care of the Doggies and the Saints which will ultimately make the difference.

Looks like the Dogs will start favourites. In from $2.15 to $1.94 since yesterday. Guessing all to Maxy being out.

Trac, Oliver, Brayshaw, Viney and Langdon will be too much for the Dogs to handle in the midfield.

Weideman to kick 5, Kozzie, Spargo, Melk 2 each.

Preuss to smash into weak skinny English all day and have him limping by the end of the 3rd quarter.

This is a 'litmus test' game for the Dees, but we have been building, and I'm confident this will continue.  Our fitness will see us home by 3 or 4 goals, in what should be a 'cracker' of a game.

We will smash the dogs today. They might have more depth in the midfield but Petracca, Oliver and Brayshaw are more dynamic and damaging than their top 3 mids. Go Dees!!

Don't underestimate their midfield power. They've been inconsistent this year, but when on song it's right uo their with the best.

Lachie Hunter and Caleb Daniel are red alerts for me. Their run and dash will hurt us if we do not put in the time into them.

Danger game. So [censored] nervous..

Gold Coast area

Mostly sunny. Areas of dust haze during the morning and afternoon. Winds northwesterly 15 to 20 km/h turning westerly 25 to 30 km/h in the morning then increasing to 30 to 45 km/h in the middle of the day.

45km/h is a '2 club wind'.

Two pretty evenly matched teams on paper.  Two gun midfields going at it.  Looking forward to it.   Hopefully we see the vs Richmond Dogs against the vs Collingwood Demons.

It's just going to come down to us finishing our work in the forward line. Do that and we win.

Totally agree. Would be good to see Fritsch straighten up this week.

Going to be tough kicking conditions

Probably no crowd now since they announced new cases in southeast Queensland...

Gatherings have only been restricted on gatherings without COVID safe plans.

I dont know what to feel about todays game. I have tipped us the last 3 weeks, but dont feel so confident today.

A few others have mentioned the Doggies leg speed and i think thats likely to be a fair factor in who wins. Dogs and Saints were my 2 biggest worries as far as being cut up speed wise, so today tells me more about us than last week i reckon.

If we can win, finals are a lock IMO, but i think the Dogs might get over us by a few goals.

Still, GO DEES !!!

The 'conversion' should be complete by the end of the day GCS.

we beat collingwood when our ruck and midfield were not exactly on fire. Pruess should be the better ruckman today given the doggies stats, and our midfield is unlikely to be having two bad weeks.  I assume the dogs midfield strategy acknowledges they will lose the ruck so have their players ready to pounce on the opposition players when they take the ball to shake it lose.  If we can continue our good form and Tom Mac can add some additional firepower up front then we will win this one.  I just hope they learnt their lesson from last week it is not the number of inside 50's that count its the quality of the delivery and finishing off.

Toss a coin up for this one. Interesting to see us play a decent side.

I'm looking forward to watching Kozzie Pickett turn it on today.

Clear sunny day on a dry deck. Last time he played in those conditions he turned it on against the Hawks.

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
