There’s been a lot of discussion in recent days about who are the most improved players in the competition but when it comes to the title of the most improved team in the AFL, Melbourne must be shortening as favourite. Last year’s Demons won only 5 games out of 22 but this year, it’s 6 out of 11 and that’s massive!

In terms of percentage, the improvement is also tremendous. Last year, they finished with just 78.6%. This year, it stands at 118.2%.

Need I say more?

Yes — there’s still today, a day upon which a win is absolutely essential in shaping the course of the remainder of 2020.

Yes, we are in a very promising position, very much akin to 2018 imho. I also remember we were playing every week for our survival in the race to the finals in the last six weeks or so. It seemed to make us thrive, and created real momentum. If anything, our task this time is easier as we have an easier draw and a game in hand...

Having said that it could all collapse with one or two losses but it is fun while it lasts. I tip we end up in fifth position, which gives us a “home” final....

Go Dees!

Massive game it will show us where we are at against a full strength Bulldogs outfit. I expect Tomlinson, Preuss and Tommy to have big games.

Still Friday where I am and the game starts at 5.45am for me so it will all be over by breakfast. Looking forward to the alarm going off so I can watch the game. Should be a cracking game and it will be close up to three quarter time with our fitness making the difference in the last quarter.

Dees by 3 goals. Petracca BOG

The first couple of wins from our run were against quite clearly the two worst teams in the AFL right now, and we comfortably beat a depleted Pies outfit who were also off a shorter break. I’m not saying we dismiss those wins but this is the major test.

The dogs are on the same points as us but we have the better percentage, a win here gets a little separation while gets us closer to the top 6. This is most definitely an 8 pointer.

Oh yes I've been waiting for this one, for years I've argued with the Footscray boys at work who's the better midfield. I think we might see an all out gun fight Oliver and Petracca vs Macrae and Bontempelli. Wow.

I've got a rack of beef ribs, a cape from scotch fillet and 2 dinosaur size tomahawk ribeyes, fair to say the father in law and I are going to eat like kings... Time for a beer, photos to come.

I confess I'm worried about the Bulldogs game. And I'm probably not alone.

Dogs pace worries me. They match our inside mid strength so huge contest. Its a big test and given our draw, might be the difference between finals or not !

Need Weid or Tmcd to really kick a few goals

I’m heading to Metricon today. And I’m damn excited! This should be a cracking game. Going to be on in the middle and hope Trac, Clarry, Vines and Brayshaw get on top in there.
Nice clear morning but winds expected to pick up during today. Hopefully not to bad.

Looking forward to seeing Weids continue some strong form, loving what he is doing at the moment. Down the coast for the weekend from Brisbane so will be a nice relaxing morning before heading off to the ground!

Bah, no doomsayers today please.

We're hot, we're on a roll and it's bye bye Doggies! Scummy western 'burbs types trying to rise above their rightful social station - bah to them!

PS for punters. All previous online punting failures can be rectified today. Dees a cert!

Seems like a an eternity since we played.

Good things worth the wait. Preuss is in despite the anxiety and has already proven himself. The boys are choc full of confidence coming off 3 big wins. Onballers in fine form and the frwd structure seems to be doing really well. Should be fine. Weve got this.Dees by 36.

Then again, someone hold me.

Any spare room for those spare ribs?

This is the 8 point game for the purist in me. No tags please just let Trac, Clarry, Bray, Viney, Sparrow  go head to head with Bont, Dunkley, McRae, Libba, Smith. Put the close check on Daniel and May needs to work Naughton under the ball all day. As long as a forward or two step up and take their chances we should win this and really set ourselves for a run at it. If we lose I suspect it will show our deficiencies on the outside still and give us a chance to try and resolve any issues before a tighter run to secure a finals chance.

That sounds bloody amazing! Enjoy mate

Three things will see us win:

Our defensive Setup and willingness to run both ways.  Closing off their ability to move it with speed from the contest will be critical in this.

Inside mids setting up correctly.  Not getting sucked into contests and breaking out of contest zones so we don’t do the work inside and get pillaged outside.

kicking efficiency and marking.  Given the windy conditions forecast, this might be the most important thing.  Manage our tempo and control the footy and I think the dogs can’t get near us.

    TRAINING: Monday 20th January 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator attended training out at Casey Fields to bring you the following observations from Preseason Training. GATOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS There were 5 in the main rehab group, namely Gawn, Petracca, Fullarton, Woewodin and Lever.  Laurie was running laps by himself, as was Jefferson.  Chandler, as has been reported, had his arm in a sling.  Lindsay did a bit of lap running later on. Some of the ''rehab 5'' participated in non contact drills and b

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov
