We're getting some good service from the umps, but we're clearly the better team of the half.

Spargo has been devine!

Yeah but their backline is completely shot all we have to do is keep pumping it in there

Reckon Vanders has shown us in this first half why Goody loves having him in the side.  He might make a few errors, but his toughness around the contest is invaluable.  Smashed Mihocek and got up and walked away like it was nothing.

What is the weather pattern coming in

will it rain or remain dry?

We have to keep the pressure on

Wow ok so first half has actually been enjoyable to watch. If we lead by this margin at 3/4 time I might actually jump off here and enjoy the last qtr lol

They've had 7 scoring shots from 20 inside 50s (we've had 14 shots from 20).

Our defence is being put under too much pressure from centre bounces. We're doing better when they're trying to rebound from their back half, they're not tearing through us too often.

Oliver is starring and Petracca and Brayshaw are playing well, but we definitely need a lift in the middle. Grundy, Adams, Sidebottom and Pendlebury are walking out of the middle too much, and Varcoe and Noble are pacy off half-back.

the entries to the forward line have been really good tonight

however I’m worried about lever.  When we got him from Adelaide I was really pleased, but i just wonder how that 2nd reconstruction has impacted him.  He seems to have no speed off the mark and seems to avoid physical contact.  He is well overdue to start producing at top 5 player in the team level - which is what he is being paid at

Just keep Oliver in the centre square at every bounce.

Preuss doing well, better than I thought he'd go. Plus his long kicks have been great. Accurate kicking also helps.

Spargo doing well. Just saty down and don't fly for the marks.

Just need to tighten down on pendles, adams and steele.

But I love how after the pies kick a goal we seem to respond.

The umps will relaise they have given us more frees, so no doubt they will try to even it up.

Tommy is getting into the game and Weid has looked good.

Just keep on going melbourne.

He's been excellent for the last month.

Two big mistakes tonight to be fair, but hasn't yet undone all the good work he's done the last month.

Spargo looking great two weeks in a row

Any danger of Salem making contact? Looks scared in every contest. Won't tackle.

Spot on. Weak as urine.

The umpires are loving us for a change!!

Compare the pair.

Sidebottom and Clarry - same number of kicks. Clarry going at 88%, Sidebottom 38% ?

Nah no concerns about Lever. He’s now playing that intercept role we recruited him for quite well. A few brain farts don’t negate that.

Ok frees to even up 2nd half....

Coll defence avg 52pts a game. We're 64pts at half time

Big half coming up for our mids. I know Preuss is losing in the ruck, but no more excuses. Time to stand up. We have more than enough quality players in there to match it with them, even with a losing ruck.

rain  to hit in around 15 mins

It's a small storm with a heavy central cell. Could miss the Gabba but it will make it slippery

Playing good footy. We need to wrap em up nicely. To lose from 32 up at 1/2 time would be a disgrace.

Last mark he held was in german bank

The contest is closer than the half time score suggests. The Melbourne way would be to come out and think the result will look after itself. Need to get the first couple and push on, best way to to blunt their clearances a touch and control the ball a bit more. Great first halves by Oliver.Langdon and Spargo in particular.  Reset. Go again

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.

Salem proved to be a valuable contributor as a reliable and solid one-on-one medium-sized defender in what was undoubtedly his most impressive season since the premiership year. He remains a highly capable rebounding option for the Demons as he approaches his 200th game at the club.

Following an injury-interrupted start to the season, McVee struggled to maintain the standard he established in 2025 as he pursued an expanded role within the team structure. He remained a firm fan favourite and the club had hoped to negotiate a new contract with the former rookie selection from Western Australia, whose partner, Lily Johnson, plays for Melbourne's AFLW side. Those hopes were dashed when he expressed his desire to return to his home state and play for Fremantle. Like all players who have worn the red and blue and are leaving this year, we wish him well in the future.
