Apparently the Cats are targeting Viney, or Crouch, during free agency.

There are no specific quotes as such, just some speculation that they are keen on him and that, if he were to go, he would command around 650k a season which would likely trigger a first round compo pick for us.

The article does go on to say that we are still talking to Viney about a new contract and that we could still easily lock him away to a new deal in the next month or so.

Paging Ethan the Trade Whispering Breaker

Geelong have asked the question, if Viney signs a contract he will end up there. #ETthetradebreaker.

Seems obvious. It is a Geelong set play. They have seen Jack at his best against their three stars, especially in 2018.

It is another tragedy. Jack may be tempted and some fans will be for it. All because we have not had adaquete coaching or team structures to individually improve Jacks game or help him achieve team success.

in general I’m getting to the point where I will have no favourite players or invest time into certain players as they will move when they want regardless of their current contract status.

It’s just a business now more so than ever before and supporting the club rather than individual players along with the club seems to be the way to go then that way u won’t be as disappointed when a player leaves.

This is a sad reality for me.

Even if the contract he signs is with us?

This season is just crazy :P

Well put half.

You need a game plan that suits your list and works to their strengths. Unfortunately I don’t see any of that currently and that’s the problem.

And you kinda think he would be organised into a strict role at the Cats to bring about individual and team success. Added to that Geelong play an exciting brand of footy.

If he leaves its on the coaches and its another in a long line of players leaving that are disgruntled with the lack of success and professionalism at the club. Its really disappointing that we have such good players and they cant get it to work. i love Jack Viney. I love his competitiveness, his determination his toughness.. the club needs more of it not less. People are obsessed with Angus Brayshaw, he has teh entire footy world bluffed, hasnt strung 2 decent games together since 2018,  he is lazy, one way, disinterested and a smart alec. i know which one i would want to go.

All of the above can be true but Gus is still more talented...!

I have had a funny feeling since the day he said he and his brothers go to Sandy oval and do 100x100 runs on Christmas morning. Massively competitive within the family unit. The running bit just seemed odd and gee it must have been at a slow pace.

Maybe he is,  he has better skills, but Talent is only good if you use it.. attitude is really important IMO.

Should get a Buddhist monk in the guts then

fortunately he's restricted so if the offer isn't enough to get us back into the first round they'll have to trade for him; they have three first round picks i'll take two kthxbye

i would expect even if the cats do make an offer for him we'd match and force a trade

it would be very sad to see him go

It would be sad to see him go, but hypothetically, if we got a first round pick that we used to draft a Max/Ben King forward type, I could live with that.

Would fair dinkum lose my merde with the club.

Has bled for the club, change Goodwin before this guy. My rage would be huge.

how do u know he wouldn’t choose to stay if goody remained? My own impression was that they had a strong connection,

IF , and it’s a big if, he wanted out because of his relationship w goody then that’s a major factor and may change my current stand that i want goody to remain. but i do need to first know more about why jack hasn’t yet re signed.

The 26-year-old would command a deal worth over $650,000 per year, which could trigger a first-round compensation pick.

That in itself in a year we don't have any/many high draft picks.  Both parties would seriously need to consider, both MFC and Viney.

hmmm.... where in the first round?

Ive seen Jack and his partner down at Ocean Grove a few times, smashing some burgers and chips at one of the local eateries. (2016-2019)

Could be a good fit for Viney.

Viney like many of the players at the club is someone who I feel has attributes that could make him a great player for us but is either not being used well or not being developed well.

There’s this constant discussion of whether a midfield of Oliver, Brayshaw, and Viney can exist. I think it can if instructed and coached well.

Given Jack’s history with his dad, and everything he’s gone through at the club himself it would be tough seeing him in any other colours. Especially seeing him at the cats! ?

If I was jack I would go to the cats to.

Would be nice to experience a good match day coach and tactician which he hasn’t had since Roos left.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
