I’ve spent the last 40 years desperately hoping we might get that elusive premiership.

Every instinct in me as a sportsman and competitor wants Melbourne to win at all costs but as a supporter i’m worried we will win.

I don’t want our first premiership in nearly 70 years having an * next to it.

Do we even want to win it this year?

I want to see just one in my lifetime. Plenty of others have an asterisk next to them e.g. West Coast drugs 2006.
I don’t care. Just [censored] win!

I could think about this for 1,000 years and still not come up with a reason to "not want" to win the flag.

Can't even believe someone asked the question.

The only thing that would kill the enjoyment is if no crowd was there to cheer them on.

If we dont win it someone else will.. and that someone could be Essendon, Collingwood etc etc.   You think them or their supporters will give a [censored] about an 'asterisk'?

Hell yes I want to win it.

I am the most positive dees supporter. I just worry the AFL will send it to a chook raffle and dees win by default.

The question reframed to.me is: Do you want an asterix next to our name at 18th position with no games played due to forfeiture while the rest of the clubs play 17 and contend.

Nope. Lets win the Corona Cup this year and proudly sit it next to the Panasonic Cup.

There’s an argument that this will be the toughest season ever in which to win the Flag.

So yep, in short - absolutely!

Lol crazy question. A win with an asterix [censored] all over adding another year to our drought.

I don't really understand the question.

If there's a premiership to win then I want us to win it. Premierships aren't weighted the one won by Fitzroy in 1916 in a 4 team comp when they finished last is worth the same as every other flag.

I’d rather win one with a * next to it then not win one in the next however many years

Someone said no ??

Must be a very young Dees supporter to not want a premiership.

I will happily take it. Be great for membership and sponsors in 2021, just when we are looking to recover all the money we lost this year.

If there’s a premiership there to win at the end of all this then I’d like us to win it.

I don’t expect the Blues or Pies or Bombers would be to worries if they won it this season.

I would love to win it any season.

Conditions are the same for every club. There's no head start for the Demons just coz we're in a premiership drought.

(Although the Suns will get an advantage as they're already used to playing in front of nobody)

To me the playing every other team once means that asterisk is more of a positive than the flag the Tigers won in 2017 which could have an asterisk next to it from having an easy draw and no one really devalues the their 2017 premiership.

Biggest beef for me is this reducing the time of games thing, to me that has the potential to quite drastically shift the ballance of the game due to the lists teams had built around a the normal game duration.  Just watch the AFL try to make shorter games the new normal after this season.

Adelaide 2018*

Home and away finish 5th

Get pumped by the MFC by 50 points in the first week of finals and then get an armchair ride through to the GF and beat Norf who we had to play the week before under lights heavily favoring Norf.

Considering all clubs are expected to take a finacial hit due to COVID, winning the premiership would put us in the best position financially available in the circumstances for moving forward.  I don't even want to think what it could look like if we have another 2019.

1998*

* are only put there by opposition supporters. Except where cheating the cap, or what the Astros did.

There’s been a few sports ( NHL, NBA) over the years that have had reduced seasons mainly due to pay disputes. There’s no * next to their name in the Champions column and fans still celebrated the team’s success like crazy.

To some the gloss might be taken out a tad due to no fans in stadiums but if we get to the stage where fans are permitted back in for the GF all tickets should go to the members of clubs and not the corporates. Would be a nice touch to acknowledge the supporters for sticking with their clubs through this. Nice to dream.

Who says there will be an asterisk?

With 17 rounds, not playing lower-ranked teams twice, shorter games, closer fixture and all the other associated isolation issues for team performance and health, it will be a hard premiership to win.

Looking forward to Sunday when there is no crowd noise at the Boo Factory.  Maybe we'll get a better ride from the umpires than usual.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
