Deeoldfart 8,205 Posted February 14, 2020 Posted February 14, 2020 Great win girls. Love Sinead Goldrick's hardness and intensity. Second game ever. Plays like AVB. 9 Quote

She's insane at the body. Needs to learn to control it but gee whiz. And I felt bad for her with the 50 she gave. Clearly didn't know and was trying to give the ball to the ump. 2 Quote

Again Hore was a great contributor and Newman played a great game. Paxman is a class above all others and Daisy was fantastic. Cunningham and Zanker had quiet ones so it was good to see others like Scott contribute on the forward line. I hope the men can gain some of the intensity and desire that the girls show. That's just uncalled for. The desire statement in particular. If you think our male players are squibbing it, then I think either you are not paying attention or you are a troll . Alternatively you may have escaped Jim Henson's clutches. Quote
Wrecker45 3,381 Posted February 14, 2020 Posted February 14, 2020 Love the centre bounces our ruckwomen just thumps it forwards and hanks takes out any opposition that touches the ball. Gawn and Viney need to watch and replicate this play. 2 Quote
Paulo 285 Posted February 14, 2020 Posted February 14, 2020 really feel for Ainslie kemp if she has done another acl, hope we can have a better luck on the injuries front and not lose any more players. 3 2 Quote

darkhorse72 1,949 Posted February 14, 2020 Posted February 14, 2020 A very enjoyable game to watch from start to finish. Even with the close score it didn't stress me as the team always looked in control. Big 8 point win early in the season. Interesting to see how the team wash up across the two conferences. 2 Quote
Straight Sets Simon 23,113 Posted February 14, 2020 Posted February 14, 2020 We were a class above the Bulldogs all night, you just love to see it. Hopefully next week we get somewhat normal weather to play in. 7 Quote
Mdemonski3 174 Posted February 14, 2020 Posted February 14, 2020 Really enjoyed watching last night. Dees girls hard at it and skills superior in slippery conditions. looking good this year 2 Quote
FarNorthernD 5,863 Posted February 14, 2020 Posted February 14, 2020 Daisy playing with and organising the backs could end up being an inspired move. The Luke Hodge of the AFLW. 9 Quote

A real goer. 2 Quote
Demonstone 23,662 Posted February 14, 2020 Posted February 14, 2020 Jon Pierik in The Age on Daisy Pearce ... Her eight touches to half-time all found an opponent. By "opponent", I assume he means "teammate". 2 1 4 Quote
Whispering_Jack 31,382 Posted February 14, 2020 Posted February 14, 2020 I read somewhere before the season that we had a tough start to the season with two games against premiership candidates in North and the Bulldogs. A long way to go and we are in a very tough conference but so far, so good. 6 Quote
Supermercado 2,806 Posted February 14, 2020 Posted February 14, 2020 Daisy and Paxman are superb. If we don't have a genuine tilt at a flag before they go there should be an inquest. 4 1 Quote
Brownie 6,090 Posted February 14, 2020 Posted February 14, 2020 I think that was the best I've seen this team play. Great intensity at the contest and controlled the ball really well in the conditions. 6 Quote

Some of Shelley Scott’s and Kate Hore’s marking would have been considered good on a dry day let alone in the pouring rain. A lot of smart plays in general too with tapping the ball over the back and trying to keep it moving our way. Played the conditions perfectly. It’s also nice coming on this AFLW match day thread and not have the “skill level isn’t as good as the men’s comp” crowd to contend with. Edited February 14, 2020 by FarNorthernD 9 1 Quote
Dee Zephyr 19,335 Posted February 15, 2020 Posted February 15, 2020 It’s only a couple of games in but there are signs that this team might’ve just clicked. Still a few good players missing too. The ball handling was better than last week as strange as that might sound, they seem to be on the same page and the hunting in packs was a great sight. Paxman is reliable as you can get but you still can’t help being impressed with her composure. Sidestepping by opponents in the wet and dinky little kicks around the corner landing on teammates chests. Great to start the weekend with any Dees’ win I say. 3 Quote
Supermercado 2,806 Posted February 15, 2020 Posted February 15, 2020 I was pessimistic before last week because going 0-2 would have put us in a huge hole, but after winning these two games and having Lauren Pearce and Lily Mithen to come back in the only thing that concerns me is the lack of an accurate forward target. Difficult conditions the last two weeks but Cunningham has barely fired a shot and Shelley Scott's set shots ruin her excellent work to get to the ball in the first place. Need to follow on from last night and kick goals from a variety of sources. 3 Quote
In Harmes Way 7,912 Posted February 15, 2020 Posted February 15, 2020 Thought the ladies did us proud. Not a negative comment at all on DL - maybe a first? Give the Roving Lily mic in the season proper to Lily - she's a hoot. Had a chuckle when Tegan Cunningham said it was the first time she'd played in the wet. Comments like this just add further kudos to the team effort. Go La-dees. 2 Quote
Little Goffy 15,000 Posted February 15, 2020 Posted February 15, 2020 It goes without saying that Daisy is the true champion of the league she helped create. Elise O'Dea will just become unstoppable as the benefits of professional level conditioning and preparation have their effect. I do feel a little sad that O'Dea couldn't get any of that, say, ten years ago. But my gut says she'll be around for a while yet to reap the benefits. May even play out the later years of her career as a difficult forward. But what I can't shake is the regular feeling that Karen Paxman is just that much more poised and fluent than most of what goes on around her. That collect and snap for goal sums it up - with the general skill levels still needing years to consolidate it could well have gone astray whether with finding the handle on it or get it cleanly to boot in a rush. But with Paxman, I never really doubted her kick would go through and I don't think she did either. I really enjoy the women's game because it's in red and blue, it has real meaning away from the grounds, and the variability of individual quality means the better players do stand out. But what I'm really, really looking forward to is AFLW in about 2025. We'll start to see players who were the first to really believe that AFL could be their path, back when they were 15 or 13. Girls who would have been able to say to trainers and friends and that uncle who played seven games for the Bears or whatever, "Hey, I want to be good at this, genuinely good. How about we head to the park and work on my ball drop/marking/etc." And as of now, compared to even five years ago, they're about a hundred times more likely to get a "Yeah, sure." I wholly expect Daisy to guide us to a premiership or two as a player and then do a few years of development before returning for a full Norm Smith and coaching us to another half dozen. 7 Quote
