I'll quickly put in a disclaimer at the start to say I'm not implying we should go for him, just more opening it up as something the club may consider.

Daniel Menzel is currently out of contract with the Swans as they try to balance things out for the impending Daniher trade.

I personally would be a probable no, but what are the chances the club looks at him given we could probably get him for cheap?

The position of a small forward has changed from the type of player he is. Now, small forwards also need to be high pressure players, as well as good crumbing forwards. He has ability, but lacks intensity to chase, tackle, and put pressure on the defense. There are plenty of players with lesser ability than him that get games because they're good pressure players first. It's a no from me.

I don't think there is a player I want less in this trade period than him.

To me he is everything we don't need going forward.

You want players who actually add tackling pressure and intensity.  This bloke is the complete opposite and one of the worst going around in terms of defensive pressure.

Would’ve prefered Jamie Elliott.

I’d also offer Jeffy a rookie contract over Menzel every day of the week.

No from me, but I can't see why we can't add Ben Ronke from the Swans. Then add Dan Butler and Jacob Townsend. It doesn't sound like we are trying very hard at all for much this trade period, definitely needs smalls and even a KPF.

Madness.

Big no. Still get a good laugh out of remembering him hitting the post from 5m out against us in the Elimination Final. Absolute spud

Townsend and Butler are rotting away in the magoo's, be bold Dees and make a play for them.

We refuse to get quality small men that can tackle and have pace, but we will retain list cloggers such as Stretch,JKH, Wagner bros, Omac etc.

He's an upgrade on ANB and a few others though.

  • REPORT: Adelaide

The atmosphere at the Melbourne Football Club at the beginning of the season was aspirational following an injury-plagued year in 2024. Coach Simon Goodwin had lofty expectations with the return of key players, the anticipated improvement from a maturing group with a few years of experience under their belts, and some exceptional young talent also joining the ranks. All of that went by the wayside as the team failed to click into action early on. It rallied briefly with a new strategy but has fallen again with five more  consecutive defeats.

  • CASEY: Coburg

The Casey Demons returned to their home ground which was once a graveyard for opposing teams but they managed to gift the four points on offer to Coburg with yet another of their trademark displays of inaccuracy in front of goals and some undisciplined football that earned the displeasure of the umpires late in the game. The home team was welcomed by a small crowd at Casey Fields and looked right at home as it dominated the first three quarters and led for all bar the last five minutes of the game. In the end, they came away with nothing, despite winning everywhere but on the scoreboard and the free kick count.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 17 vs Adelaide

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.
