The less I say on this the better, but thank you for your commitment to our club, Mister Jones.

Golly, how generous of you.

Thanks for your service as captain, Nathan.

Right call. He’s given great service and gave it his all, but time to concentrate on his game, adding some flexibility and being a contributor in the best 22.

Gawn and Viney will be co-captains next year. I’m almost certain.

Well done Nathan.  Has been a great servant of the club.

So who'll be first with a derogatory comment about Jones and/or the club?  Sorry Kids?  Demonsone?  SWYL?

Thank you Nathan.

Was at the helm during some dark years. Can't have been an easy task.

Hopefully he can look back at his time as captain with some fondness.

“If I can help foster that and grow that, I think that’s the best thing I can do for the club.”

“Really for me it’s about just getting back to just loving the game and loving the journey I’m on - experiencing the joy in footy again with my mates.

All power to you on that part Mr Jones.  A great clubman and probably a good call for all, in the best interests of club & team mates.  Let's hope 2020 brings a year in complete contrast to this one for his & everyone's sake involved.

Thank you Nathan for your service to the club as captain, most of it through trying times. I hope this year free from the burden you play well and clock up the necessary games to achieve the 300 mark.

Champion of the club and one man who stood up when all around him fell.

Focus on getting his body right and getting the most out of himself next year.

The role may not have suited him perfectly, but he was by far the best of a sorry bunch when he was given the role.

However, he gave everything he had to it and to the club, and I can never fault him for that.  Good on him for also recognising that it is time for him to step aside as captain.

Thanks for everything, Jonesy.  Hopefully this move will also ensure you have a good season for us in 2020 without having to worry as much about that aspect of your game.

Why did someone bump this thread from last year?

Has been a magnificent, loyal servant of the club through its darkest days. Could have gone elsewhere for success, and maybe more coin, but stuck with us, and captained when it would have been an utter embarrassment. Wasnt blessed with the highest level of skill, but went some way towards making up for it with his incredible attitude. Kept at it, and kept at it, when many lesser leader would have just given up. Didnt win many games off his own boot, but not many players could have done that considering the lack of help he had for years.

Stood down when the time was right and deserves nothing but praise for his decision.

Onya Jonesy.

*Raises glass

Let's just let him play the best he can without expectations of any number of games or pressure and see what happens after he was given another year.

Poor captain in my opinion, a good  battler with limited skills but will always apprecciate his endeavour.

Should not ever be gifted games if he doesn't earn his place then  too bad move on!

Jack Viney can join him as well.

Well Done to Jonesy btw, have always admired his determination and loyalty in putting his hand up to lead this club.

Ive been critical of him, but only of late, he helped me have some pride in a team that was, lets be honest, embarrassing to support. His fight, his grit and his pride was a beacon and he will hold a special place in teh teams history.

Hope he does a Travis Boak and finds a new lease on life without the burden of captaincy.

Excellent beginning of the evening

Keep the changes rolling through....

Could have so easily left, but stuck fat with us when we were at out lowest ebb and has played an enormous role in leading us (somewhat) out of obscurity. Think he has at least a few more years left in him and will be better off without the burden of captaincy. A great clubman who we are forever endebted to for leading our rabble for many years. Onto the era of Maxy.

Well done Jonesy in your dedication to the club in some dark times.

Now you can enjoy the remainder of your career and play with some freedom.

...I start Youtubing how to tie a hangman's noose.

Hopefully Viney will walk the plank as well.

Just So exciting

Schwab will be drunk in Swan Street somewhere. His true Colours have nothing to do with us

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
