I knew a lot of posters (including astute ones) would hate this post, but I just reckon we should try to get him back.

There’s a lot of discussion about getting other clubs’ off cuts - so why not put Watts into the mix. He’s better than most of them.

I expect he’d be pretty cheap - and I’ve always thought he’d be more valuable to us than any other club.

As an aside, I know many here disagree with this and I respect that.

I agree with you and I don't respect those who don't...

It would send a clear message that there is no clear message. So, being a huge fan of obfuscation myself, I’m all for it!

I don't know if you're trolling or not Ron, but I'd be thrilled if he came back to us.  He is strong everywhere that we are weak.  His kicking is as good as any in the league and most importantly he was the number one player in the league for retaining possession with inside 50 passes.  He would love playing off HB as the spare tall/intercept marker alongside Lever and May.  It's his best position and we saw this year how well he plays it.

As for his contested work.  He went 1-3 against Weed, TMac and The Bull in a marking contest and absolutely destroyed them.  He's not a contested beast, but he does ok.

I never understood the amount of angst and invective directed at Jack Watts. When I sat at the football I would hear supporters pick him out for things he did or did not do.What about some of the other players? I used to think. Were they doing so much better? Yes, expectations were high for a number one pick, but he was never going to live up to the unreachable standards everyone expected of him.

I ask everyone to consider this- today there was a service for a lovable, funny guy, who seemed to have not a care in the world, from outward appearances. But he was open about what he suffered from. We do not know how some people really are, just by seeing them from a distance, and the front they put on for the world. I seem to remember Jack was interviewed on the field after a game this year and he alluded to the fact he was in a dark place at times from all the attention and pressure of being the number one pick. We don't know how low he was in these moments.

We should be mindful of the fact our criticism of people can be damaging sometimes. I well remember the article in a English music paper which disparaged Karen Carpenter for wearing a white dress which made her hips look big. I found out years later this caused her anorexia and she died too young from the effects.

We can all take better care of each other.

Yes, have Watts back. Why not? Life is too short for grudges over football.

This is like reminiscing about the ex girlfriend.  Let it go.  Jack wants to move on.  MFC needs to move on

MFC has moved on, so has most of the fan base, it's only some of the supporters who haven't.

I for one don't want him back. I never really understood my father's grievances with him until his last few years at the club. He has flashes of brilliance, but they're intermittent by vast plays of nothing.

Love your work Ron. You knew you’d cop a whack for this one and you did it anyway. Kudos.

The idea doesn’t make me want to punch kittens like it does others, but there was a definite statement made in letting Watts go so an about face is hard to envisage. Will never happen while Goodwin is coach.

I only see it possibly happening at the very end of his career and under a new coach but still highly unlikely.

Quality pot stirring though.

Thanks P-man - I generally like to think I put my head over the ball.

Plainly, it doesn’t always translate into an effective possession though.

I agree that Goodwin wouldn’t entertain this trade for a single second.

He will always be fondly remembered to me for this. Ran right past us, will never forget the look on my boy's face when he nailed this.....

I also love watching the other videos of this that have different commentary over the top.  Even though he's not with the club anymore, watching this still puts a massive smile on my face.

I’d take him back.

How many games did we lose on account of putrid inside 50 entires this year?

Watts would be the only bloke at this club that could consistently deliver an inside 50 competently.

You say this now, then he squibs a contest or doesn't do enough for a few games and you're whacking the club for bringing him back.  Regular as clockwork.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
