Gave me a little bit of hope. Among other things, he backs in Jones and Goodwin.

"As bad as the Demons have been this year, there are still positives in the way they've played. Rarely have they been blown away. Often their midfield dominance simply hasn't been converted.

Already there's been several off-field changes that should freshen things up, whether it be the departure of Brendan McCartney or strategy guru Craig Jennings.

This year's struggles should expose some of the shortcomings that might have been swept under the carpet last year. Sometimes the internal analysis and self-assessment that comes with a poor season can quickly turn what were negatives into positives."

It's not all doom and gloom: Demons can make finals in 2020

Best article I've read. Absolutely no guarantees but the hyperbole that has been spoken and written is generally is laughable.

Absolutely. I can’t actually see how we could lose a game next year. Goodwin is god

Sense of humour shown by Duck in his last line. Good read.

From what I've seen of Carey in the media, he's pretty quick to distance himself from "new school" football and training methods, so I'm actually a bit surprised that he puts as much stock in the pre-season as he does.

there is no place on this forum for rubbish articles like this one.

what the hell would Carey know versus the posters on this site

LOL!

They were in business together The Duck and Goody. Might still be, one mate looking after the other.

You helped me in a tough period of my life with the North Melbourne saga, I'll help you out in your time of need this year.

Decent article not a masterpiece by any stretch of the imagination.

With that well reasoned perspective you could be captain of the henny penny collective - whose contributions to this thread i eagerly await.

You would then be Captain spalding (most oldies on this site who were out and about in Melbourne pubs in the 80s and 90s will get this reference)

(ps i know you were joking)

not sure how many teams have gone from 4th to 17th in one season and then bounced back to finals the following year and, perhaps its the MFCSS but I can't see how we will play finals next year.

I tend to agree with him.

Hoping for a a Geelong 2006-07 or Tigers 2016-17 turnaround this off season.

Carey did all his best work in the off season.

Yep, he was hopeless in the season proper, especially in finals.

Good article. Injuries and players out of form have exposed deficiencies in our game plan - but this is absolutely fixable, and IMO is not as dire as many here characterise it to be.

His mate David King was a believer too.

Look it’s a nice article, but it’s very general

and when did a footy Journo lose a job from being wrong?

This sounds like a bit of buttering up and I wonder if Duck's looking to get a gig for the P/T Forward Craft coach role.

And we do need to get the best in the business.

That's why we need  to seek out David Schwarz

Light weight analysis. His number one reason is we will have an easy draw and his second is a top ten pick will have an immediate impact. Carey sniffing the breeze.

And so he [censored] well should back us in. To all the [censored] on here who bemoan how bad we have been this season, get over yourselves and get back on board. Dees!

I think the sentiment has been more about how bad we have been for 55, yes 55 years.

Don't know that Carey is a 'believer'. He says that there is no reason that we cannot bounce back next year. He does not say that we will bounce back next year.

Personally, I think we will make the finals next year but how deep we progress will depend on injuries and fitness of the list.

We did it or similiar in the 98  99 2000 period.

Judd is also a finals believer on the dees in 2020.

We’re back! That was fun. The Mighty Dees’ Season 10 campaign is off toa flying start with a commanding 48-point winover the Western Bulldogs, retaining the Hampson-Hardeman Cup in style. After a hard-fought first half in slippery conditions, the Dees came out in the second half and showcased their trademark superior class, piling on four goals in the third termand never looked back.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
