My Brother in Law Richmond member rings me up half and hour ago as asks if I am going? Nup I said. Good he says, I'll come over and watch on your 80 inch 4 k T.V and have a few beers!!

I think I'll leave him alone and watch the cricket down the other end of the house!!?

As you say.... some punishments are best borne alone.

A quiet reflection. Just imagine if we were actually contending this year and the disaster that has been 2019 did not occur! Where would your mindset be in preparing for what looked on paper to be a huge “3 Weeks At The G - Richmond, Collingwood and Sydney”? Are you thinking Gil and his clowns have handed us the draw from hell leading into the finals, or are you pining for a return to those fantastic two weeks we had in September last and look to embracing 3 blockbusters in a row! The mind certainly does funny things!!

I don’t have a strong mindset about tonight. (My God, I”m sounding like the coach)  I’ll drift in later, leaving the family in the warmth of house and I am sure I will return home full of disappointed learnings...(there I go again!).

Go Dees.

What's the chances we win our last 4 and hit preseason up and about?

Tonight is one of those games where you get an insight into who truly loves the jumper and who is going through the motions.

I was at the '186 game'. I'll be there tonight. I'm expecting deja vu all over again.

PS tautology intentional.

I will be having more fun at work wiping faeces off aggressive, demented residents than any Dees supporters will have at the "G".

Good luck to those who choose to go.

I had a dream we won tonight. Does this mean I am a passionate rusted on supporter or just plain out of touch with reality?

More probable you went to bed drunk

Mine is the ridiculous nature of a Melbourne supporter. i think we will go ok. Not saying we will win but an honourable MFC loss. Resume normal transmission.

Sounds like you'll also be going through the motions, ding.

There’s a great doco on TV tonight about the mating ritual of the dung beetle. Two shaftings on at the same time. Decisions, decisions........

Dung beetles are amazing.

Did you know that they were carefully selected and introduced to Australia under a several-years-long CSIRO program?

They store cattle dung under the ground faster than the life-cycle of flies, meaning that the fly larvae don't have time to hatch and develop.

This has greatly increased the productivity of cattle and dairy farms because, literally, there is significantly more actual grass not covered in dung. It was a real problem, measured in double-figure percentages of total land in many regions.

Also, any time you are eating outside or just doing anything at all outside, take the number of flies you are being annoyed by and multiply it by at least 5. That is what you'd be dealing with if not for the intellectual might of some very humble dung-beetle researchers at the CSIRO! It is not a coincidence that Australia's outdoor cafes and the like only really took off after the dung beetle program was implemented.

Anyway, I don't actually know much about dung beetle mating. I think it involves a fair amount of pushing and shoving with hind legs. Don't tell AFLHQ or they'd introduce free kicks for in the back, and we'd all be eating inside again within a year.

We are all going to support the boys, and freeze our buts off.

Just reading the 2nd page of comments on this thread, with the exception of @america de cali and perhaps @FireInTheBelly (not exactly sure of his stance), what a bunch of sadsacks we have become on this forum.

What would happen if we actually won tonight?

CARN THE DEMONS!!!

I'm not sure either

Heading into the MFC Chairman’s function. Be interesting to gauge the mood of the high & mighty on where we’re at.

Be interesting to hear what our president's voice sounds like. But also would be interesting to hear what he has to say.

Don't eat  the terrine

Will report back if I hear anything new, though think that’s highly unlikely.

We could go close tonight if we tackle, defend hard and play with pride. We won't as we don't and we're looking at a 15+ goal hiding here. Odds on us having a significant number of tackles and winning the count (easiest part of the game and probably the most important to your chances of competing)? Zero chance. Despite having way more posession the Tigers will have way more tackles. It's how our club rolls.

Who gets sacked tonight if Lever is forced to play on one of Riewoldt or Lynch because McDonald is getting towelled up while Hore is running around for Casey?

On the postive, the introduction of dung beetles into Australia gave us outdoor cafés. On the negative, it gave us Gillon McLachlan.

Just need the CSIRO to breed a bigger beetle to handle that much crap!

Only thing we can do is go ultra defensive. Close the corridor up.

Frustrate them and if we are in it in the 3rd then try attacking

The gloom is not all black... Melksham comes in for ANB.. now that’s a big improvement... Preuss comes in for Smith now that’s at least bigger... JKH comes in for Jagner ... now that couldn’t be any worse... and Dunkley comes in for Nev... now that’s younger..

its not black but very grey but I’m gonna watch with my bottle of Chivas... (somebody stole my chillum)... and I reckon we can scrotomise these tiggggers... go Dees

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
