I/C from: Petracca, O. McDonald, Neal-Bullen, Petty, C. Wagner, Lockhart, J. Wagner, Dunkley

IN: Lever, Jetta, Gawn, O. McDonald, C. Wagner, J. Wagner

OUT: Hore (injured), T. McDonald (injured)

No surprises.

Interesting interchange.  Hopefully the final 4 are Petracca, Dunkley, Lockhart and ....

Glad the Big Scary Man gets another gig.

Finally we get our best back 6 on the park!  For the first time it frees Salem or Fritsch to spend the whole game centre/forward.

Backline starting to look good, on paper, very good. Hope the colours dazzle.

Preuss has a big one to deliver at full forward, but probably a good Gawn rotation point and a cuppla goals to both would be nice. The Weed had better produce ... lump in the throat for further comment.

Interchange preferences for me: Petracca, the two Wagners, Dunkley (or Petty).

Don't mind this lineup on paper, but as they say...

Like the combo of Weid and Preuss as the tall forwards, hoping that Weid's mobility and Preuss' lack thereof will mean they don't fly for the same ball too often.

Back 6 is tantalizing, forward line would surely end up having Trac, Dunkley, Lockhart and either ANB or C.Wagner (from the extended bench) running through, as it's not the most creative group of players starting there.

Pretty much sums up our calamitous season that it takes until Rd 16 to get our preferred starting back 6 on the park

Who will be omitted from last week?

Petty, Lockhart, ANB or Dunkley?

Please make it ANB.

Back 6 is great, now we just need a 120 min 6/6/6 rule change so they won't get scored over the back all day.

Our back six is the best we've fielded all year  ......... as good as any in the ALF,  on paper.!  BUT gee they are under-done in terms of match fitness.  Hope they can stay together and build a real sense of cohesion in the back part of  the season, and more particularly into 2020.

Why is Hannah not under scrutiny?

I agree Hannah Gadsby is a bit overrated.

Petracca, Petty, Lockhart and Dunkley for interchange.

Do you guys think this is our best backline we can produce ? When all fit would Marty Hore gets a spot in their with how good he’s playing ? I could see him only replacing Salem or Hibberd with one of them going on to a wing. Thoughts ?

I was thinking more along the lines of this Alf

Hoping to see Petracca, ANB, Dunkkley and Lockhart on the bench (with Petty making way and joining OMac and the Wagners as emergencies).

Just not sure we need May, Frost, Lever and Petty in the side, let alone against the Dogs (and certainly not OMac on top of that).

Seems the right balance against a smaller Dogs team.

Hannah lucky as he isn’t doing much, and over his career seems like one great game, two okay, one bad and two shockers, needs to find some consistency.

It’s a beautiful thing

That is impressive:

-D50 speed yep/attack on opponent (frost)

-skill/D50 pressure (Jetta)

-intercept marking /leadership (lever)

-pure class ... (Salem)

-force/D50  pressure (hibbo)

-spoil/kicks (May)

Let’s just hope the backline gels better than our forward line!!!

The best back line in the AFL does not excite me, the best back line with a non  existent forward line won't win you games, no great team ever had the best back line without a great forward half.

The media focus on the fiery interaction between Max Gawn and Steven May at the end of the game was unfortunate because it took away the gloss from Melbourne’s performance in winning almost everywhere but on the scoreboard in its Kings Birthday clash with Collingwood at the MCG. It was a real battle reminiscent of the good old days when the rivalry between the two clubs was at its height and a fitting contest to celebrate the 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher and his superb work to bring the campaign to raise funds for motor neurone disease awareness to the forefront. Notwithstanding the fact that the Magpies snatched a one point victory from his old club, Daniher would be proud of the fact that his Demons fought tooth and nail to win the keenly contested game in front of 77,761 fans.

The Demons are set to embark on a four-week road trip that takes them across the country, with two games in Adelaide and a clash on the Gold Coast, broken up by a mid-season bye. Next up is a meeting with the inconsistent Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval. Who comes in and who goes out?

  • POSTGAME: Collingwood

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.
