IN: May, Salem, Hore

OUTS: Wagner, Spargo, Oscar

May, Salem and Hore come in and add much needed experience and intercept marking down back along with Salem who will give us much needed drive and composure.

I'm  still in the camp that they won't risk Lever after limited match fitness. In fact i dont think he even trained last week?

Which our season officially over, it is now time to just get games into Weideman. Their were glimpses last night that showed the Weideman of old from last year finals campaign. We need to go into next year knowing that Weideman will be nearing that 50 game mark but also start to build a working relationship with McDonald.

I put Mitch Hannan in the same boat, lets just get him AFL match fit because we have seen what he is capable of and adds such a whole new dimension to our forward line with his speed and tackling pressure.

I know some were anti JKH last night, but i thought for someone in his 2nd game of footy on the back  of 9 weeks off he was qood in patches, he was rusty at times but was also able to lay 6 tackles. In fact he topped our tackle count along with Jack Viney.

Viney out?  Are you being serious here? Did you watch his endeavour and good play last night?

i'm also in the camp that doesn't think lever has enough footy under his belt yet; but, then again, they played hannan and jkh off not much more of a footballing base, so....

IN: May, Salem, Lever, Hore
OUT: Spargo, Stretch, O Mac, J Wagner

B: Hore - May - Lever
HB: Salem - Frost - Hibberd
? Jones - Harmes - Fritsch
HF: Petracca - T Mac - Hunt
F: T Smith - Weideman - Garlett
Foll: Gawn - Oliver - Viney
I/c: Brayshaw - Hannan - JKH - Baker
Emerg: Spargo - Stretch - O Mac - J Wagner

if lever does get left out, j wagner would be the in i'd have for him

Lot of sense in that post but perhaps Garlett out instead of Spargo.

Jeff G on present form is not part of 2020.

I'd also rest Jones for a game before or after the bye.

JKH and Stretch need to be played. Looking forward, one or both are essential depth players for 2020.

Lever definitely needs another run at Casey. His first up game was very rusty and while his first half last week was better it wasn't a full game.

Melksham is due back a week or two after the bye. (Sorry make that 3-4 weeks post bye.)

And then there is Preuss. Hopefully has a decent a game for Casey next week against the Pies. I would have played him in Darwin due to the conditions but his form against Werribee does not command a QB spot.

If i were a betting man, with our history of foot and toe injuries, melksham will be pushing to be fit round 1 2020

Disagree. If Garlett played all year at his current standard he’d bank another 40 goals like he does every season and be our leading goal kicker... again. I’ll take a bloke who hits the scoreboard every week and generates opportunities over a bloke who hits the scoreboard once a month and doesn’t create opportunities.

On form, Spargo is the least effective player in the AFL. I was a fan when he was drafted and last year, but this season he has been beyond pathetic. At least Garlett kicked three goals and set two other goals up last night.

Spargo needs to add more strings to his bow if he’s going to survive and have a career with us because he’s currently a small forward who doesn’t score, doesn’t tackle and doesn’t find ball. He needs to work on his game at VFL level and cannot be carried anymore.

I suspected there would have to be at least one fool suggest Frost be dropped. If Frost were to be dropped, which won’t happen by the way, there would never have been a player dropped previously that has come off such a solid bank of games. Last night he soundly beat Tex Walker, a 400 career goal kicker, and you want him dropped. WTF.

Ha yeah Tex has in great form hasn’t he? Been like a mannequin all season. He should be dropped himself.

Frost has upside but still has regular brain fades. My in and outs were based on not having too many talls down back. If frost stays in you’d have to drop hore who is a great mark and been very solid

so you would play lever May Hore frost and Hibbo together? (If all fit)

cheers for the insult too. classy.

Frost has been excellent all year in a Blitzkrieged Backline. In fact I reckon he will be top 6 in the B&F !

I agree...  one more  'full game'  with Casey,  before coming back.

Get along to Casey where we play the Pies on Sunday. Good chance of a win and the bacon and egg rolls are wonderful. :)

Lol sounds good, even egg and bacon rolls would be way more satisfying that what Goodwin and co are producing.

Out Pert,Taylor,Rawlings,Goodwin,Wagners,Jones,Lewis,JKH and Mission for starters.

Out Oscar and Spargo. The rest don't matter.

In Salem and Hore. The rest don't matter.

Do you reckon we would have heard from the sainted PJ if he was still around? We miss him as much as anyone...

Oscar has to be dropped.  Pies will be licking their lips at the prospect of giving us a bath.  Those who bother to turn up will be for NDs cause.  Why else would you go.

Jeffy has kicked 7 goals in the last 3 games cannot see anyone else doing that. He stays till the end of the season. If he finishes well.. He gets another Gig.

Oscar Baker is the best recruit we have had in a long time outside the high picks. Looks all the world like a 200 gamer.

As most know I have not been a fan of the Weid however I thought last night was his second best game other than for that crap shot for goal he could have been the hero of the night. It should have been well over by then but such is the life of a Dees supporter. Back to the Weid, I watched his game against Williamstown and thought that day he actually looked like a AFL player playing at VFL level. I am hoping he can have a good second half of the year and go on from there because he is right now the only KPF we have of any worth.

Agree re Garlett. Hard to know how to judge that game. he did kick 3 but critical errors prob coast 3 more. He stays for now.

But too early to dump JKH he wasnt our worst. Id give a Hannon a week off instead as he clearly wasnt ready. Preuss played a shocker on the weekend so I wouldnt be picking him either.

Ins May, lever, Salem, Neal-Bullen, Hore

Outs OSCAR!, Tmac, Wagner, Spargo, Hannon

The VFL write up on the AFL web site said he dominated and had 40 something hit outs???

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?
