Why get Preuss to the club.

Would be less painful banging my head against a brick wall than trying to figure out why they haven’t selected Preuss.

FMD.

Seems like he’s just our Jake Spencer replacement.

He is way better than Spencer.

Gives us something different and provides valuable support for Maxy.

But nah let’s run a Maxy into the ground and when he injures himself then we can bring Preuss in. Bloody stupid. Prevention is better than the cure imo.

Where's the evidence that that is occurring?

Mon ami- instead of bluster, try and think about the valid reasons for this particular weekend why Preuss has not got a call up?

I can start you off if you like...

Can someone explain why Preuss isn't back in???

I reckon because of the weather on sunday. It's meant to be raining so we could be to tall. He'd be no good in the wet. But I would like to see Gawn get some back up against Mumford.

I had Preuss in as a certainty to combat Mumford.  Hmmm when would you play both Preuss and Gawn.

Maybe against Carlton, is the only time I can see that he is not a liability at the moment.

Look I was another that had Preuss coming in after two weeks on the road being the sole ruckman and a particularly big game last week. I would've also liked to see him come in as Mumford is known for his physicality and Preuss would be more than able to give that back to him, but that said Max is in red hot form right now and does play his best footy when he's the only ruckman.

It also gives us the option of more pace in the side. But should Smith be a late withdrawal it should definitely be Preuss that comes in for him.

Wagner in for ANB I'm not exactly jumping for joy about, Nibbler hasn't been doing great but are we going to get much different from Wagner. He's looked very VFL to me.

For those of you crying out for Preuss, what specifically did you like about his game at Casey?  Which parts of his second half inspired you?  Honestly, when he puts together 4 quarters, does not give away lazy frees late in the game, and does more around the ground, then he will easily push for a spot.  If it also going to be freezing and raining, then our gamestyle will be chaos ball into 50.  If anything, we will flood back (AKA Hawks) and deny them room and possession, and win it in the contest.  Expect overlap run and over the back goals, or slogs from contested ball.

People banging up on about Preuss need to get over it.  Maxy has been flying in the last few weeks and there is no need to change anything.  People banging on that he needs support are kidding.  It’s 9 weeks into a footy season and they have a bye in a couple of weeks.

The other consideration is that it will be pissing down on Sunday and Preuss is no good once the ball hits the deck

I'm coming from a different angle

Preuss as a forward target upsets the opposition defence, supporting Max is a bonus

Need the big lug to draw attention away from TMac and allow mid sized forwards to roam. Also lets small forwards feed off

While Tim Smith has been ok at the contest he just doesn't quite give same presence for me

Some discussion may be around Preuss, but at Casey last week he started strong, but after half time was a liability. He gave away 3 goals from stupid frees, and was unsighted around the ground.  Could not promote him on this effort.

I heard he was benched during the Casey game,  and copped a public spray from the Coach.   Then was sent into the forwardline.

Was he sulking, from not playing in Perth ?

Bombing the ball means lack of connection . We would get more  results by moving the ball into F50 with a bit of precision, rather than hoping someone will take a couple of contested pack marks.

Totally agree, but we haven't done that all year and are not looking likely to fix that any time soon. So given that, our next best option is to have someone like Pruess in a position to capitalize on the current method of delivery.

Yep and just another ERROR by our as usual "Dont get it right" selection commitee!

As Mike Williamson would say..

"Jack Hill the Blind Miner would see that one"

How utterly typical MFC!

At the moment it’s looking like rain either late into the game or after the game.

I think they are anticipating rain. Wouldn’t surprise me that Pruess is a late in if it becomes dry

Let's get this right. If in doubt about the weather, check Jane Bunn. She is never wrong about the weather, though she's a Saints fan, so that's a concern.

Wasn't he the traveling emergency, and flew back from Perth overnight to play for Casey. He might've been like me and gone all Mr Crankypants.

Need to stop Jeremy Cameron somehow. Frost is the logical choice, Cameron can tear a game apart pretty quickly though

Agree. If we can’t stop Cameron, it could get ugly.  Frost is the only one quick enough.  But I’ll be nervous every time!!

This post represents everything wrong with the faux selection committee on Demonland. Saying “let’s see how this plays out”, immediately *after* drawing a (negative) conclusion.

By the way I’m assuming letting see how it plays out involves crowing about it if we lose and a big apologetic sob story about how you were wrong if we win.

If Preussy played we would have won by even more.

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
