Surprise surprise.

gablett gets off.  It was a blatant attack on the player, he left the ground, made contact with both arms to the head.

the system is wretched and officially broken.  One rule for the favourites, one rule for us.

Not really. Was deemed careless rather than intentional. Gets off because no priors, that gets him across the line. Theres not a final next week or brownlow in contention.

System is flawed tho..

No surprises for me. Surprised it even made it this far. (Considering who the player was).

He's a protected species by the tribunal where anyone else would have got 1 week, the AFL made the head knocks unacceptable no matter how hard the elbow to the region behind the ear the scull is much thinner and the player could have suffered a lot of damage.

Well, one can only draw the conclusion that the head is sacrosanct. ANY contact with the head will get you weeks.

The AFL have made it clear they are determined to rub this out of the game. They are uncompromising on this. No excuses, no exceptions.

You must be joking. No way that deserved a week. One hand hit the face then a forearm.  Momentum took him fwd. free kick maybe a fine that’s it.

Do not smite thy brother above the shoulder, for ye knoweth that the LORD hath decreed that the head be sacred.
For thy sin, the LORD assesseth high, deliberate, and lowly impact, but the LORD looketh fondly upon thee, and merely demands of ye one ox and one sheep. Cometh to think of it, [censored] that. Pisseth off, ye mischievous little scamp.

If you think that's worthy of a suspension maybe stop watching AFL and go find something better to do. I'd lose the plot if one of our guys was suspended for that. Chrisso just generated some free publicity for the media for a couple of days.

If Dusty only got 1 week for deliberately elbowing a bloke with force to the head,  50m behind play,  there is no way this could have got the same result.

Dusty should've got 2 plus though in my opinion but the protected species rule was applied.

Just get Frosty to line him up next time we face him...

Gave me flashbacks to the semi last year when he tried it on Viney, but he got dumped!

no priors was only tried on to try and get the resultant fine rescinded. it was rejected. he got off the 1 week purely on a finding of accidental vs intentional.

must be time for christian now to resign. again he is at odds with the tribunal, whether it is his fault or the tribunal's it's clearly unworkable and a farce

Steven May got 2 weeks for holding his ground

The afl needs to change and reprimand based on whether the action is part of the game or not.

There are too many elbows and punches being thrown at the moment. These aren’t part of the game. There should be two tables - one for dangerous tackles/bumps (part of the game) and another for punches/kicks/eye gouging etc (not part of the game). The not part of the game needs a double penalty loading.

Way too logical for the AFL to consider Gunna

It was a very late contact, he jumped into the opponent with his forearm raised and made contact with the head.  The case should be about intent, not outcome.  He should have got a week.

One week the other 8 weeks were for getting injured and turning up out of shape

Should have been a fine at most. The hand wringers in this thread are really saying they would be happy for Clayton Oliver to be suspended for that? I very much doubt it.

The charge was never meant to stick.  Simply a warning shot across the bows of one of the superstars.  Was always going to be dropped IMO.  No surprise at all.

I think the issue is the lack of any fundamental justice or transparent process for all of this nonsense.  If this action is now acceptable, like Dusty's elbow, but Steven May's holding his ground is not, maybe that Stack kid should have been suspended for hurting Viney?  There is no way I would want Oliver suspended for anything (even MMA style ground and pound), but it should not be up to me.  It should be absolutely clear how these things are judged, and are scrutinised with due process.  Ablett did not need to make any contact with Shiel.  He did, and left the ground to make contact with both arms to the head.  if this is now judged just a high tackle, OK.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
