We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

In the past few years, the Saints have really troubled us with outside pace - especially over the back if any of our midfielders or defenders are slow in their two way running.

Lewis will come back in. Even though he is not the player he was and now he makes some decision errors, he reads the game so well, is often in the right place at the right time, and is a defensive beast which we need. But he does not help the outside pace quandry.

Hunt has been improving each game, but I wonder if he needs to play wing/half back to help with the defensive spread, and limit the easy one over the back? His pace will be important.

Frost's pace was highlighted against Buddy and will be useful against the Saints.

Do we consider Garlett and  if OMac misses due to concussion, do any of the Casey defensive talls possess decent pace?

I liked the Wagner boys, Hoare and Hunt in their new roles. I would like all four to be given some time to develop synergy within the team. The Wagner boys are tough, fearless and quick. They tackle well which suits our game plan. I know they are blue collar which means they aren't always AFL standard but given time I think they can hold down positions. Hunt spent last year in the VFL developing his defensive side and is our best small forward at the moment, when you need two or even three in your team.

Where that puts some of the others I'm not sure but stick with those four against smaller forward lines for me.

Unusually quiet this thread. Good signs.

Yeah well I would rather a Big Mac meal in a Melbourne wrapper than O Mac in the team anytime!

I don't know about Garlett.  He doesn't apply enough forward pressure.

If he kicks 3 or more goals HE WILL PLAY!

Billy Stretch again underwhelming!

NQR Keilty for Oscar

At least Keilty will have 'a go' repeatedly, closely, quickly and more thoroughly until the clearance is completed on each occasion.

Very tempting, it surely will produce confidence and form.

Yeah I've been wanting Hunt to be tried on the wing to help our lack of midfield pace.

Don't fall in love with old mate Wagner just yet. He has more flexibility given we are covered in the key defensive roles, albeit with Omac and Frost. If OMAC doesn't play, Corey may fill his role. Better player in the air, sure, but his early years weren't so flash. Happy to give him a chance.

Nasher, you shouldnt have to explain yourself in regards to Jetta. But i also understand why you had to.. ?‍♂️

Jetta is simply locked and loaded in our best 22. He is also our Vice captain and when on song he's one of our best one on one defenders. St Kilda forwards have a mix of small forwards that run through there, Billings Lonie Gresham etc. Gresham is the one i want Jetta locking down on.

You actually should have to question team selections based on players form.

Jetta was injured, hence the form.

Surely it’s beyond question that a non-injured Jetta plays seniors. I can’t see any sensible scenario where Jetta plays at Casey.

If he was carrying an injury, well then that explains a lot. However the "Beyond question" aspect of team selection needs to be dialled back a touch. Players get old and their abilities start waning. You can expect this to occur for Jetta soon enough. He isn't having as big an impact as he was in 2017 and started last year poorly too. To his credit he had a big 2nd half last year.

Questioning is fine, people in here do it to Lewis ad nauseum. Questioning, especially if players like Hore, Wagner & Petty make a bigger impact in the seniors as time goes on should be fine. I'm not writing him off, but if he has a poor patch of form in the next month, other players deserve a go too.

Why would you drop Spargo? Is Baker going to offer more? Deckchairs.

Spargo did some great 'rover' work against the Swans. Make no mistake about that despite a few fluffs and fumbles in that game. He is showing opportunity teamwork, generally kicking intelligently and well; a few more games and we have Johnny Townsend on our hands, again. Possibly - but I am prepared to watch, analyse his play and wait.

If Spargo becomes John Townsend, ANB will become Greg Parke. It is not happening.

You might have your wish PF with Jeffy having a decent game today apparantly and kicking 3.

Billy was more a direct replacement for ANB but they might be able to swing Jeffy in anyway and push Spargo up the field to cover Stretch's role (if ommitted).

Hannan would have been the obvious replacement for ANB if fit.

On the G i would also feel that is our best option until Hannan returns.  Jeffy then comes in for Stretch and Fritschkrieg gets the other wing.

On the smaller grounds like Marvel and SCG we might be able to get away with rotating say Spargo/Melk/Chunk & Fritchskrieg on the wings allowing us the luxury of Hunt up forward as per the Swans.

Chunk to play a mostly forward role regardless of the ground.  More so when Hannan returns with little time, if any, on a wing.

Interesting selections this week - Lockhart will also be available. Goodwin doesn’t like changing winning sides so I can’t see much happening. Oscars concussion may provide an opportunity for Petty to come in. I reckon Jetta will need more than a week to get over his knee. Lewis is underdone and probably should have a run at Casey - he will hate that. Like others I can’t se May being ready for a few weeks.

Nah, ANB already kicks better than Greg Parke, just nowhere near as good at marking.

No way can Spargo cover Stretch (or ANB), his "engine" is 2-stroke wippa-snippa stuff

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
