You've got your head in the sand if you think AFL players don't do drugs, including Melbourne players (jack watts for example). Murray just got caught

The list of players who don't would be shorter than the list of players who do...

Is this the same Jack Martin that begged and pleaded to be a Bomber this time last year?

Unless there’s a clear threat that he’d sit out the season, or would be a toxic member of the playing group, just be a little ruthless and take him in the PSD. Even if he’ll only sign a 1 year contract.

We need to further leverage what was a most unexpectedly disastrous season.

We’ll got 2 top 10 picks.

We’re getting a bottom 6 draw.

Lets take advantage of pick 2 in the PSD!

Which is why i am not overly fond of bringing him in. Sounds like a sooky little b!tch to me.

Wouldn't mind seeing Viney steamroll him at training though!

Agree, pick him and hope he turns up in better shape than May - no sure thing though. Worst case we trade him later for an ND pick.

Once he meets the players and staff he will settle in well - no  doubt. With luck he will prove to be a great get.

I see it as some compensation for dropping from pick 2 to 3 in the ND.

The HUN reported GC were offered a low ball future second and third round pick in next years highly compromised draft. Hardly a worthy offer for a  player allegedly offered $600k+ pa. If he nominates for the PSD we will know what he wants - if its made public.

HUN article quoting Martins manager stating that there are many ways to structure a contract to scare off rivals. By rivals he means Ds and GC. The article then talks of first season at $800k plus that the Ds would not match given he would request a trade after the first season. The article actually says 'would request a trade after the first season.

You cannot get much more blatant draft tampering than those sorts of plans. I would say the Ds would be seeking clarification from the AFL. The AFL would need to step in to stop this. If not this could happen on a regular basis. It will scare clubs into accepting low ball offers for out of contract players or risk losing them for nothing in the PSD via dodgy structured contracts and the threat of walking out after one season if drafted by the non preferred club.

If the AFL allows a dodgy contract to stand  then I doubt we will draft him.

In summary, the D's need to grow some B's and seek clarification from the AFL

He can request a trade after a year and we can ignore his request or demand a first rounder for him.

Agreed, Martin would never put himself in a situation where he is close to a contested ball.

FMD! If that's not draft tampering then it's certainly against the spirit of the draft.

This is what happens when the players and their managers hold all the CBA cards and the clubs fold.

The AFL will never get between a player and their club of choice. As soon as a player challenges the afls player transfer rules in court the whole house of cards comes down

If Martin doesn’t want to engage and explore the possibility of being in red and blue next year, then let’s move on.
Not sook to the AFL

Not blow our budget

its Really no big deal, he’s a player who’s not achieved a lot despite evident potential and talent.

Elliot budget isn’t going to be used. We may as well use it on Martin.

or maybe put it towards trying to pry a half decent FA next year

Check his instagram

Average player with no elite traits.

He will not be the difference between Carlton being a better team than MFC next year.

If we land him, great. But really posters pumping him up to be the next GAJ need to take a cold shower.

Why dont we get his ex-captain to have a word about the dees...

Edited by jnrmac

I get the feeling posters only want him because Carlton want him and he doesn’t want to come to us. Get over it, he’s not a great player and certainly not worth what he’s allegedly asking.

It’s Chris Judd all over again...

oh the horror

and he barracked for the Demons!!!

???

Someone like Martin falling through to the PSD is a hugely rare event. I’m quite sure the dees are exploring every option and every method of persuasion behind closed doors. At least I hope so.

Judging by his Instagram photos I think I know the answer.

He’s not a free agent, therefore hasn’t earns the right to choose a club and only play for that club. He must enter the national draft or preseason draft, which means he’s up for grabs from whichever club drafts him.

If he elects a club and refuses to join that club, he sits out of playing AFL. Anything else is draft tampering.

The AFL need to get involved here or it breaks the rules they’ve created, sets a precedent and changes the landscape in a negative way.

it was reported that the mfc would only consider him if he had some interest and he doesn't so we move on and use the cap space next year.. Carlton and his mgmt were are all over him going to psd well before trade deadline ended and he will get to Carlton. Move on everyone and focus any truely 'available' players

I am on the record as saying Jack Martin is no where near the what he is being valued at. the only thing that's going to affect us is the perceived public and media scrutiny for not "taking a risk" or "having some pills" to draft him.

Stuff that, i guarantee Martin will never win a game for you, would rather draft Jack Newnes.
