I think we should be going after Zac Jones in a big way.

Fits the mould perfectly.

Tough, breaks lines with hard running and pace and normally uses the ball very well.

Likes the fake tough stuff more than the real stuff and often uses the ball like he's drunk. Rushes in to contests and rushes his disposal, both traits that aren't particularly suited to the wing or half back. I can't see him being worth the price. The Swans or Saints can have him.

It won't be easy to find a perfect outside runner, they aren't easy to come by, but I still think we can do better than Zak. Ed Langdon would be nice, skills aren't great but he's a more natural outside runner, unfortunately he's started the year in good form and might become costly.

Time to go to the draft. We have to back our own development. We have enough experience in our lineup. Unless an established star nominates us, forget it! We really need another quality first and second round draft pick. A key forward and an outside midfielder would do.

Now we’re talking. A midfielder with pace and versatility. Would be a good fit for our current midfield.

I still think we should throw everything possible at Coniglio as a free agent. He’s an elite midfielder with all the attributes we require. We need to land talent through free agency and stop wasting high draft picks.

The best mate thing and barracking for a club as a kid doesn't really matter.

It's going to be cash and opportunity.

If GWS miss out again this year can we deliver him cash and a flag?

...or are the Hawks better placed?

I'd usually agree, but Hawthorn is a different beast.

Opposition clubs and players would have been in awe of Clarkson and Hawthorn for a decade.

If your best mate is O'Meara and you know Mitchell is returning in 2020 and you've seen them land your former colleague in Scully, as well as Wingard, then it adds up to an attractive proposition.

If it were me I'd be wanting to go to them ahead of every other Victorian club.

Carlton are chasing Coniglio hard and have been for a while

Zak Jones moving up the pecking order at Sydney this year may push his price up if he shines. His hard run and leg speed are what we need through the middle.  Not sold on his decision making and disposal

With regard to ZAK.....shhhhhhhh............slightly obvious to me and my eyes, just saying.

I think we should go for Zac, but Not pay too highly.   His age group suits us,  as we are about to shed a couple of aged senior players.

If he wants to come,  then OK...  but we pay less than they do,  with they're COLA.

Zac being 24Yrs,  could help fill the void we have in our mid-aged players...  adds depth to this, and our midfield

Lewis,  nJones  and Garlett all come out of contract later this year...   Lew will be finished,  and Nate and Jeffy will be on reduced money,  in they're next contracts.

Zac should not be our 1st target...  rather a supplementary pickup.

We need to grab an A grade player for around the middle, prior to recruiting Zac.

Our midfield is not as good as most thought it was...  and with kids coming into clubs like Sam Walsh, cCurnow, hMcKay, Setterfield, Petrevki-Seton Lochie OBrien, Paddy Dow, etc, etc.

We will be left behind again,  starting in around 2 seasons time.

We need to get back to the draft again this year to add more talent,  looking fill the speed/skill void.

Totally agree 'LT'...    offer him a 60% stake in the farm.

We need an A grade Mid to polish the middle.

If we need foot speed, maybe we can coax Sam Blease out of retirement?

I can never recall Blease ever using his pace defensively. Did he ever run someone down like Hunt does? All i ever recall was him outting the jets on just as he was about to receive the ball.

That's pretty much it.  It was very much a tongue in cheek suggestion from me.  I was trying to highlight the point that a few people just want someone with pace in the side, or to recruit someone with pace, without actually looking fully at what they bring to the side.  A few rounds ago there were suggestions we should bring Baker in, purely because he is quick.  We need much, much more than just pace.

Is Usain Bolt available as a free agent?

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
