Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Cornes: Stop Whinging Dees

Two issues here which Crud Cornes conveniently makes one.

1) legality/illegality if blocking

2) p-weak flying of the flag

He's a bozo . Jonas etc were in the wrong

However...Gawn had no mates... disgusting.

This guy is a bilge  pumper.  Likes to be Mr Headline.

He is right that we have to take responsibility for how we played it, but he is wrong that asking for guidance on where the ‘line’ is should be considered whinging.

If what Port did is OK, then I would give Paddy Ryder a total workover next time we meet.  Mr May is just the man for the job.

Gawn had no mates, and this really underscores I think the biggest issue of the whole day.  There seemed to be no cohesion in the group, they did not play for each other or do team first actions.  We got what we deserved for doing so.

Kane Corn (holer) will find something else to dump on next week, and his Port Power affiliations are too strong to discount in his coverage.

Spot on @ProDee

For all the whinging about how fighting fire with fire being undisciplined on here, it usually allows the game to be played on its merits by making the opposition think twice before pulling any dodgy shenanigans (see Lewis' hit on Cripps in 2017)

That scene at half time of Robbie Gray sticking it up Gawny reminded me of that time when Daniel Merrett plastered Pedo's nose over his face against the Lions in 2014. Not in the act per se but it was similar in that no one went in to fly the flag for the aggrieved.

Does anyone think that this won't be used against us again? Remember how long it took to get rid of the 'bruise free' reputation and how clubs would burn us off in the first 20 minutes by applying physical pressure?

I'm hoping May makes a difference in this front (and Lewis when he gets back). I'm hoping the reason Viney didn't jump in was because he was lame and not for other reasons.

Agree 100%

How on earth does a team supposedly overflowing with tough, hard at it types, allow their main weapon to be knocked around for an entire game, with not a single retaliatory action in his defence?

Maybe our so-called team of young bulls are still weaners?

I'll give the boys the benefit of the doubt on this one and give them the chance to respond against Geelong before labeling them soft, which they absolutely were on all fronts in round 1.

Once upon a time when a team was losing or being monstered some of the more antsy players would start a fight to attempt to stop opposition momentum. We tend to cower and wimp out. What happened in round one was unacceptably similar to when we played the Swans in round 15, 2017. Gawn was physically targeted severely that day also and we lost bad. We were riding high before that game after a string of great wins. It was very disappointing to see this happen again as well as the last quarter capitulation. Jones and Viney let the side down bad. Since beating Hawthorn in the First Semi we have been woeful. All this bathwater talk has some merit IMO.

The  only positive I see is now we have the opportunity to weed out this pathetic mindset early unlike late as in the past two seasons.

"Someone should tell Goodwin that Ryder is 12 centimetres shorter than Gawn and is 14-15 kilograms lighter. Oh, and there’s the small fact that he was playing with a fractured cheekbone.

Obviously Gawn and Melbourne couldn’t handle a few tiny midfielders in Karl Amon, Steven Motlop and 18-year-old first-year player Connor Rozee bumping him off the ball.

Port captain Tom Jonas also had his way with Gawn dropping him off the ball. Michael Christian, the AFL’s Match Review Officer, dealt with Jonas accordingly and fined him $2,000 for the incident.

Jonas has no regrets and said he would do it again.

Rather than whinging to the AFL on the back of a shock loss, Melbourne, Gawn and Goodwin should take a leaf out of Port’s book and step up.

There was nothing illegal about these tactics and it’s what has made our game great for so long.

The Demons need to take responsibility for their own performance or they could be waiting another 55 years to taste premiership success."

Haha, what a stupid little gronk. Don't contradict yourself in the same few sentences. Was it legal or was Jonas fined? If it were within the rules, there would be no fine.

That said, what a whack. I hope that sparks us, because we were pitiful last week.

OK, prepared to cop rubbish from these biased ex-footballers who land cushy jobs in the media to spout their uninteresting opinions, BUT, when he utters a sentence like, "There was nothing illegal about these tactics and IT'S WHAT HAS MADE OUR GAME GREAT FOR SO LONG", excuse me while I throw up. If that what makes our game great then we should all pack up our bags now and go and live in a cave.

Couldn't agree with Cornes more.

Shut your pie-hole Melbourne and let your actions do the talking.

It's certainly got the spoilt brat, entitled football club about it.

When Gawn was banging on during pre season about only being happy going into an off-season after winning the flag, I was thinking STFU and just concentrate on training and preparing for Round 1.

Our blokes didnt give a whimper. Nothing at all wrong with what Cornes said.

You won't win a pressure final by betting knocked around by an 18yr old kid.

I look at the results of other high finishers from last year, and hope our pitiful performance was something to do with where we are in our training program, due to aiming at being at our peak for finals.

agree we were soft  STICK UP FOR YOUR MATES  (legally of course)

We know what the rules are. 'Seeking clarification' is short-hand for 'Hey AFL, can you keep an eye on this please'. Thus, it really is a form of whinging. And it's smart. Clarkson and the Scotts do it all the time and it works. Running a football club is a multi-million dollar business and an old-school response isn't enough. I hate the fact that Angus went and befriended that Razor [censored], but I'll begrudge it, because it's proven to have been super-important for the club.

Forget cornes, what about Brad Scott. After his player who has a reputation of cheap shots and gut punches got fined and not lucky to get a suspension, he said that players went down like mack trucks. Surely he wasn't having a go at the freo player that cunnington hit.

Brad Scott is a different cattle of fish. Beating his team in finals was one of the sweeter moments of life thus far.

I hate the dirty [censored] and I hope Gawn gets a free kick every time a Geelong player goes near him, just so I can see Scott explode in the box.

Cornes is a giant D- bag but he isn’t wrong.

Too much talking and too many excuses. We played like crap and we played soft footy.

Only half right

Port crossed line several times.

The AFL..ask...that's fine

The limp effort of Dee players and any excuses by club...uh uh... very embarrassing

Cornes is more biased towards his Former club then any other media personality so take this with a grain of salt

He Is drunken, but he is also spot on at the same time.

We at Melbournefc have made an art form of whinging...  when physical steaks are dished out.  This would NEVER have happened, under norm smiths demons.  No whinging, just get out there and do your own hard footy.

I don't think the Vineys would be doing any whinging out aloud.

The time we should have kicked up sand, was with May...  but we seemed to accept the head high hit as truth...  rubbish decision,  unless it was preordained.

Melbourne not contesting the head contact at the appeal, was as weak as pizz.

May-b they wanted May, to learn an early lesson, in March.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to
