Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. You can see from this image May has stopped. He is not moving forward, ready to anticipate whether Berry is going to handball, or even bulk and take him on. Since Berry has chosen to handball all May has done from here is turn his shoulder bracing for impact. The side on view shows May falling back after contact indicating his body weight or momentum has stopped. If May was running or had momentum forward, then the outcome would’ve been a lot worse. If May hadn’t of turned his body, there probably would’ve been a head clash, with both players either having a broken nose of both knocked out.

May had 1 of three options.

1. Step aside and not impact the contest at all which probably breaks a team rule.

2. Stand there at the risk of both getting injured.

3. Turn and brace for contact, which is the option he took.

This is the photo you are using for evidence? I hope you are not representing May at the tribunal.

By the by you listed 3 options and he didn't take any of them. The closest of your option was option 3 but he added some mayo. The mayo being he moved his body towards Berry. That's to say he took option 4 - bumping Berry. It is why he got reported.

If breaking a team rule gets a player suspended, then there is something wrong with the team rule.

I guess we’ll have too agree to disagree on this one binman. You see it 100 times a game. All I’m saying is May used no force which is what the club is challenging.

Looks to me gets him upper chest, chin whiplashes into the upper shoulder.

Check the frame at 5.51... the chin is above the point of shoulder...  and contact is made when the players throat contacts may's shoulder.   The players Chin is above the level of the shoulder at impact.

Lucky it wasn''t  McChins... May would have been sure to get at least one of Ed's numerous chins...  and E'd would have gone down luck a plucked Magpie.

Then we would be in trouble for injuring rare wildlife.

I think that is more do to with lack of goals and maybe lack of pressure.  Not doing enough thumping of people off the ball is not why he is not in the team.

Lack of goals is not his problem.

Thumping people off the ball that could potentially run on and receive it again is part of every teams game plan.

For Pete's sake am I watching the same footage as others. Or is there two versions. May dropped his shoulder and moved into him deliberately to drop him. Which he succeeded in doing. Which is why he got reported. Stupid

Yes he could have moved out the way. But that is not really an option. So instead he could have achieved the aim of blocking him by simply bracing and protecting himself. And he would not have been reported. Instead he made the decision to bump (A much smaller player) and therefore put himself in a situation where a report becomes possible. Stupid. And what did he gain? Nothing.

So now we face the chance of meeting a side loaded with tall forwards without our biggest and best kpd. Great. Good on him. Smart. Not.

Even if gets off the appeal is s palaver we don't need ahead of round one.

The club will say the right things but internally they will be fuming.

Pretend you are may you are standing flatfooted with your legs apart now turn yourself to go into the brace position, you have to take one step forward, to meet impact and the other leg remains in position, this motion comes naturally and instinctively to meet someone about to run into you on a football field

Pretend you are representing May and instead of trying to get it downgraded to fine (ie accept guilt but argue low impact) you try to get him off using this argument. In that pretend world does may get off?

As soon as you choose to bump you risk a report - and if you accidentally make even slight contact to the head you are sure to be reported. If you make heavy contact you get weeks.

Let's not kid ourselves.

These things you say are supposed to be true, and in a fair and consistent MRP/tribunal world they would be true and no-one would have any issue with any of it.

But ... we don't live in that world. We live in a world where the MRP work off the wheel of fortune, or a darts board, or dice rolls, or horoscopes ... no-one can be sure, such is the discrepancy and inexplicable randomness of it ... and the tribunal is something to be gamed, where you take your most audacious shot and hope that the tribunal members' biorythms are out of sync and you get a favourable result. And you often do!

We are out of our minds if we sit back and say "well, it's a fair cop". Because it is not a fair cop, not in the world where fairness and consistency have been replaced by chooklotto.

We've come up snake eyes and want a second roll of the dice. If we don't get it, or if we accept the results of the first roll, we're not playing the same game and deserve to lose.

Until the AFL/MRP/tribunal get their act together we have every right to be upset, and every right to have a second bite of the cherry.

Clubs need to challenge every decision of the MRP for no other reason than to get the AFL to work toward finally getting it right, ie, consistent.

Interesting how his head goes back , and then to the left .... back and to the left .... back and to the left

are there missing frames that the CIA (sorry AFL) have taken out of the zapruder film which exaggerate the violent head movement we see in the footage ....

I'm always fascinated by how people perceive something like this, especially with one of our own players.

I'd like to think that May could have knocked him out and we, as a supporter group, could still find a loop hole to get him out of it, but to each their own.  (I'm not condoning violence by the way, just an example.)

Very similar to free kicks. Each club’s fans can see incidents differently.

I’m so sick of all the do gooders saying May was in the wrong.

The great teams have always been brutal. We were in the 60’s. Geelong were and Hawthorn were in their dynasty’s.

The Brisbane Lions who are the greatest team I have ever seen were.

I Hope May gets reported and suspended again during the season. And again so every forward is worried he is coming.

We have a 1 goal and that is a premiership. I have a feeling May will be drinking from the cup.

Have you seen some of the arguments that player advocates have come up with over the years? That have succeeded against all common sense?

We are seriously dense if we play this with a straight bat and don't try to game the system like all other clubs, and try to get May off.

This is quite apart from the serious argument that he was legitimately "standing his ground", in accordance with the rules of a contact sport.

Dam right. Get yourself suspended so you can't play, that'll really put the jeebies up them.

Shades of Doug and Dinsdale Piranha here.

Nice point. I see Mick as being more like the photographer at the end of Apocalypse Now. Too much time in the company of the evil genius(es) [at AFL house] has sent him round the twist and he's a few pips short of the whole orange.

I’m still angry from Brent Moloney getting suspended when he missed the bloke who dived out of his way and landed on his head.

We seem to get a terrible run at the tribunal / MRP

That Moloney decision was nothing short of a disgrace and the Tribunal simply made it up as they went along. It still sticks in my craw.

Another shocker was the Jack Trengove throw on Dangerfield, who was allegedly destroyed in the incident, with Jack getting 4 weeks while Danger was miraculously resurrected to be best on the ground with 5 goals the next week.

Taking that seriously, aren't you disappointed that it is even arguable whether he did or did not do anything wrong.  Shouldn't he have just KO'd the bloke to scare people in future?

And we should be disappointed if we don't have at least 2 or 3 blokes on suspension every week just to show how tough  we are.

Just caught an audio grab on SEN. Mentioned the tribunal is underway (or about to be) and Melbourne will be attempting to downgrade the impact from medium to low and they concede the hit was ‘high’.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
