Let me be the first to ask a dumb question. Does the vertical leap test measure absolute height or height above the player's own height. In other words do the King twins, who average 203 cm have a 30 cm advantage over Chandler before they even take a leap? If so, the Chandler twins (ie, Kade and Kyle) are the second best of everyone, they must have a helluva jump.  

I can't for the life of me understand why alleged "supporters" are writing these young blokes off sight unseen (or based on a brief video).  What is it that you don't get? 

Apart from the fact that they are boys that are still growing and maturing, they have been selected by the powers that be at our club as having the potential to be AFL footballers.  FCS give them a bloody chance!

I’m going early with this but have been watching Chandler very closely this year and I see a different player to last year. I think he’s upped his endurance by about 15%. His pressure acts, and tackling have improved, and he remains brave as. I would very much like to see a proper I/V with him to get more of a sense of him, I’d like to believe he is a very decent young man. (Gus and Gawn he was hamming it up) 

To my point, he is ANB 2.0, lots of hard defensive running, role player, and I think we are quickly starting to rely on his defensive pressure, it is something about his effort that makes me think he has moved past a few on the list. I was genuinely nervous when he’s had some leg knocks as I don’t think he’s obvious replacements match him for defensive efforts.

For mine most improved player so far this season.

Oh and if he’d kicked that snap that hit the post in the opening qtr last week, I reckon he’d almost be in the votes, was a great bit of work that just missed.

Agree with a lot of that.

I think he was doing alot of defensive stuff last year as well.  Like ANB, his ability to run both ways and also get on the end of it offensively is close to elite. 

I think an area that he's actually a bit ahead of ANB is his goal kicking, both snapping out of a pack situation, but particularly his set shot kicking, which I'd almost put him up there as elite for.  Generally very reliable accuracy wise and he's also got a great range, being quite capable from 50m and even a bit beyond that.  Incidentally, I think this is an area of his game that ANB has also improved as I've noted him reciently being able to take advantage of the stand rule and slot goals from around 50m, where in the past, his range seemed to be more limited to around 40m.

Started brilliantly last season with multiple three goal hauls but by the end of the season wasn't contributing on the scoreboard or doing as much defensively.

Has had a good to start to 2024. Makes you wonder what duress he is under with his knee. Is a tough little buggar and he and he ANB have showed the way to date. But would rather he be firing at the business end of the season so if Spargo, Kolt and others can keep the seat warm then we shouldnt hesitate doing that...

@Rodney (Balls) Grinter yes his goal kicking was running at 81% during 1st third of last season. His sets shots have been a thing of beauty and he’s is very high, if not leading in assists. I was more commenting on everything but the goal kicking which obviously stands out, it is the defensive pressure going up beyond what I saw in ‘23, I would say he tried the same things last year, he seems to make the tackles stick more now in ‘24, and has multiple efforts in each play (Sparrow has improved in this as well btw). My handle is DEEfence not DeeATTACK, sorry, ducks head…

Massive fan of Chin and what he brings to the team. Great character and work rate. Hits the scoreboard and uses the ball well also hard at it and provides great defensive pressure. Like Nibbler is very disciplined in his role.Would love to see him build on the endurance and roll through the midfield more in a rotation with Kossie to provide us a different more dynamic look to our midfield to go compliment our bulls. Having Chin and Kossie with their speed, skill and X factor as part of a mids rotation would help with the mid forward connection which is improving this year.

He’s surprised me with what he’s bought this year. Thought we may of seen the best of him. Was actually expecting AMW and even Laurie to go past him. Hopefully the bye weekend helps his knees recover. It’s a long season

Seems to be back to that early form of last year.

Just need him to be more consistent this year.

Had a hint of star quality about him last year.

The in form version of Chandler (such as the first 8 rounds last season and his start so far this season) is as good as any small forward you'd choose to compare him to. As DEEFence noted, he does seem fitter and more able to stay involved in games or at least provide the defensive cover running even when he isn't getting stats, which will help his consistency significantly.

I think Chandler's 50th game (currently 37) will be a nice little one for the milestones thread because he really looks to be making that transition to established AFL player.

Pretty good sign that the weekend (Port game) he doesn’t hit the scoreboard he still manages 20 touches as a small forward.

Provides a great outlet with his running and overhead marking for someone his size.

Super impressed with his year so far.

Agree with it all. I, too, have watched him closely; particularly, at training or pre-game warm-ups, kicking 6 out of 6 from different angles, 55 metres out from goal, repetitively across a whole year, almost. Most went through post-high with no spiral or arc deviations. One day, in a game, given the opportunity and whole-team support, he is going to cut loose with a bagful, and indeed, may well start the journey to be amongst the top-scorers. Tough nugget, keen, getting out by himself - a developing opportunist for a long-term role.

Agree. He’s a classic example of a guy born with a strong will and determination to succeed. And to compete. He has also been patient in waiting his turn being prepared to listen and learn from his coaches. A player that coaches must love. Plays for the team.  Makes the most of his gifts unlike others who have tons of ability but don’t have that inner drive. 

He has great agility too, quick change of direction.  I'm excited by Chandlers footy and agree with you all. 

Agree with all previous comments and feel that Kade, Alex and Kozzie are our wild cards that help open up the game for Clayton, Tracc, Jack and Spaz and I can see Lingers, Billings and the Duke helping to create more space and opportunities as our mids run more forward of the ball. I think Kade has replaced Spargs to a degree, but good to have him up our sleeve.

Small fwd is one of the hardest and most thankless roles in a team.

You lead maybe 25/28 times a game (22 times they ignore you) , you chase oppo defenders, you move up to help the mids and give an exit out of defence. It takes a huge tank and a lot of patience and determination.

Chin plays the role very well and is becoming more reliable by the game.

Kade is tracking beautifully. No faulting his endeavour and he's taking his chances.

The area I want to see him continue to improve in is positioning at contests. Knowing when to get front and square and when to hit the back, I'd love to see him become a small forward that can create half chances for himself and full chances out of half chances. As mentioned above it can be an unrewarding position but if he can be a forward that might only get 6 possessions but a goal or 2 guaranteed, I'd take it.
