That would make far more sense.

Would be happier to drop Tyson, Play Fritta on a wing and use Smith up back!

We've also lost our weakest defender.

Not a defender at all Winger or smart HFF For mine!!

I remember Smith last year against Saints before he did his shoulder and playing pretty well on Rooey!

Gets my nod!

Tyson very fortunate!

To be honest I think I would prefer Fritsch to Hannan up forward. To me he offers far more.

I feel for Bailey if he has been dropped, but Smith gives us the best chance in defence of negating WC's talls. If we win the midfield battle, they won't be getting any easy ball in there and winning one on ones may be important

I think other than the Petty selection, the FD IMO has done pretty well and we are in a Prelim after all.

Frost not playing for so long might be the other one.

Hannan is a much more dangerous player and harder at it.

Think Goodwin said today that if Melbourne win on Saturday a number of players will be pulled from the Casey game on Sunday for back up should anything go wrong during the week.

Why on earth would you do that? The whole (uninjured) team will be available, albeit with a 6-day break, further, all will have a VFL Premiership under their belt! Stupidest idea I have ever heard! I want to see two Demon Premierships in 2018! ?

Channel 7 just confirmed Fritta got dropped for J.Smith

Official Smith for Fritsch:  http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2018-09-20/preliminary-final-team

The emergencies Jay Kennedy Harris, Jayden Hunt, Fritsch and Tim Smith two of whom will go to Perth

Bad luck Bayley....   maybe back in for the Grand Final.

Sheppard out for the Eagles.

Heartbreak for the kid, but Joel is a better defender and a good intercept mark.

We need our best possible defensive set up to combat the likes of Kennedy,Darling, Rioli, Ryan and LeCras.

We've lost one of our best kicks.

In a game that will be hot on a fast track, who would you prefer kicking the ball into the forward line, Fritsch or Tyson?

Tyson isn't as bad as people make it seem. Like i said Fritsch was guilty of blazing away and not picking out a target.

Can only feel for Fritz, has had an amazing year.

Hopefully Joel steps up to the plate!

The kid will spew but I suspect it's a decision based on aerial defensive skills.

Well. I feel a bit better knowing we have now given ourselves a plan B incase darling or JK gets off the leash.

truth be told...how nice it is to be in the position to have to make heartbreaking decisions...

Well I gotta say Tim Smith AS EMERGENCY IS EVEN A BIGGER SURPRISE!!

Jeffy? Pedo?? Bigger call!?

Well there is no room for sentiment. Feel for Fritta but cest la vie...

feeling confident our pressure will pump them. All the pressure is on them really...

Very tough on Fritta, he’s had an excellent year and has done very little wrong.

Big call from the selection committee but I’ll back Smith in.

The Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, falling to 0–4 after a more spirited showing against the Cats at Kardinia Park. Despite the improved effort, they went down by 39 points, and the road ahead is looking increasingly grim.

"It's officially time for some alarm bells. I'm concerned about the lack of impact from their best players." This comment about one of the teams contesting this Friday night’s game came earlier in the week from a so-called expert radio commentator by the name of Kane Cornes. He wasn’t referring to the Melbourne Football Club but rather, this week’s home side, Geelong. The Cats are purring along with 1 win and 2 defeats and a percentage of 126.2 (courtesy of a big win at GMHBA Stadium in Round 1 vs Fremantle) which is one win more than Melbourne and double the percentage so I guess that, in the case of the Demons, its not just alarm bells, but distress signals. But don’t rely on me. Listen to Cornes who said this week about Melbourne:- “They can’t run. If you can’t run at speed and get out of the contest then you’re in trouble.
