If it was Dave Hughes I’d be just as flabbergasted.

Waleed seems like a perfectly reasonable human being to me but his opinion on AFL is no more valid than anyone’s on here. Strange.

I saw the title and fairly assumed it was an article from The Onion.

Only Waleed can save this country.Only Waleed knows what is really going on lounge rooms across the nation. It's colonialism,it's racism, it's pure evil plotted and perpetuated by people of no colour.Waleed needs to step up and help us become more accepting ,decent, intelligent, caring, loving and inclusive. If you disagree with this you are racist, evil, and narrow minded.Help us Waleed. We are nothing without you.

Back on the J.Walker again, Biff. More clap trap....

Lol, so he attended a briefing? That's it?

Is it just me or has the contents of the article linked in the OP changed?

Could have sworn it was different a few hours ago.

Some top-notch journalism going on here.

Lock this thread up.

This kind of discussion was barred in the General forum, and now we have the usual suspects pushing their respective barrows here in a football discussion forum!

You can tell where the Hun's priorities lie.

Non football person consulted about rules who happens to be Muslim (well not really) so let's headline the opinion of a peripheral football person (who is better known for playing cricket) who appeals to the little Aussie battler demographic (but is one of the bigger louts in Australian sporting history).

It's interesting. I'm no fan of Waleed however I think the joke is more on the AFL than him, which is the point. The AFL are desperate, they created this mess yet they are consulting every man and his dog on proposed rule changes. There has been a football fan forum and group set up which had a meeting in June I attended, the session did not go for long enough and proposed ideas from this were apparently laughed at by the AFL. The joke of it is the AFL and Gil himself, not Waleed Aly, who I don't think should have been approached anyway.

He wasn't.

Original article was incorrect. He attended a briefing, that is all. The story on the link in the OP seems to have been updated with the facts, but with no mention of being incorrect in the first place.

Your comment on the AFL being a joke however is accurate.

That may we’ll be the point SF, but the problem here is that threads like this will be, and are, hijacked; this thread being a case in point.

The Hun put out their fishing rod and got what they wanted. Social media outrage and clicks by the thousands was a guarantee.

No issue with Waleed being consulted - main surprise is another Geelong person wasn't asked. Hocking has loaded up with Geelong people on the Committee and the extras (Whateley etc) and also sees no reason to budge from his pre-determined view (Triple M last Saturday).

All to give Danger room to move around stoppages.

TBH I don't believe any of them and if he was just going in to hear the proposed rule changes as a general fan, then why can't everyone else?

Lets go with the idea

What rule changes would Waleed bring in?

Compulsory virtue signalling we have already.

I also liked the added touch of using that photo of him sporting the most condescending possible look he could have pulled.

Well played Rupert. Try a bit harder next time and you might be able to drive him out of the country too!

Not yet,I've got a Klan meeting followed by a #Free Tommy meeting to attend. Then I'll hit the Scotch and wallow in hatred and bigotry all evening. There's never enough hours in the day.

It's good to stay busy: it sure beats being bored...

Complete and utter non-story.

They are doing these presentation to many, many people. Waleed was on SEN this morning and he got into one of the presentations because someone from the project now heads the AFLW.

Que the unjustified outrage..

AFL now bringing in random minor celebrities they want to be seen with in the social pages, as consultants on the 'state of the game'.

Quick test to see if Waleed Aly is in tune with the problems of the gamedoes he say,  "The first thing you should do is stop inviting people like me for a chit-chat, and start focusing on the fundamentals".

All very irritating.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
