  • Playing a borderline finals team at home, who was missing its best mid, kpd and kpf.
  • Absolute disgrace. VFL making sure a Victorian team is in the 8
  • He Lecras, no good having a crack after the siren ya spud, how you get a game in front of Waterman is anyone’s guess
  • Umps propping up the Vic teams they are a disgrace
  • We are really getting done on the free kicks. Melbourne are much dirtier than I expected. I had to turn off the TV commentary and the radio is much better
  • Melbourne got lucky soon as darling went down I knew it was game over
  • The dees are a dirty team and cheat to get the win they suck
  • Gawn killed us. Three votes easily.
  • lol at that umpiring. Outstanding effort to get Melbourne over the line, brown paper bag stuff.
  • Melbourne hype this week from the media will be nauseating.
  • Last time the demons made the finals, we won the premiership
  • Was always going to happen v the Dees this - they are a very good contested side.
  • It was actually a really good quality game and Melbourne deserved the win. They took all our punches and rolled with them. Good on them.
  • F U C k Melbourne! Cheating campaigners, they don't deserve [censored]!
  • Scott Lycett. Just couldn’t go with the best ruckman around. Comprehensively beaten in key contests. Pay him #1 ruck money at our peril. He’s still a second banana.
  • VFL umpiring. If that continues for Melbourne then it’s obvious that they’re the next Western Bulldogs who won GF with umps turning a blind eye to throwing. Today we saw continuous throwing, incorrect disposal, HTB, high tackles, Holding the man, scragging and stray elbows continuously not paid against the Dee’s. Pathetic.
  • Would rather see port make it then Melbourne
  • Gawn took us to the cleaners
  • The good news is it means Melbourne will play finals. That's basically an insta win. Under finals pressure they'll fold like a house of cards. Only reason they won is cause Darling went down early, no kennedy and the umpires handed it to them. Mark my words they are trash. Not to excuse our pathetic effort today, but I'd love to play them in September, they are not a good football team.
  • What a [censored] team. Bunch of selwoods
  • Why would barrass run off Melksham? That was [censored]
  • We have some seriously dumb players.

West Coast supporters complaining about umpiring when they have a +7 free kick average, by far the best in the comp and get handed a few wins every season from the home cooking.

Their lack of self awareness is incredible.

Must say I don’t give a hoot about them. We won and beat a top two side .

Listening  to them booing was music to my ears. Their supporter base is quite fragile of mind.

I'll tell you one thing - they don't hate on the rubbish sides. They know we're good and they're running scared.  They'll be hoping and praying they don't get us come finals time.

Plenty of times we got our heads chopped, pushed in the back, HTB. Seriously they are the worst.

Fairly play though there were three critical decisions that went our way. Tyson should've been pinged for HTB on the goal line, and then got a lucky (but there) high contact, then OMac should've been pinged for HTB because he ducked his head but 20 seconds earlier the umpire didn't pay the same thing our way so I took that as a leveller.

We also got pinged for HTB with no prior a few times, an unrealistic attempt at a mark when WC did the same thing 1min earlier, and the Spargo HTM one should've just been play on as the WC player was driving straight into him preventing him from getting to the ball.

They won the free kick count, being awarded 30% more free kicks than we did. How could they complain about the umpiring?

Because they didn’t have 70% more like usual

They can go and suck the biggest pole going around too the inbred [censored]

WCE are the biggest over-achievers this year (even more than the Kangas). They'll get found out in September, and their supporters' know it too.

Maggots gonna maggot...but at least it felt like a finals like maggot performance where they swallowed thier whistle and paid only the obvious ones, the atrocious AVB decision aside

I dont GAF what these pearl-polishers think. We won fair and square.

Bring on September you try hard, wanna-be, home-town-hero, glue sniffing, disco-bikkie-munching, nose-snow [censored].

You play us in Melb during the finals and we will drill you a new sphincter.

And while we are at it, tell your fans to learn how to Boo when it is actually appropriate. Clowns.

Now where is my Johnnie Walker Green........................ *hic

How could an Eagles supporter complain about umpiring?  18-14 their way today.

Over the last 15 years they have received 919 free kicks with the nearest team North Melb  on 472.

Sydney are the umps less favourite with MINUS 516 frees for.  A difference of 1435.

The Demons sit in the middle on MINUS 164.

Wet Toast supporter base is white trash, they were the worst at booing Adam Goodes, WC supporters are uneducated, insular, uncivilised racist white trash......sooo frickin'  glad we monstered them

The West Coast sookie sookie la la las!

If umpiring was the major thing they took away from this game then I feel sorry for them . They got the better number of free kicks like always, and still couldn't get it done.

Maybe they should learn the game so they have something to dissect and learn from after each game. They don't hand out premiership cups for who wins the most frees each season!

If you want to get an idea of how utterly pathetic a fanbase the Eagles contingency is, go and check at Melbourne's Instagram stories. There is one where Nathan Jones is strolling over to give a kid a mini football after the win, and a degenerate Eagles supporter is booing him. Someone posted it on Bigfooty and sure enough the Eagles flogs over there were actually trying to justify it. They're a bunch of imbreds.

Thanks for showing us that Queanbeyan Dee.  Good for a laugh and to read the odd 'humble in defeat' post.  Let's rvisit next week if they tumble out of second spot.  That could be hilarious, but only if we win, of course.

  • FEATURE: 1925

A hundred years ago today, on 2 May 1925, Melbourne kicked off the new season with a 47 point victory over St Kilda to take top place on the VFL ladder after the opening round of the new season.  Top place was a relatively unknown position for the team then known as the “Fuchsias.” They had finished last in 1923 and rose by only one place in the following year although the final home and away round heralded a promise of things to come when they surprised the eventual premiers Essendon. That victory set the stage for more improvement and it came rapidly. In this series, I will tell the story of how the 1925 season unfolded for the Melbourne Football Club and how it made the VFL finals for the first time in a decade on the way to the ultimate triumph a year later.

  • PREVIEW: West Coast

Saturday’s election night game in Perth between the West Coast Eagles and Melbourne represents 18th vs 15th which makes it a tough decision as to which party to favour. The Eagles have yet to break the ice under their new coach in Andrew McQualter who is the second understudy in a row to confront Demon Coach Simon Goodwin who was also winless until a fortnight ago. On that basis, many punters might be considering to go with the donkey vote but I’ve been assigned with the task of helping readers to come to a considered opinion on this matter of vital importance across the nation. It was almost a year ago that I wrote a preview here of the Demons’ away game against the Eagles (under the name William from Waalitj because it was Indigenous Round).  I issued a warning that it was a danger game, based on my local knowledge that the home team were no longer easybeats and that they possessed a wunderkind generational player in Harley Reid who was capable of producing stellar performances playing among men a decade and more older than he.  At the time, the Eagles already had two wins off the back of a couple of the young man’s masterclasses and they had recently given the Bombers a scare straight after their Anzac Day blockbuster draw against the then reigning premiers.

  • NON-MFC: Round 08

Round 08 of the 2025 AFL Season kicks off on Thursday with a must-win game for the Bombers to stay in touch with the top eight, while the struggling Roos seek a morale-boosting upset. Friday sees the Saints desperate for a win as well if they are to stay in finals contention and their opponents the Dockers will be eager to crack in to the Top 8 with a win on the road. Saturday kicks off with a pivotal clash for both sides asthe Bulldogs look to solidify their top-eight spot, while Port seeks to shake their pretender tag. Then the Crows will be looking to steady their topsy turvy season against a resurgent Blues looking to make it 4 wins on the trot. On Election Night a Blockbuster will see the ladder-leading Pies take on the Cats, who are keen to bounce back after a narrow loss. On Sunday the Sydney Derby promises fireworks as the Giants aim to cement their top-eight status, while the Swans fight to keep their season alive. The Hawks, celebrating their centenary, will be looking to easily account for the Tigers who are desperate to halt their slide. The Round concludes on Sunday Night with a top end of the table QClash with significant ladder implications; both Queensland teams are in scintillating form. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • PREGAME: West Coast

The Demons hit the road in Round 8, heading to Perth to face the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium. With momentum building, the Dees will be aiming for a third straight victory to keep their season revival on course. Who comes in and who goes out?

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
