6  Gawn - What a presence. You knew he was on from first bounce.

5 Harmes - Unbelievable game and I am going to credit Saty for picking him out at training to me midway through his first year at club and saying he had potential. Saty does say that about almost every Dee he sees, but I have loved the way he plays since his first game and now he's getting the accolades.

4  Melky - Hands up if you feel confident when he gets it. I certainly do and those Essendon fans who used to tell me he was a turnover king are now eating their words.

3 Brayshaw - In everything and I would loved  to know how much ground he covered. The main reason why we are now a top-4 team and why we will meet WC in the preliminary final in four weeks time.

2 Salem - How controlled down back was he again. Love him.

1 Hannan/Kent - Both grabbed their chance and played games that will see them named in our first finals side since 2006. Confident with kicks and tackled like madmen.

What a pleasure doing this tonight.

Harmes - outstanding

Gawn - 12 kicks (twice bursting thru a pack) 8 handballs, 5 marks, 41 Hit outs

Melksham 4 goals and 2 goal assists

Brayshaw - 26 possessions and 10 tackles and went hatless in the desperate dying moments

Oliver - coined a new description best player in a telephone box, his ball handling is sublime

Hannan - went hard early like he wanted the ball

Apologies to Salem, Jones & T Mac a fine team effort

Stiff - Can't even explain why Oliver isn't in there. Also stiff - Jetta, Jones and good onya Frosty - hit targets. Lewis started horribly , but great in the second half.

Bugger.  Ten into six doesn't go!

  • THE STATS FILES: St. Kilda

As part of the effort to trim the runtime of the regular podcast, we’ve been looking at which segments could be reshaped without losing what makes them valuable. One segment that naturally came into focus was Binman’s Stats Files. Not because it isn’t important; quite the opposite. It’s become such a substantial and much-loved part of the show that it deserves a little room to breathe.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
