Great. Let's have 4 blokes tackle him, let the ball squeeze out and have 3 Richmond blokes on their own.

Hardly Ground Breaking thinking. It may work.

But how long has Martin been fending off like that with a free rein?

years

So what is your point?

I actually think the best way to counter Dusty is to not tackle him at all. Defend the space ahead of him and force him to the boundary

The only way to stop Martin is to starve him of it

the MFC have to hunt the ball themselves.

Don't know whether the reporter had his hand on it whilst watching or reporting this, it was one of the normal tackling drills they have been doing all pre season

Perhaps Goody doesn't think it's been good enough on game day

Plenty of resin on the hands, grab his fend off arm with both and snap it.

Yes!! Aim for his shoulder all game

Thankyou

By sweeping the fend arm to the side before it contacts you, it throws the balance off and you can tackle the body.  With the arm out of play, locking in the arm holding the ball and smashing the [censored] into the turf is the next objective.

you know he is going to fend, so practicing the counter should be part of the prep.

I asked Nev about this, said best method is to grab the arm, but because his godliness is allowed to fend off high it adds to the difficulty in perfecting the technique

Ground-breaking stuff.

No problem with the fend off.. it's when it goes for the throat or the head that it becomes interesting.

Never called as a free or worse. Technically neither is round the neck etc but it is a dangerous manouvre especially when directed at the throat.

I have been saying that for 2 years. Grab his wrist and pull towards you.

That was sensational.

As much as anything physical ...the dont argue  is a bit like a 'power handshake' in so much as its about owning your opponent. If you let him...he does. Viney owned HIM.

Anyone can if they want to and don't fall for the ruse.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
