Any selection inferences to be drawn, ie who did and didn’t play?

Bugg played today, as did Hannan and Pedersen.

The ones who didn't who were named on the Casey interchange on Friday were Hunt, Wagner, Fritsch, Garlett, Vince and Weideman.  I think I've got that right.

You would expect that Tyson is one inclusion while a few of the ones who didn't play today would be held over as emergencies for Tuesday night.

Pedo should have been playing for the MFC. Stupid non selection will cost us Tues night.

We will see how Weed goes.

I have it on good authority taht we will make 3 or 4 changes this week.

If today was a good example of the game plan we are trying to instill across the list then i hope he has a plan B.

And i'm not saying it was BZ....just saying

There is NO 'B' .. in MFC

Other than Pedo and Spargo, none of the Melbourne listed players showed much. JKH and some of the others who have been around a few years are pure list cloggers who are being kept around for contractual and emergency injury situations. Further culling of the list is needed as we severely lack class. We have far too few good kicks still after all these years somehow!

Casey seemed to try hard, but with a crowded forward line struggled to make the most of opportunities when going forward. Exactly the same as the AFL team, and it shows our gameplan does not work and needs to change.

And speed.......

I think Weide will play Tuesday,,, and I have the feeling TMC will play the following match against the bummers with Weide back at Casey.

there's no 'A', yet.   experimenting.  searching for the balance;   How can we have a set plan a or b,,, when we aren't yet settled Re best 22, as regulars.

Its too soon.

We will make finals without a real setup.  Just not in stone, yet.

We lost today's game because we got slaughtered n the ruck. Why we gave away Spencer for King and flip I will never know. They cannot cut it at VFL no  hope at senior level. tigers had 90% of first use. We were always trying to recover.

Cant really say i thought King was thrashed. I couldn't really see either team getting clean hands on the pill from rucking. It just seemed to me when they got the hand-off (sts) they found more air. They took a while to get going , Toiges ....(sounding familiar ) but they got tbeir defenders eadily plucking cherries and throwing the pill back their end...where..(again...deja vu ) we seemed a tad awkwardly slow.

Not much good to write home about. Pedersen played a good VFL forward game kicking 5 and clunking some good marks. Spargo showed a bit but thought he would have more zip than he showed today. Hannan was in and out of it. Baker did not impress me nor did any of the others. Worth noting that J Smith, T Smith and Balic as well as Hunt and Stretch did not play. That's a fair chunk of run missing from the side. Dion Johnstone looks a bust, I wonder if at some point they dont swing him back as a small defender before the season is done,

I liked when Hannan played wing - link man, going forward as needed.  Perhaps this is a role for him to develop into?

Not a great day at the office.

5 or 6 unanswered goals for us to start the game and then the Tiges for the rest of that quarter and the second quarter.

Better second half but we were unable to significantly impact the scoreboard and bridge the gap.

Hard to say who played well but certainly Pedersen, Spargo and Hannan impacted the game. Was it enough to demand selection...maybe for Pedersen and Hannan... depends how their equivalent plays on Tuesday night.

Although we lost it was not a thrashing. Overall they were physically stronger and taller.

I often wonder what coaches/tacticians look for in their VFL teams. Wins are nice but in reality it can come down to where you are with your list building, injuries and how much you spend on your back up players. If there is a worrying factor other than Pedersen (and ignoring this years draftees) no one really put up their hand and said pick me. Much the same can be said about the previous games as well.

That is spot on gents

And a big man or two who can take a few crucial clunkers around the ground to hold up play at times and try and wrestle back momentum.

We also lack a general up forward and down back to hit in hard, finish off some good play (up forward) and a voice out on the ground that lets our less experienced guys know we are in the contest and not going away like we did last week.

Keilty pretty bummed out after the game, copped a fair wack from the Coach.

He got to a lot of contests I thought, just needs to make more of an impact.

I didn't think he had a remarkable day...but youd want to think there was a fair few in line before the coach got to him ;)

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
