Bet you're looking forward to watching the Saints V Crows in Adelaide tonight

Saints 1 Friday 1 Saturday night already on 7

Who does Gil barrack for again ?

No one will be watching especially after Saints debacle last Friday.  They should be showing the Syd vs GWS game.  I know which I would prefer to watch tonight!

I see the AFL is looking to give Good Friday to one of the big drawing clubs.  As if Rich, Ess, Coll, Carl, don't have enough blockbuster or stand alone Thurs and Fri night games as it is!  So the big get bigger and ...

Having said that the game last week was appalling and something needs to change.  But Good Friday shouldn't just default to big clubs.  Perhaps, two of the prior years top 8 Vic sides to make it a bit fairer and a better chance of a decent spectacle.

Only watched the game on TV so my analysis may be flawed - but I have to agree with the general sentiment the game was of a fairly low standard from a tv spectacle for me.

Sadly, the highlight of the game was the regular crowd shots that gave me a bit of a chuckle - both sides have more than their fair share of weird looking supporters.

On the Demonland podcast chat room the other night @Deeoldfart suggested the Good Friday game should be a grand final replay. Would that work?

Yes, altho' I have a feeling the AFL want the Good Friday game between Vic clubs to help the Children's Hospital Appeal.

Having said that any idea that avoids automatic 'blockbuster or premium time slot' games given to big or under performing clubs is worthy of discussion.

Dees have had 3 friday night games in the last 4 seasons (inc port away this year)

How many have carlton had? Loads.

Have we won more games than they have in that time? Probably

Get [censored] afl

Can’t throw the meat of the blame on the AFL for this one. The fault is with Channel 7 who only want the big rating clubs playing in prime time. It’s all about advertisng and money.

Channel 7 is its own worst enemy.

It thinks its ratings come from the supporters of the club whereas in truth the ratings come from football followers.

Other than the interest in watching a train wreck who wanted to watch 16th play 17th.

Even worse is tonight's game...Adelaide v Saints when every football follower bar a few Saints supporters wants to watch the big game between GWS and Sydney

Gee that [censored] cellar dweller team that it was an embarrassment to only beat by 26 points on their soil are taking it up to a VERY good team without their skipper.

Maybe our win last week wasn't so bad after all.

It's also further proof of how even this competition can be.  Unless you're a real powerhouse side, then belting teams is a thing of the past.

The Lions were also missing Beams, arguably their best player (or in their Top 3 best players) and they almost got over the line.

Gold Coa$t selling a home game to Freo in W.A.

Why does the AFL need to do that?

lambs to the slaughter, Freo with a massive advantage

that stinks

Port Adelaide usually thump bad sides so for Brisbane to steady after that big run of goals and not even concede one goal in the fourth must have been a massive effort. Maybe Brisbane is actually a bit better than we might have given them credit for? Or maybe the competition is just more even and Port had an off day.

Yes sure. But there are other stadiums in QLD that could have been readied for an AFL Game.

Freo get a (home) game and $1mill from what i heard. Not sure whether the figure is right, but the advantage sure is

The praising McCartin for basic simple things is so cringeworthy. He received a handball standing still and then handballed, and that was “really good.”

They do it every week.

I reckon it helps their list management SWYL,  in Dew's first season.

The coasters will start to improve IMO in 2019, & more in 2020, which will be imperative for Dew's career.

So this season is the best for list management. to add more quality into the Dew mold of football.

I wonder if Lynch will go.

Or 2Mtr Peter (trade),  So they can add some more tough and mature leadership for their onfield progress.

Their culture has to change, and outside top line leaders brought in is the best way for a young club, to do this.

... change the culture or die a slow painful demise, further on into the future.

St Kilda are clueless at the moment. Nothing special from the Crows tonight, just very clean with skills.

Just goes to show how little influence he has on games that these things are being praised.  Seems like a nice bloke and people are keen to see him do some good things after all he's been through, but he really brings very little to the table.

Just on the Saints - they look like a bottom 4 side at the moment.  Richardson is now in his 5th year in charge; is he in some strife?  They were VERY lucky to get over the Lions, they were total poo against Norf and, while they've had a dip tonight, they've been totally outclassed again.  Surely the pressure is right on him now.

Pathetic looking crowd at the St Kilda game.

And yet they have three Friday night games to come, plus they get a total of 13 games at Etihad (two more than we get at the G).

Despite finishing a game and 10% behind us last year,

Despite their average home crowd last year being 4,000 smaller than us (and our figure was dragged down by the two NT games).

They look like a bottom 4 side.

Watching most Adelaide games over recent years, this has been one of their least impressive games. And they’re doing it easily.

Saints just play horrible football. Exciting when their pressure is up and it’s manic... but they simply can’t keep that up and have little skills when it comes to plan B.

They need a Petracca type. *sniggers*

True. I think we have a bit more individual brilliance that helps. They have Jack Steven and... yeah Jack Steven.

Remember when Carlisle said “this club is f’ked” at Essendon. Wonder what he’s thinking about this one.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
