We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

I would really like to know how many second quarters we have lost/gone to sleep/not turned up......it seems a thing over the last 2 years and i would like to know an actual number and what is possibly the cause..ie is it a purpose wind down in order to run out the game or what??

The pace of the game was amazing for round 1. Was like a final from 10 years ago.

that 50m penalty he gave away in the 2nd killed us. he mouthed off to the umpire about the decision he knows better

Agreed. Pathetic leadership from a player who is there for the money and nothing else. Some sort of leader he is!

The frustrating thing is I already know we can match Geelong, so I can't take any positives from just running them close.

Every concern I had from last year was only amplified today. The mental demons are still there.

Can't question the effort. Can question the terrible decision making. Constant bombing forward to outnumbered contests. Defenders all flying for the same ball and none staying down.

We bullied Geelong in every way today and still managed to lose. Embarrassing to lose that one. We are a far better team than them now and we need to start playing like it.

I dont know the number. If its not the 2nd quarter, its us being asleep for the first 15 mins.

Its an all too common problem.

We played Geelong's weakened best 19 fit players and were found short.

Optimists around here need to take note about how we play under pressure.

I will stick with my 13 to 15 win season and we limp in around 6th to 8th to play finals. Making up the numbers.

I will be happy to go to games like today and win a few and lose a few.

Don't expect better sides to let us off so lightly.

Our backline is full of holes that will not be plugged and we have to play some aging players who are simply better than their immediate substitutes.

I coach with 1 year under his belt and a my way or the highway style is not ready to take us any further for a few years yet.

Agreed. Sure he’ll get suspended but that’s how you make a stand, not giving away a 50 for mouthing off like an idiot.

Our leadership continues to be a problem. Jones was good, but FMD our senior players have no idea. Jetta was good as always and I don’t know why he isn’t in the leadership team. More of a leader than Lewis!

I flew down for the game, am absolutely gutted, Gawn needs to fly with two hands, Maynard and Wagner are not AFL level footballers, there was none of our pressure today, Geelong just did what they wanted from kick outs today.  You better turn up next week MFC the Lions are no easy beats.

lol THAT is why you are so angry after a loss....

Figures.

Enjoy the trip home.

Thought he had a better overall game, and loved his toughness today Bernie.

Lewis started having an impact when he was moved to being the sweeper in defence. Lever needs to learn how to better play on his direct opponent. They exploited the cr@p out of him today.

How was the zone working today? In the first half they had so much space it looked like we were zoning off everyone. Having said that some of the wrist slashing is over the top.

We still fumble so much and panic when tackled.

On the other hand Geelong often got hands clear and were clean with the ball.

We also run over the ball far too often when it’s on the ground.

Agree about over running the ball. It compounds too, as we normally have more than one culprit in the pack at once that does it.

Our whole defence had a poor game. Jetta had a rare bad game. Lever was poor. Wagner was horrific. O Mac got outbodied repeatedly. Both Hunt and Hibberd lacked their usual spark. Salem played more midfield but had a shocker, potentially due to that big fall in the first half.

Our mid/small forward were shocking too. Jeffy and Hannan barely got involved bar 2 minute cameos. Nibblers output was well down. Harmes had a good second half but was missing in the first half. Oliver and Petracca rotating down there were our most dangerous options, but we need them in the middle to get it down there in the first place!

Petracca, Oliver, Jones, Hogan and Gawn all had a dip, even if they weren't super clean.

Jury is still very much out on Goodwin's coaching ability. How does he allow these continual lapses in effort? Whatever he's trying to get them to do is not working good enough for long enough.

Suspended? Are you talking about the incident when Vince had the ball and steamrolled the Cats player in our defensive 50 in the 3rd?

I thought Oscar was good considering their forward dominance. Hawkins with 1 goals, I’ll take that!

The defensive setup was garbage until the last. Why was Melksham there instead of forward where he excels? Why was Wagner selected?

Lever had an absolute stinker of a game and he would want to improve quick smart. If he can’t play on a man he’s a dime a dozen loose defender.

Our midfield was good but the forward 50 entires were awful and we played Garlett Hannan and Frisch in the same team, which is a big no from me.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
