Either CHF or CHB or FB or FF depending upon our key position players and who performs and also maybe as a swing and versatile key. Lets just hope he can overcome his injury if not in 2020 but ASAP. Sorry, poorly written. I meant playing Petty back would release Tomlinson onto a wing. 2 Quote
DeeSpencer 26,692 Posted August 16, 2020 Posted August 16, 2020 After his first few VFL games I thought he'd be a very good defender but he did have a habit of taking front position and getting worked under it if not marking and is a bit one paced. But I was pleasantly surprised by his forward stuff last year. Either way there's certainly a spot for him and I'd like to have him locked away for at least another year soon. Also I've haven't watched the injury updates lately, has Burgo provided any kind of time frame? 3 Quote
Ham 741 Posted August 16, 2020 Posted August 16, 2020 Would absolutely relish seeing him at CHB, we are screaming for another genuine 20-22 year old key back. 2 Quote

Will be Key position back or forward As much as I love jackson and I recognise how good he'll become as a ruck, he's kicked 3 goals in 6 games. Petty kicked 3 goals in 1 game. recency bias 1 1 Quote

Of course Petty if at CHF or FF full time will kick more goals than Jacko but how many Jacko gets AND score involvements May not differ a great deal in total. 1 Quote

The AFL hierarchy is the one advocating for smaller list sizes to reduce the tpp given that for months have passed since I wrote that I still think the bottom six is about right 1 Quote

Vipercrunch 2,864 Posted August 17, 2020 Posted August 17, 2020 North Melbourne currently have 17 players out injured. 35-17=18.... I hope the AFL realise that would be a bad decision BEFORE they make it, not afterwards which is the norm. 1 Quote

Pickett2Jackson 3,904 Posted May 2, 2021 Posted May 2, 2021 With Tomlinson out for the season it is now Pettys time to shine. Huge opportunity with a defined role and a block of games to sink or swim. Had a taste a few weeks ago against Hawthorn and was good in the 2nd half. The whole team was junk in the first half so I will cut him some slack for his shaky start in that game. 2 Quote
Pickett2Jackson 3,904 Posted May 21, 2021 Posted May 21, 2021 Nice footage from 'On The Couch' of Petty. Promising signs! Starts at 5:20 Quote
FarNorthernD 5,863 Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 Nice article on Harrison Petty. You’d think the eventual heir apparent to Steven May’s spot. In the meantime doing a brilliant as the third wheel. Has really good hands https://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/1007940/the-third-wheel-back-up-backman-playing-his-role 3 Quote
Diamond_Jim 12,778 Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 Thinking that Petty could be the answer to Weideman leaving (assuming he does) and if T Mac does not recover form. 1 Quote
tiers 2,883 Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 Leave him alone for now. He does his job with aplomb and carries out the role he is given to the letter. One week at a time. Go dees. 7 Quote
Cards13 9,117 Posted August 25, 2021 Posted August 25, 2021 Well done H Petty! Composed and getting better in the body on body contests (still needs work) and so good by footy. No Frost ball here! 1 1 Quote

Composed and getting better in the body on body contests (still needs work) and so good by footy. No Frost ball here! I think that is the thing that I am most excited about. He has plenty of time to develop physically. All kids do, and he is no different. While he's been beaten in body contests (Darcy Fogarty comes to mind), I was always confident he'd get better. However, it was his kicking and decision making early in the piece that got me worried, especially against Hawthorn early in the year. However, having Lever and May directing traffic has been amazing for his development. Having Choco guiding him has no doubt helped immeasurably. Edited August 25, 2021 by Colin B. Flaubert Quote
Neil Crompton 5,852 Posted August 27, 2021 Posted August 27, 2021 When Tomlinson is fit again, some posters have stated that they’d like Petty to take on the CHF role, assuming that Tomo will take his CHB role. I think that when Tomo is fit, Tomo is the one that had better find another role to play, because the way Petty has developed, there is no way I’d consider moving him from CHB. 1 Quote
Nelo 813 Posted August 27, 2021 Posted August 27, 2021 Always been a huge Petty fan and he hasn't disappointed. Huge future with the dees, he just needed a good run with injuries. Quote
spirit of norm smith 16,680 Posted August 29, 2021 Posted August 29, 2021 Come the moment. Cometh the man. We all shed a tear for Adam Tomlinson. Footy is a cruel master. But thankfully Petty has stepped up and into the key position void. After 11 games in 3 years (nil through injury in 2020), Petty has played 17 games in 2021 and not disappointed. He seems to be more assured as the year progresses. It’s a key role too alongside Lever and May. Petty is becoming the player that he was drafted as. A young key position back with good marking and size to play the key position forwards. Keep on going young man. 1 1 Quote

Great to see that when May and Lever were both off the ground Petty took the role of backline general on himself. I also enjoyed Gawn coaching from the bench. Important to never stop playing your role. 2 1 Quote
