Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I thought you were joking but your serious. He was very promising last year and injured this year. No way should he be delisted. I think he would be in our best 22 ahead of Smith if he was fully fit. He's a keeper unless there was a suitable trade for him.

It depends on what the AFL does with list sizes. If clubs need to cut list sizes down due to the financial impact of COVID19, then we may need to clear out 10-15 players. If that's the case, Petty is gone. Anyone who is out of contract and isn't a star would be out the down, as we wouldn't be able to afford to pay out others instead.

I like Petty and think he could be a decent player given time. He showed a bit up forward as a marking target, though his kicking for goal left something to be desired. His fate may be decided by COVID19 fallout.

Petty will be a good AFL player. I could 15 delist ahead of him.

I agree he could be a good player and I'd rather delist others. We're crying out for strong marking talls and he fits that need.

However, if we're forced to cut our list size considerably due to COVID19 we won't be able to afford to payout others to sign injured players. I'd rather persist with him, but the unfortunate financial reality is he may get the chop come years end.

They won't cut lists too dramatically, maybe only a couple and Petty is absolutely safe.

I know it has been raised that lists may be cut to as few as 35 next year i.e. your mooted 10-15 player cut, but I don't think the AFL will be able to achieve this without some clubs needing to delist contracted players and as you say that will be a last resort.

According to @Lucifer's Hero list we have 22 including Rookies out of contract at the end of the year:

Not that I'd be happy, but I can see 13 or 14 I'd delist ahead Petty and at least 4 in the 2021 expiry list.

Hopefully it doesn't come to that and the AFL reduces lists to maybe 40 total overall and we only need to delist 10 or so.

it seems like 35 is going to be too deep for some clubs franchises (e.g. gold coast) to get down to, so 40 might be an okay number including both full list and rookie list (not that there seems to be much differentiation these days between the two)

given that the minimum amount of draft picks used is likely to drop to two, i'd say that'd be seven off our list before any trading even takes place

likely candidates:

  • nathan jones (retirement?)
  • charlie spargo
  • toby bedford
  • michael hibberd (retirement?)
  • kade kolodjashnij
  • aaron neitschke
  • oskar baker
  • marty hore
  • kade chandler
  • corey wagner
  • josh wagner
  • austin bradtke

that's twelve - personally of the seven who'd go i'd nominate:

  • kade kolodjashnij
  • aaron neitschke
  • oskar baker
  • kade chandler
  • corey wagner
  • josh wagner

as six likely certainties, then it comes down to what the decision is retaining experience (jones and hibberd) vs height (bradtke) and smalls (spargo, bedford, chandler)

Could force his way in down back instead of Tomlinson or Omac.

Looked ok as a fwd last year, but he'd be well behind a fit & in form Weid / Jackson combo. Maybe down back as you suggest. Given May's age might be sensible to groom him for the backline.

He grew up as a backman. I wonder if it’s worth him being our second key back ? Would make Lever’s job even easier too.

He also had a bit of niggle about him too which is appealing.

He showed something up forward in 2019.  Nice and mobile, presented & seemed to time his leads well.  Strong overhead mark with courage coming across in front of packs.  Decent kick for goal even from a fair way out.  I'd be getting him up and setting him for a big 2021 with a view to over taking T-Mac in 2021+

Gee we could use him this season as an option but not to be this year, a real shame.

I'd delist weideman and Brown before Petty who will be stronger and has shown a bit more in his total games. and can play both ends.

Oofa doof. This has aged well.

As for those calling for Petty to be delisted, I completely disagree. Future CHB. He was played forward, but his intercept work in defence as an underager is what saw him find his way onto our list.

When he gets his body together, I reckon he'll eventually take that spot Tomlinson's playing at the moment, which will release him onto the wing.

not sure of where Petty will end up but not on a wing !!!

Either CHF or CHB or FB or FF depending upon our key position players and who performs and also maybe as a swing and versatile key.

Lets just hope he  can overcome his injury if not in 2020 but ASAP.

hello? clearly he takes McDonald's role. Probably even takes Jackson's role. Petty showed more as a forward than Jackson but people have [censored] memories.

Won't replace Jacko As both are very different types of player NO ONE plays like Luke he is a freak and a complete X factor on ball and up forward as a floater.

Will be Key position back or forward

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
