In that case we are taking a big risk.

We are paying big money for a player who has a poor record for serious injury.

Over the journey he has not shown he is worth being among the top few players pay wise.

All well and good to take a shot but realistically what would you do?

You are clearly incapable of being able to separate getting Lever and being able to judge whether it was a good deal or not.

You are like someone who buys a car from a dealer for $10,000 when you only have $1000 because he offers you finance and you only have to start paying next year. Then next year comes and you're in shock when the first bill comes. The fact is we were always getting Lever, they just gave in and gave away our first rounder next year. Calling people bleating and others babies because they are capable of seeing the difference doesn't reflect on us it reflects on you. Shame people can't express different opinions on this forum without others resorting to denegration when they don't agree.

Caller stated that Jordan Lewis “Gave us nothing”

was it someone on here?

Most likely someone from here.

We gave up nothing - 9 spots in the third round and 2 spots in the fourth round of the draft - for someone who finsihed equal 3rd in our B&F and who oozes leadership.

It's staggering that some supporters feel this way.

No, he's like someone that just bought a $10k car for $11k.  Paid more than what redbook estimated it at, but got the deal done nonetheless.

And to keep the car analogy going, have a look on redbook, then have a look on carsales.  There are many cars sold on carsales where the buyer paid more than what redbook suggests.  I'm sure both buyer and seller are happy in that case.

You need to get over it.

did you know Carsales own Redbook?

The club could have negotiated harder on lever and pick 31 for watts is unders.

No reason why we can’t expect the best from the recruiting staff...

With 1 team interested? Not many chips to play with getting a better pick for Wattsy Bandi..

Why r we looking at a new base? Is our current one not suiting our needs?

Must admit, I was wondering the same thing.  Being from out 'o town, I kinda thought we had a pretty good set up these days, with a training field at Gosch's Paddock, and State of the Art gym etc shared with the Storm and a soccer team, just a hop, step and jump from the MCG.  Yet, Peter Jackson in his interview seemed to say that we are the only club to not have new, wonderful facilities.  What am I missing here?

Well....We're sharing it with 3 clubs for a start so theres no real club  "identity" there and we have to slot in around all the timetables. The offices are all still at the MCG which is a nightmare in terms of practicality , theres no social club and it attracts no supporter base close by. If you want to get any kind of comparison go check out what the pies have built, what adelaide , west coast, Geelong, Fremantle, Richmond ( insert any club) already have!  Stkilda not so much but they will also have an amazing set up in a couple of years back at morrabin....we are quiet simply miles behind in this area. I was happy to hear  that it was being addressed at board level and will be super happy when / if we finally cross that threshold!!!

At a guess it could be to do with sharing the facilities I suppose.

Would like to know the reasoning behind it tbh.

That is actually a great option. Vic park is their spiritual home, will never be built over, they play their VFL games and has infrastructure to build on. Plus it would be a great resource for a booming area in the way Arden Street is (eg public gym, community activity spaces, local sporting groups etc) The state and yarra governments would probably even chip in.

We move into the old glass house precinct, smack bang in the middle of our our spiritual home the MCG and surrounding parkland. And we a beaut spot for pre and post training and games beers

Both clubs win.

It is a great option. Makes total sense. Should be done but unlikely to be. They just opened a brand new $30mill training and social/function facility adjacent to the Glass House and overlooking the Olympic Park oval. The function centre is a revenue maker.

We blew our chance on this one over 10 years ago when it was offered to us and we knocked it back saying we couldn't afford the $10mill fit out and Eddie jumped in and sold the naming rights to Lexus for an upfront fee of $10mill which covered the redevelopment costs. I hate to have to say Hats off to him.

Interesting about the new HQ.

Docklands is out of the question too much a green field site.

Stake Holders ie Council and State Government has a big say in what is available.

PJ said they are looking for a CBD site close to The "G"

Now unless it is The "G" or a redeevlopment of Yarra Park to incorporate a new training, Gym and Social facility, I cant think of any CBD site close to the "G" that could handle it

I read something a while ago that there are discussions going on with the MCC about setting up training and FD facilities in the redeveloped Great Southern Stand which is going to happen soon. Apparently there is enough space under it that it could be accommodated there. It could have an MCC and maybe community aspect to it. Otherwise mentioning being close to CBD surely could only mean something over the rail yards. Eddie's suggestion for doing this seemed to receive favourable feedback from the Govt.

Make a good offer now but not excessive and then if does not take it wait till June.

if he leaves we would get a good first round pick as compensation.

Ruckman are not the vital element they once were.

What he said.

And PJ for that matter. We are at a huge disadvantage. Look at what the tigers have at Punt road. Punt Road plays a huge role in that club - it is their foundation and is a big part of their identity .

I suspect the Lexus center does not work for the pies and Vic park would be much better. Where would pies fan go if they won a flag (shudder). I suspect Vic park not that rather soulless place they have now. Would work great for us though. The practice match and VFL game there i saw was terrific. It would be perfect for us

We don't know the details. Maybe its performance based? Or based on number of games played?

As well as we did when Max was out of the team this year we are a better side when he is playing well. His best is pretty dominant and gives our mids good use of the pill...

Not at my age chap, been down that path

Sit back now and watch the new breed of manager trying to explain a business decision, when they have no idea what they are taling about because the have been parachuted in, without a good grounding in exactly what is required, and try not to laugh out loud

Roos and PJ are on the same page as far as this goes, get the person in and 'teach' them for a couple of years, PJ will ensure we have the right people both on and off the field

Purely guessing, but when stakeholders are mentioned, that means we have to convince government.....Now apart from the railyards being covered, and the reality of the MCG not being available for cricket season, the only piece of land close by is where we currently train i.e. Gosh's paddock.  Could we be trying to get something built there, that we don't have to share and can house club offices as well?

As expected, a fair amount of time spent on the Jack Watts trade. Here's a few points:

-

- There was only 1 club seriously interested in him, and that was PA. Geelong's offer would have made the supporters livid. And based on his football record to date, we couldn't expect a 1st round pick.

- We are paying about 15% of his contract over 2 years, which works out to $75,000 per year. Suggested that the deal wouldn't have got done without that.

Audio here: https://player.whooshkaa.com/episode/?id=149541

He was stronger than the above on Watts. He said only 1 club interested, then followed up with "...that tells you something..."

What about turning one of the current MCG car parks into an oval? I suspect (have nothing to back that up but a gut feel as they tend to be closed a fare part of the AFL season) those car parks will not be around for much longer.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full
