Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Who is going onto the Banner?

What about one position vacant each match day for a mystery pick by all after the round (with a time limit ,of course)....

Don't knoiw much about the amount of work time or effort that goes into editing the banner,   but this is a good idea worth thinking about.

As another thought    what about a random change with a past player being seen on the banner   Barrassi,  Robbie, Greg Parkes, Ray Biffen, Crackers,  Jacko,     what an assortment of goodies  !!

I was actually thinking about this this morning.

I will be changing the banner soon.

I'm not sure whether Lever gets a guernsey so soon.

No.

Only put players up who are killing it for the Dees. Not before.

The banner does not have to be full.  But has to have integrity to the cause.

Watts never deserved to be there. One season in 9, is a disgrace, and should not earn a spot up in lights.

potential should not be highlighted, until after it bears fruit.

No.

He gets in on merit.

It's not often that I choose to argue the point with people on this forum (too many big egos), however in this case I shall.

i can't remember an aboriginal player being represented on the banner ( if I'm incorrect I apologise, I can't of the top of my head remember every banner)) so I believe their contribution should be recognised. Now in my opinion that recognition should take the form this coming season of one of the teams very best players I.e. Neville Jetta. Even if Jetta was one of the teams journeymen I think it would be appropriate to have him or another player from the aboriginal community represented. It is a symbolic gesture and one that I believe would be appreciated by many people in the aboriginal (and wider) community: It represents inclusiveness.

If your sole criterion is merit, then Neville Jetta gets in. If the banner represented a broader view then he gets in for the above reasons as well. But of course merit was not the only factor driving who did or didn't get chosen for last seasons banner was it!

A day has passed since Jack Watts left the Club yet he remains on the Demonland Banner. Surely Jake Lever or Michael Hibberd or Clayton Oliver loom as the replacement? Who is it to be (and when)?

(Not sure how to do a poll.) ?

Race should have zero to do with it.

Same as Gender.

But it does, and it has through history. Ask an aboriginal player about race and you'll get a different answer.

Yes history shows that it has mattered, if you want to promote a change in this then of the whole MFC you put up players who have had a good year or we sponsor etc etc.

Nev should be there not because he is Aboriginal, but because he had a cracking year. Same as Oliver, Hibberd, Daisy, all had great years for the MFC and prob deserve a spot on the banner.

If you add a player simply due to race then we need a much bigger banner as why have an Aboriginal over some one with Italian background and so on.

I understand and what you are trying to say, but for us as a society to move on we need to see all players (people) as equal.

If Jetta, Garlett and JKH have great seasons next year then all 3 would deserve a spot. I’m against tokenism.

Different reason, but weren't Wagner and Hunt originally put on the banner not because of merit? Could also be argued the Watts didn't deserve a spot. Or that Daisy isn't as good a player in her own right as the others. I don't think Nev should get on only because he's Aboriginal, I believe he should be there on playing merit (tick) and for his support of players coming from indigenous backgrounds (tick).

If it's only on merit over the previous season I'd argue about 5 currently on the banner should be removed. Surely there is room for more than playing merit as selection criteria.

I've said this before but I created this site and in turn the banner as a fan. Who am I to be the arbiter of who "deserves" a spot? I'm simply a fan who puts on players I like or are popular at the time. I may choose them because I think they had a good year or because I sponsor them or because I've got a good photo of them facing the right way in the right pose. I know there will be criticism no matter who I ultimately choose and I do take all suggestions into consideration. Understand that sometimes players are left out because of the silliest of reasons and is not necessarily because of form, being deserving and certainly not to fill quotas of gender or ethnicity. The last would be insulting to the players especially if they were included for those reasons.

Well said Daisy got my vote not because of gender but because ee are a club AFL, AFLA & VFL. Daisy is a great representative on field and off. Jetta is in the same boat and he is an absolute champion of the club

Make 4 or 5 banners, capturing all players (I’ll admit to having no idea how difficult this is) and cycle them over the year rather than having a single dedicated banner.

If not, I vote for Pedersen to be given a guernsey.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
