Another off season begins.

PORT Adelaide ruckman Paddy Ryder has been charged with assault following an incident outside an Adelaide nightclub.

The Power released a statement confirming the All Australian was involved in an incident with his younger brother and cousin at a club in Hindley Street on Sunday morning.

He has also been charged with hindering police.

"Ryder met with club officials this morning to express his disappointment and regret for involving himself in an incident which primarily concerned his brother," a Port Adelaide statement said.

Ryder was released on bail and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on November 15.

"Ryder, 29, was arrested by police, who allege he assaulted officers and hindered them making an arrest".

On the face of it doesn't sound good.

Let's hope our lot stay out of strife this off season.

He could claim that he was under the influence of a side effect from the The whatever it took campaign and has no personal recollection or understanding of the incident.

Perhaps the respected issuer of the Norm Smith medal could provide some assistance with records that supplements produce such effects

But does he want to win a Premiership or just be an AFL player?

Depending on the answer to the above question, Uncle Kosh may save him.

A Port player got arrested, culture breads culture I guess!

Most media have said that Ryder was protecting his brother/defending himself. But for an AFL player to be on Hindley St at 1am is poor form, even in off season.

Surely players can go wherever they want at whatever time they want in the offseason. It is their holidays.

I have never heard of, or been to Hindley Street, but if it is bad as you hint perhaps the police should worry about it.

2 sides of the coin. Its off season and he is allowed to enjoy himself.

Flipside: A professional would never be in the situtation where assualting anyone, let alone a cop, at 1am outside a nightclub is a possibility.

Absolutely. If he was out at a park or a resturaunt etc - no issues at all. But being outside a nightclub at 1am, where you KNOW there is going to be people that are intoxicated just wanting to have a go is asking for trouble. Protecting a family member is one thing, assualting a cop is another.

That being said, until he is actually sentenced its all hearsay.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
