Why do people email the club? Doesn't make a lick of difference. Might make you feel better but they don't give a stuff.

I don't think it hurts for members to give their opinions Wise.

what is the down side?

Conversely, what's the upside? That next time they make a tough decision they'll go 'hold on, remember that email we got?'

They are welcome to give their opinion, but they are also welcome to look silly while doing so.

Assuming the club had followed your hypotheticals to the letter: how would the outcome be materially different?

To hypothetically answer your question on my hypothetical suggestions:cool::

The differences:

- we may have got better trade value either pick swap or $ saving.

- Its very rare to hear home truths about one of your own spoken so harshly - our leaders would have come across as being more gracious.

-It would have been a lot easier for the rank and file members to accept Jack's departure, if they didn't hear our leaders regularly malign him in the last 5/6 weeks.

Are they 'material'?  I don't know.  Its exceptionally rare for me to criticise a player who wears our colours, even on an anonymous forum such as this.  So I don't like it when our coach, captain and football manager engage in that.  Not nice.

In a nut-shell. But as I've maintained while critisising Jack in the past, I don't consider his particular on-field traits as a mental weakness or personality flaw. In his own way, he's probably more well-rounded than the majority of footy-players, supporters, and the general public. But an admirable philosophy on life-work balance doesn't win flags. Potentially deranged individuals like Jack Viney win flags.

I don't think that's necessarily true, nor is Jack's approach wrong. There are plenty of players with 2 or 3 kids who would consider their family as the no.1 thing in their life and can still manage to give 100% intensity. It's all about the focus and bringing that intensity when required. Unfortunately for Jack, he's never been an aggressive player and for a coach who's asking for a fierce competitor he doesn't fit the bill. He can still be a very useful player in the right team with enough competitive beasts to allow him to add that layer of polish.

So we finally have clarity on @Maple Demon's odd interest in our lowly, far-flung aerial volleyball club?

Good get!  If so Jack was right, she would keep him on his toes!

She even kept Uncle Bitters, Biffen and a few others in the The No T$ No B$ Thread on their toes!!

A very good value poster I thought.

I gazed into my Pink Soup and for the last couple of pages i noticed the clarity of thought. Old Bob stuck around though as is his want. A good man in the trenches. We move onwards, only faster now..........

Watts the address ! Mahoney Goodwin and co need to be held to acccount ! Lack of performance against 5th in the b&f last year and 6th this year before the hammy leaves a very bitter and upset taste in my mouth against draft pick 31 - oh and we pay some of his salary negotiated a year ago. please !!!!

My view:

I don't see it as we are constrained by the available picks of the suitor clubs. We can't force Port to give (eg) pick 20 if they don't have it. Moreover, they are going to be swayed more by their own assessment of JW than by public utterances of football managers, player managers, and supporters

Yes. On the other hand we are constantly told of the blandness of modern footy-speak. (You have mastered it yourself in your "straight bat" dialogue!) One could mount a case that it was refreshing to hear the unvarnished truth.

I don't see how some more carefully worded utterances would have affected anything except a few less pearls being clutched.

I think a lot of the maligning was actually done by our rank and filers who projected more than what was actually said back on to our leaders.

And again, no material difference.

By pre-season, everyone's expectations will be re-set, and in the lead up to the season there will be bugger all talk of JW (unless we are looking in diabolical form).

Have I introduced you to my mate @grey wolf yet willmoy? I feel like you guys would hit it off for some reason. Unfortunately our other friend @Deeluded was a gateway victim and won't be able to join us I'm afraid.

I just want to highlight players that were around before the Roos era who were traded/delisted etc and the outcomes of them since leaving the club.

2013
Delisted - Tynan, Sellar, Davis, Gillies, Couch, Magner, Stark, Taggert - None playing

2014
Traded - Mitch Clark - Retired, no impact
Delisted - Blease, Strauss, Westrup, Nicholson, Clisby, Georgiou, Tapscott - None Playing

2015
Traded - Jeremy Howe - ok, Toumpas - no impact, Fitzpatrick - no impact
Delisted - Bail, Mckenzie, Riley, Michie - None Playing

2016
Traded - Dunn - ok
Delisted - Grimes, Jones, Terlich, Dawes, Michie, Newton - None Playing

2017
....

I would argue of every single trade or delisting has been 100% spot on.  I see Jeremy Howe being the only one that would be in our best 30 players now.

Am I concerned about Watts leaving and it coming back to bite us?  Not one little bit.  100% trust in this administration.  Could it have been handled better?  Probably.  In my experience, relationship break ups are hard and there are often things said and done that could be done better.  No different here.  But, rest assured, this is better for the MFC.

Hope your right because they need to be held to account. Easy for teachers to blame the pupil -1 hasn't worked that well for Buckley !!!

Hey willmoy. What's your favourite flavour from the Daintree Ice Cream Company? I can't get enough of their wattle-seed personally. Or do you prefer that other mob up the road?

Well what a fantastic result.

Something for everyone for so many different reasons.

Goodwin V Hinckley now looms as an added aside to the actual game.

LIVE AND LET DIE by Meggs

The Demons’ impressive late season charge to finals will most likely come unstuck this Saturday evening when the Bombers blow up the also-ran Blues in the Ikon Park double-header.   To mangle McCartney, what does it matter to ya? To have any chance to play next week Narrm has got a job to do and needs to do it well.  We’ve got to give the Pie sheilas hell, say live and let die! It’s Indigenous Round for this game and the chance to celebrate and engage with Aboriginal and Torres

Failed to fulfill the promise of his breakout six goal effort against the Tigers in 2023 and was generally disappointing as a key forward. It remains to be seen whether Simon Goodwin will persevere with him in attack or return him to the backline where he was an important cog in the club’s 2021 premiership success. Sadly, had to wrap up a great career in midstream on the back of multiple concussions which culminated in the Maynard hit in the 2023 Qualifying Final. His loss to the club was inestimable over and above his on field talent given his character and leadership qualities, all of which have been sorely missed. The son of former Demon Brownlow Medalist Shane, Taj added a further 16 games to his overall tally of games but a number were as substitute.
