What difference would have it made if all the players & coaching staff were at the presser?

Are we expecting to hear a spanish inquisition?

Strong clubs will deal with it internally & let the list mgt &  trade deals etc do the talking!

Im just as gutted & [censored] off @ the players & the leadership group of what occurred in the game vs the Pies...

I actually don't want words. As the Reverand said in his pre Queens Birthday speech "I'm not interested in what you say. I'm only interested in what you do"

I expected us to be vying for a spot in the 8 and we did but I'm not sure based on our recent history how it will burn with them.

Being so close last year didn't seem to burn enough. Being down for so long as many of these players have should absolutely burn within.

I will wait to see what the players from 2017 still on our list in 2018 actually do to show remorse and desire to atone for what they let slip on Saturday and in other games this season.

Well I don't know given that their part of a team and all it might have been a nice touch. Fully understand though that some had more important [censored] on so couldn't make it.

Didnt need all. Just the masters of the Helm. Standing united, facing those who indeed might ask a deserved question or two.

Too much to ask ?  I wouldn't have thought so. I understood the MFC to be a Club, a team. Apparently its a solo act when the Reality bus is coming around the corner.

I for one am not impressed.

The worst thing you can do in footy is squib....well.........:goody:

Dunno about the rest of you, but i have spent the last couple of days regularly clicking on 'Land.......................

I was hoping for answers..... no idea what that was even going to look like.

I was hoping i would read something, ...................ANYTHING that would make me feel better about how our year finished.

Clicked on the interview Nate Jones did today... closed it before the footage started. Dont care what was said. Words..................... Im over words. No longer expect actions either.................. Actions are what other clubs do. We do words.

Not getting much solace out of seeing how upset the rest of you are feeling either. At least i know im not alone i guess. Still not making me feel any better.

I have no idea how to feel, or what to think.

Next year means [censored] all to me right now. The players could do a video with all of them making a blood oath to each other and the fans, promising..... well, they could promise anything right now and i just wouldnt believe it. Thats where im at. All my trust in this club is gone.

How on Earth can anyone believe we will be better next year just as a matter of faith?

Im going to go into next year not believing ANY positive news coming out of the club and its players. Have been burnt by MFC too many times to take them at their word any more. The veil of negativity will be covering my face like an old Italian lady at her husbands funeral.

So flat about the footy right now i wish i could just forget the past 40 odd years and care about something else.

Problem is i was indoctrinated by my father as soon as he had the chance. What choice do i (we) have but to front up next year and do it all again.

[censored] you MFC...... Its well overdue you repaid the faithful with some success.

If we ever win another premiership the players should stand back and let the fans collect the medallions.

Players come and go... members and supporters are generally MFC until they die.

FFS even this rant didnt make me feel any better..............................................................

I hate Melbourne right now. Gonna take quite some time to repair the damage.

Boy am i gonna make them earn my trust this time. No more free rides.

Damnit, they have reduced me to a jilted lover.

You Bastards.

Demonland, I can tell you that the MFC media managers were literally assaulted with emails that were clearly written by disaffected members and supporters. I spoke with one who was deeply upset with the vitriol and nature of emails that came across her desk. The office and off field staff are hurting, the whole club is hurting. All staff were briefed this morning by PJ and Goodwin in anticipation of this. The email rsponse sent out as mentioned early in this thread was obviously in response to this.

The club captain had a presser and told us all straight that they are hurting, they realise that they let a chance slip. What else do we want,  a public flogging

For what it is worth I ran into the mother of one of our prominent players this morning and she is gutted and her son is disconolate and shattered. He wants to get out of town and be alone. He feels just as bad as we do, he is hurting and has the added burden of all the media telling him how bad the club are.

MOVE ON

In theory you are correct. But this is not the first time the club has put itself in a similar position like this.

How is the Club really going to respond this time?

there is an element of skeptisism this time around, and it is understandable

People feel cheated....

I'm looking at it this way.

If that mother of all f*** ups doesn't motivate them to perform next season, and by perform I mean being switched on for every minute of every quarter of every round, what will motivate them?

How desperately close do they need to fall short?

What amount of pain do they need to endure?

It has to burn in the guts and it has to be as powerful a motivation as you could hope to find for next season.

It has to.

Actions speak louder than words.

Last few weeks we've let opportunities slip by to cement our place in the 8.

Do the reviews, club wide if that is what it takes, train driven by the pain of missing finals.

But 2018 zero excuses, too young, too old, injuries, bad drawer, s... umpiring, I don't care, we must play finals and win finals!

Time to focus on the cricket?

I've blindly had my membership taken out each month. No longer, they don't deserve my blind loyalty.

For once I'm going to wait and see what happens. Time for the club to prove that they deserve us.

Ohhh in true ironic fashion, Demonland has become a place of fire and brimstone over the past 72 hours, and rightfully so.

I tip my hat and have nothing but respect for Jonsey, I don't know why he persists with this club, he is like the awesome bloke who loves a girl but she keeps [censored] him over and just when things come good, she does something else, he can't help but bleed red and blue...much like us I guess.

I agree that words are meaningless at this stage and trust me, there's a plasterer coming around to my place later today to fix the damage that my ever so passionate fist did to my poor innocent wall. But the next action that counts will be in March next year when round 1 hits. we just have to wait til then.

I am seriously disappointed (But they may have their own reasons) that it was only Jones that fronted the media.
Gawn, T-Mac, Vince, Goodwin. any of those 4 care to explain why they weren't there?

I am hearing a lot of "This will spurr the boys on to eprform next year"
Does anyone else see that and think BS, they've had plenty of opportunities over the past 24 months to find stuff to spurr them on and have done nothing but disappoint. the last 2 rounds of last year, numerous occasions this year etc.

But you know what really burns the most? what reallllllly burns me to my core?

Right now there is a team who had its list gutted, had to pick up draft rejects, had its name forever shamed by the worlds biggest sporting supplement saga sitting in 7th and gearing up for its finals series. As much as we all like to poke fun at Essendon we have to give it to them, they showed grit, persistence, and rose to the occasion enough this year to prove they deserve to be there, they were in the EXACT situation we were win, sitting on the cusp of the 8 facing a lesser team around the same position on the ladder in order to secure their spot, and they did that.

I think I might take 6 months of AFL, it's NFL season soon and my Oakland Raiders were an underperforming joke to the league who hadn't made playoffs in years were taken to the playoffs last year by their star recruit Derek Carr (Wears the number 4...ironic isn't it)

See y'all in 2018.
I'll still be here, floating around the ocean following the games any way I can (Which is usually updating the fox footy website)

You've got to be f*cking joking?

Essendon got the softest AFL sponsored ride I've ever seen the year. Their draw was laughably easy.

And as angry as I am at the MFC right now I'd never want to support a club that is still in denial about what happened like Essendon are. You can trot out James Hird on Grand Final day and all anyone will think is 'oh look, a convicted drug cheat that failed to admit his clear abuse of the system, and the bodies of the young men he was charged with caring for'.

I won't be giving Essendon a [censored] thing. I despise that club. I hope Sydney beat them by 200 points. They don't deserve to be there.

I'm sorry mate, I understand what you're saying, but reality is that they are gearing up to play against the Swans in the finals and we aren't simple as that.

Well that's true. The how and why is what makes me angry.

Can you tell I hate Essendon ?

Its bad enough we are the league's new official CHOKERS  but that its possible to use the cheating lot as a comparison of what CAN be done is vomit inducing.

Im still not happy nor convinced that Chunk alone should have done that Presser.

What other club would not have had the man in charge aka ' the Coach' do it...or at be there as well ?

Im becoming quite disappointed and peturbed by his abilities.

For a bloke with only one year left youd think he'd have more gumption if not bottle !!

Could not agree more bb.

I am not sure why we are surprised that Jones is carrying the can for the club he has been doing that every week for the last decade.

Wow....Some angry people on here.

Just some positives from the season

We have a first year coach .....Made some mistakes....but got us to the cusp of a final series in his first year

We were decimated by injury to our AA ruckman and a horror year for our star foward and other top line players

We won 12 and lost 10    Most supporters would have taken this at the stat of the year

we fielded the youngest side in most matches this year

We were compeitive for most of the year and just tripped up at the end.

The club will make a profit this year      (Over 40,000 members for the first time   A huge effort)

We have come so far in the past couple of years I was wrapped to be in the eight for most of the year

Excuses......No       Reasons.......Probably

Disappointed?.......Very          End of the world.........No

Anyway        Sorry to interupt the wrist slitting      Carry on

I have cut the club plenty of slack over many years.

But Bossdog, against your multiple positives, there is one major negative which cannot be overlooked.

We are serial flub artists. Multiple times this season, when the heat was on, we melted.

Once is unfortunate, twice looks like carelessness, but 5 times is a major problem in the mentality of the list.

Until that's rectified, we will forever be putting up lists of all our positives and our charitable deeds, while other clubs play finals.

Viney is supposed to be a captain even when he's not out on the ground. Should have faced the music with his co captain.

Whilst i fully accept there can be this view I dont particularly concur.

Makes neit me right nor you wrong . We are opinionating.

The basis of mine is obviously different to yours most notably about , i suppose, where you drawca line.

Somewhere back in time, deeply immersed in another emotion, i considered 9th to be about the mark. As things evolved and as you note we sat in the 8 for most of the year I think it reasonable to suggest the bar should move from 9th...to at worst 8th but 5th/6th was not an unreasonable aspiration.

This is despite all that was perceived to be going against us we were playing some really good and watchable footy. There were moments of 'fade' but overall we seemed vastly improved.

That is until it mattered. Well, yes it always mattered but when push came to shove we'd fold like a pack of cards.

Someone has to take responsibility for that. Indeed there's one whose job it is too actually do that. Currently missing in action. Im not despondent that we fluffed a gettable chance, yet again. Im not ' end of world'.... that's Kims' territory.

Im just distinctly plssed off we seem to be dysfunctional again and the bloke in charge has effectively thrown a club stalwart under the bus.

Are the big enough letters for PlSSWEAK !!

For what its worth right now, Demonland is the only thing keeping me from completely melting down and breaking everything in sight right now. To be around people who are feeling the exact same way, I know its not comforting or anything like that but it helps. Even if only very slightly.
