Sorry, i thought you were still talking about Essendon.

If WCE lose today, we still dont deserve to be there. Them losing will not make us more worthy regardless. Our finals participation will be by default only.

If Sydney started the year on fire but lost their last six games instead of starting 0-6, would you say they don't deserve to make it?

Are you barracking for West Coast tonight too Jaded? Then we can *really* punish the players!

I am about to board a plane to Melbourne. I will be wanting Adelaide to win because they are my finals team this year and I really like the way they play football.

But unlike us they have nothing to play for and West Coast do. We are the only team that epically choked this weekend. I hope West Coast are the second.

But gees I am sick and tired of our lazy pissweak mentality and it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world for our players to experience the very real consequences of putting in a half arsed effort during games.

Cool - so you wish stress and anxiety on the players, but not abject misery. Just trying to gauge your level of sadism on a scale of 1 to ding ;)

My finals team are Melbourne, as we are presently still in the 8.

It's probably me looking for anything positive, but I can't see the Crows being happy with going into the finals on the back of two losses.  They'll want to roll the Eagles, cost them a finals spot and head into the finals with at least a little bit of momentum.  That's what I'm hoping for, anyway.

Considering West Coke cost Adelaide the double chance last year you do have a point.

Apart from that I dont sure what other motivation they would have.

What was Collingwood's motivation?

Just my opinion but I think the circumstances are different. Collingwood have been under pressure all week with the Buckley factor. There's a lot of history between Melbourne and Collingwood. We embarrassed them on Queens' Birthday and that would have stung (especially after the stupid comments Adams made). Then there's the Dunn/Howe factor. They would have been salivating at the prospect of bringing down another team from playing finals, if they couldn't play themselves. Similarly, Fremantle had an opportunity to cost Essendon finals.

Different set of circumstances with Adelaide. They're locked into 1st and don't stand to gain or lose anything by risking injuries today.

I'd love nothing more than for you to be right and for Adelaide to go hell for leather today, but sadly I don't see it happening.

I don’t think one win or loss makes it that we deserve it more or less than another team. I also hate the situation we have put ourselves in. My mental health cannot take much more! Go Crows!

Only got ourselves to blame for this stupid situation. I hope the players are sitting at home feeling sick to their stomachs right now having blown a golden opportunity to make finals.

Idiots!

I'm wondering if the players are watching it together somewhere or if they are going on about their usual daily routine of social media surfing?

Try 40 points. It'll be a training drill for Adelaide, they don't care about the result now they're locked into 1st.

Good luck to them! At least they're finally giving their fans some hope and delivering on expectations. Something we've consistently failed at doing for over a decade. Like Melbourne they've put their supporters through a decade of crushed spirits but they've turned a corner, a credit to them.

Geelong, Port, Sydney, Richmond, Essendon, Hawthorn. These were all teams that needed to win this weekend for one reason or another. They had something to play for. A champion to farewell, a top 4 spot on offer, a place in the finals on offer. They have all delivered when the heat was on.

Melbourne did not.

What about the Dogs, who were still in the running for finals when they played, and were farewelling Murphy and Boyd?

Or St Kilda, who are still in the running for finals and are farewelling Riewoldt, but are currently 44 points down at HT?

Or GWS, who could have finished on top with a win but rolled over and played bog-awful football and now have to travel in their QF instead of playing it at home?

It's alright mate. Believe me, I may be blue sky and in control of my mood, but that effong hurt yesterday. You couldn't be a Melbourne supporter and not have felt kicked in the guts.

Don't despair though and definitely don't barrack for West Coast. The boys have a much better chance of redeeming themselves in our eyes if we actually make the finals, even if it is by default. I don't want this shitty feeling to be what I remember for the whole pre-season.

Carn the Crows!!

My point is that the aforementioned teams had something to play for and they delivered. Just as we did not deliver, neither did GWS, the Bulldogs or St Kilda as you pointed out. Do many rate the latter two as good teams this year?

We're certainly not the only team who stumbled badly this weekend but arguably we had the most to play for and that makes it all the more heartbreaking. At least GWS were guaranteed the double chance, they just lost a home final. We stood to lose our place in finals altogether.

Anyway, I'm checking out of this thread. If nothing else, it's proving detrimental to my mental health and I can't keep putting myself through this angst. I'll keep my fingers crossed for a miracle tonight but that veil of negativity is in full swing for me right now. :(

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full
