Ah I see. Yeah.

Feels to me like any of those other Fitzpatrick/McKenna type deals where a club doesn't really want a guy too much, the guy wants out, the club knows they don't have any bargaining power since the kid hasn't done anything. Make it happen for a regulation swap of late picks.

I don't want to be a negative nancy... but I had high hopes for guys like Kennedy. Balic comes with even less to recommend him. Seems a lot to me like it's list clogger. But I spose the club might think he's better than whoever is available at pick 60ish.

No such thing as a list clogger, there are between 40 to 42 on a list, not all can be superstars, every year 3 player's must get delisted, you need some crap players every year you don't mind delisting. Freo are dreaming if they think they can get more then a third rounder for him.

What's his ceiling? A few games over 2 years then delisted? Same as the Kennedy's etc?

I'd rather take a 1/100 punt on Schache.

Still. Like I say, the club knows what they're doing. I imagine they still view him as they did a couple of years ago when he was drafted, and think he might not be ruined yet. Same thing with McKenna.

I agree, although this year it wouldn't surprise me if Watts and Balic are our last bits of business.  I'd love something else to pop up, but I'd be happy to stick with what we have and go to the draft this time around.

Has anyone watched the video of Mahoney on the MFC website discussing the Balic trade? He says, "we've probably got other priorities at the moment, both clubs [Melbourne and Fremantle], so we think, um, we'll be able to move on that [the Balic trade] probably a bit later".

I'm not sure there's another way of interpreting that other than to say we're clearly working on another deal(s) before we turn our attention to the Balic trade.

It really boggles the mind sometimes how people interpret what they hear in the media. Either people don't listen or they simply hear what they want to hear.

So Freo want 28 for Balic and we would take 29 for Watts. It’s a weird world.

Indeed it is. The price of potential vs known I suppose.

I think we should try and swap Watts for Stringer. I think they have a reasonably equal value and both haven't quite delivered at their first clubs.

Defeats the reason why we’re seeking to trade Watts IMO.

The other priority for us could very well be what is happening with Jack Watts. I'd say that is higher up our list than Balic right now. I'd say it's as simple as that.

If you listen to his interview yesterday on SEN you'd come away being pretty sure there won't be much happening other than Balic.

STRINGER TRADE

Essendon send Francis to Adelaide & Pick 23 to Dogs.

Adelaide send Cameron & Pick 16 to Lions

Brisbane send Pick 12 back to Adelaide & Schache to Dogs

Dogs send Stringer & Pick 27 to Bombers.

Mate of mine reckons he was told by Baguley who he played juniors with.

Ess: Francis & 23 for Stringer & 27

Adel: Cameron & 16 for Francis & 12

Dogs: Stringer & 27 for Schache & 23

Lions: Schache & 12 for Cameron & 16

Seems reasonable but a lot of stuffing around with small position shuffles. I reckon the four club reps would have walked away happy but with headaches trying to keep track of all that!

Yes, i was going to write thje same thing. I did listen to it (i decided to have a quick listen and as luck would have it Mahoney was - has to be the mots boring radio possible) and there wasn't much grey in what he said. Yes to Balic and not looking at other deals.

Now of course he could be foxing and/or and unexpected opportunity might come up but it made me wonder if Taylor has his eye on a smokey ot two in the draft.

From 10:00 mark, maybe that'll answer your question?

Kind of agree, although Stringer has a few less years of bad habits under his belt. He's young enough to be changed, and I feel Watts is too far gone. I'd accept this trade in a heartbeat.

Why would the Dogs want Schache when they are already top heavy up forward with Boyd, Cloke and Crameri? Even when Cloke and Crameri retire, I can't see Boyd and Schache being a good combo.

Perhaps part of the reason for not leaving the Lever deal to the last minute is to know what trade cards we have in the event of another deal. Could be planned, might be a surprise like Lewis.

Not for the $600k Motlop is being offered by Adelaide.

It might suit both us and Geelong though.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
