People say Garlett had a bad one, I saw opportunities for him to have kicked 4. You don't drop that

It was a little frustrating when he took turned his back on the mark when we had a loose guy in the goalsquare. Judging by his body language he did realise quickly but it was too late. Could have a lot on his mind right now.

As many know I've been a critic of Jordan Lewis this year but not yesterday.  The way he played yesterday was the way I hoped he'd play the season.  He had a go, he cracked in for the hard ball and he won important contests.  If he keeps that level up he'll be very valuable.

We'll never know but is it just that he's keen to play finals, did he get a rocket or is it just form fluctuation?  Well done Lewie, I thought yesterday you led by performance rather than reputation.

The hard ball that he won at 5:35, with the game still in the balance was huge. Did exactly what he needed to do to wrestle back the momentum (along with Jones) and I really feel that he's going to fire when it most counts - the pointy end of the year.

Hibbs and Lewie were both incredible in that passage! That's the effort that gets us to finals and perish the thought wins finals.

Mitch Hannan wasn't the most outstanding player on the ground, but I swear after those 2 clutch goals in the last quarter I had a "get him up here, I wanna boof him" moment. I would have let him do anything to my body at that moment in time.

I disgust myself.

Those are the moments my friends. Those are the moments.

Gaz made a good point on SEN this morning that when these two guys from other clubs show that kind of hunger to play finals it has a massive effect.

I could have sworn if a player takes a running bounce, and one way or another gets tackled it's incorrect disposal / holding the ball. When Bruce had the bounce, muffed it, and was tackled, I was waiting for a whistle but none came. Have I completely cocked up that rule?

Hes taken 2 marks in his last 3 games. Gus is brilliant. ANB not far behind but Trac not killing it thats for sure.

Petraccas defensive efforts 1 against 2 or 3 were superb yesterday. He won't be going anywhere unless its for a well earned rest.

It's hard to follow sometimes. I'd imagine several of the 'welcome' crowd walked away from the game yesterday confused. If they were fair dinkum about following the game and learning the rules they've probably decided to stick to soccer after yesterday.

So, if they don't dispose of the ball legally it's a free kick. But hang on....

If they hit a player in the head it's a free kick. But hang on....

Those two big guys both try to tap the ball. But hang on....

What've I missed?

Im worried about his marking. It used to be the best part of his game. He's averaging one a game now when he used to have around four or five. Big difference. Maybe playing in the middle has worn him out. A rest may do wonders.

I would like to see Angus up forward. Maybe they could swap.

Yeah noticed this as well. Could also have something to do with our entries? Didn't see him targeted a whole lot and was mainly working to get to the contest once the ball came to ground.

A lot to be said for a supporter who is prepared to take one for the team.

Even more to be said for a supporter prepared to take one FROM the team.

Kudos.

Loved Jonesys game.  Saw him  on TV in the rooms before the game and he looked so focused and fired up.  I know he usually does but there was something about his body language.  He wants finals so bad and imo he was the main reason for our great start to the match and why he was BOG on the day, just ahead of Pedo.

Re: umpiring performance yesterday at the 'G'. Here's my two bob's worth, as a neutral observer of the Hawks v Kangaroos game in Tassie.  A young woman Eleni Glouftsis, at the commencement of her career as an AFL umpire adjudicated the match with more aplomb than her more senior colleagues did earlier in the day. Her bouncing of the ball at the centre bounces was also markedly superior.

The other bob; sackcloth and ashes for Saint Kilda another preseason of penance ahead!

Totally agree...

I think Jordan Lewis is most valuable and plays best through the centre and wing. I thought yesterday was his best game for the Dees. He talked this game up during the week and he obviously thrives on finals type football. Some of his efforts yesterday with his contested game was outstanding. Decision making and positioning elite also. He was a true leader by action yesterday.

I think he should see out his contract playing centre/wing. I think he is limited in defensive 50. He is the kicking player we need going forward.

Brayshaws game was terrific also. He compliments the midfield with bis height and courage. Another player who is a very goid kick and decision maker. He has a more balanced game with kicking and handball and provides a bit more outside run. Awesome to see his game yesterday!

Exactly....that was the single moment when our whole season probably hung in the balance.  A loose ball 15 m out from the St.Kilda goal when they had got back to 4 points behind from a 7 goal deficit.

JL just had to go, and he did.

It stopped their momentum and as you have suggested, those sort of actions count when it matters most.

You are spot on. I suspect what happened is the same as if he had fumbled the ball and was tackled. The ump would have deemed he wasn't in possession but clearly he had incorrectly disposed of it.

There is no doubt it should have been afree and the goal should not have been allowed. I would like to see Goodwin challenge that call as well as Gawn's 5

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
