Can someone explain why when North show him the door they can expect much in return?

I guess they have a responsibility to their members to get the best possible outcome.

We are probably more than fair at the table under Mahoney and Co. so I'd imagine it will be pick 25 plus a little more.

Hopefully not a future first rounder but we must remember that we're getting 3X 60 goal kicker a year full forward.

It will be interesting if he wishes to keep number 50 and wear that at the Demons? I am not against that possibiliity if Ben wants to keep wearing that number even if it is quite a high one. Have the Demons had many players wear number 50? ?

Going back through the archives, some decient players have worn in the moden era Jetta, Dyson, Brett Lovett...but only for a season or so.

Playing a bit on the number, some may say that 50 would be appropriate, because Brown is twice the player of T Mac...  but I wouldn't be one of them.  I do really value the contribution that T Mac has made over the journey.  He played some pretty solid footy as a backman in a time when we were getting smashed every week, could have sought greener pastures but didn't.  Really enjoyed his good work as a forward whilst it lasted.  I wish him well where ever he ends up and do hope he has some good years of footy in him, just not against us!

So Demonlanders.  What is Ben Brown worth?

Brown for MFC 2020 Pick 25* (ie. Hawks 2nd rounder) ?

or

Brown & NMFC 2021 3rd round pick for
MFC 2020 Pick Pick 25* ?

I would've thought this should be a simple swap for 25 which seems a big steal since that pick will become about 35-40 with all the academy and free agency picks. There was talk yesterday on trade radio about north being interested in Brayshaw. I'd maybe look at Brayshaw + 25 for Brown + 11, and then on trade 11 + Tmac for Treloar + Phillips.

Glad that Brown has now publicly nominated us, but I won't be celebrating until it's a done deal and/or we get through this whole trade period without giving up a player we'd rather hold onto.  Something about counting chickens and hatching them.

No, you’re wrong. There was no talk. SOS thought of a possible trade that could include Gus. He stated that he had no knowledge of North being interested in Gus, it was just his opinion.

This is how rumours start.

there is a place on here for that!

have to agree with Cheney's description of the way the discussion unfolded. Silvagni was playing the role of the (Carlton) agent provacateur. Rendell questioned Silvagni's suggestion as it would be an unfair trade for the Dees, and carried on with his contention that 23 (or whatever it becomes) is fair value and Dees should just go ahead and get it done. True to form, Barrett tried to continue the discussion sensing some easy headlines IMV. Did I sense a bit of miff from Silvagni about the unfolding win for the Dees? Yes  ☺️

I still can’t believe Norf fans exist. Like I know they do, and each one of them is a [censored], but like why?

Hey, I'll have you know that two of my brothers are North Melbourne fans.

I'll also have you know that your assessment is spot on in their case.

I think North fans better get ready for disappointment, they’ve basically made Brown staying at North impossible and they have only one piece of leverage, saying they’ll let him walk (which in their current situation they really don’t want).

They’ve just moved on a lot of players, how are they stocked for defenders? Brown for pick 23 and Oscar perhaps?

Yes, I see Oscar McD as a really good fit for North. He could possibly re-build his career there - developing skills, attributes, intensity, speed at the ball, competitiveness - all these factors in the hands of a better coach and FD than those of the MFC over the past (...how many years has it been?) timeframe.

Mods, can we change the title of this thread to "Ben Brown wants to be a DEMON"???

It looks better.

Yep it's called every thread and saying I am hearing ?????.

Then when that poster is pulled up on it by another poster who heard or read it elsewhere.

Said poster responds with, I don't read that site/paper or I didn't hear that interview I'm just passing on what I have heard

Exactly. Most people on here talk more [censored] than the Werribee Sewage Farm.
99.99% of people on here have No idea and just like the sound of their own voices.

We must also remember his poor 2020 season and that he's 28, uncontracted and unwanted at North. Surely Mahoney's not stupid enough to give up a first rounder. Never know with his generosity though.

I’m slightly worried North will be hard to deal with. Inexperienced manager whose main qualification is “ex-footy player” in Brady Rawlings at the helm, currently under the influence of another meathead ex-footballer turned board member in Glenn Archer, during a time when they’re a complete shambles as an organisation. It has Peter Bellend written all over it.

I’m glad we’ve still got Mahoney at the helm. At least I can be sure our party will negotiate in good faith.

West Coast list manager since 2016? Seems like something slightly above “ex-player”?

BEN BROWN

The key forward has elected Melbourne as his preferred club after Essendon expressed interest. The Demons are not willing to part with pick No.25, however, which could make a quick deal difficult. Told he was surplus to requirements at North, reducing the possibility of a prime draft pick in return. (AFL.com.au)

From the AFL website (Bucks beat me to it) :-

Inside Trading: The 12 biggest deals of this year's Trade Period

Interesting that we don't want to use pick 25.

Think someone suggested on here that we intend to offer our future 2nd instead. Can see multiple picks being swapped in this deal.

A 3rd rounder it is then.

I know North fans are thick with this logic, but they've painted themselves into a corner.  They offered a deal, he rejected it and then neither really came back to the table.  North were then dumb enough to say they didn't want him anymore and wanted to trade him.  If they had any sense they would have at least tried to make it look like they wanted him, but as it is, they can't go demanding something decent in return as they've made it clear how they feel about him.

Good on us for potentially playing some hardball with it.

Good news to get Brown as I was thinking the signing of Jones was going to be another tanking year.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.

  • CASEY: Sandringham

The Casey Demons rebounded from a sluggish start to manufacture a decisive win against Sandringham in the final showdown, culminating a quarter century of intense rivalry between the fluctuating alignments of teams affiliated with AFL clubs Melbourne and St Kilda, as the Saints and the Zebras prepare to forge independent paths in 2026. After conceding three of the first four goals of the match, the Demons went on a goal kicking rampage instigated by the winning ruck combination of Tom Campbell with 26 hitouts, 26 disposals and 13 clearances and his apprentice Will Verrall who contributed 20 hitouts. This gave first use of the ball to the likes of Jack Billings, Bayley Laurie, Riley Bonner and Koltyn Tholstrup who was impressive early. By the first break they had added seven goals and took a strong grip on the game. The Demons were well served up forward early by Mitch Hardie and, as the game progressed, Harry Sharp proved a menace with a five goal performance. Emerging young forwards Matthew Jefferson and Luker Kentfield kicked two each but the former let himself down with some poor kicking for goal.
Young draft talent Will Duursma showed the depth of his talent and looks well out of reach for Melbourne this year. Kalani White was used sparingly and had a brief but uneventful stint in the ruck.
