Pies fans want out of QB Big freeze match

If they'd prefer to play against North Melbourne on Sunday afternoon instead of that atmosphere yesterday, I'm sure Essendon wouldn't mind having a kick on the QB holiday. As despicable as the Bombers are, I'm sure they'd love to get behind Neale and the MND cause.

I think it would be quite reasonable to share the gate with Collingwood on an alternating basis, but if they'd prefer to take their bat and ball instead, no worries. I think they might be struggling with the concept that Collingwood is not the centre of the universe.

is it just for qb or does it apply to other pie away games at the mcg?

They have a contract to play minimum 14 (or is it 17?) games at the G and they have reserved seating in he Ponsford for all those games, home AND away. Not sure if that includes ANZAC Day or not. It was renegotiated when the new Ponsofrd/Northern stands were built I believe or it may have been to do with the MCG giving up the rights to finals games when the interstate side was the "home" team (these things may have coincided).

TBH the agreement by the Pies to give us the home ground status for all QB games and therefore the money is rather generous.

If Eddie goes at the end of the year will be interesting to see if the new administration continues the "favour".

Personally I hate being the beneficiary of AFL (or even worse Collingwood) "charity" but I can't see it changing for a while and if the big clubs keep getting stronger the gap will just get wider.

I don't remember the details, but I seem to remember that the plus side for Collingwood in giving us the home game on Queens birthday was something like this:

1.  Collingwood avoided having to play a home game at Etihad, (As every other MCG team had to)

2. They kept more 'blockbusters' against the BIG clubs, Essendon, Carlton, Richmond, Hawthorn.

Nevertheless, whilst it is not 'Charity' it is still a good thing for the MFC and I have no idea why people want to find a reason to slag Eddie for this.

The average Collingwood fan can barely rub 2 brain cells together.

I have read some of those posts on bigfooty.  One of them claiming that our [censored] club is cursed citing Jimmy Bailey and Neale as examples.

They are a disgrace of a club and have no respect.

I hate them.

It is more Collingwood supporters calling it charity.

Personally i am amazed this fixturing still exists, but as good as it is I am sure Collingwood get a good deal on the day.

We got QB when we had nothing else

If things change now we are in more of a position to negotiate.

QB started from 1958 when 99,000 + came to see Melbourne and Collingwood play during the season.

Still a record that stands. So i like it, but now it is just another game. PJ is making sure of that

The Collingwood supporters on that board and those who whinge about "charity" are too thick to see the benefits their own club gets out of the day. Do you really think Eddie would do anything solely out of the goodness of his heart? He doesn't do anything that doesn't benefit Collingwood in some way. They get to bank another game at the G, they have sole ownership over reserved seating in the Ponsford stand and they get the exposure of another marquee/standalone game on the footy calendar.

Qb at the G

Standalone and free to air. Massive coverage. Fantastic for the sponsors....eh Eddy ;)

No change I have been going to these games since 1960. Over that period I would imagine the Pies have won more than us.

Not sure why we are getting hot and bothered by a few half wit Pies supporters. The CFC understand the significance of this event. It will continue on for decades.

Their fans might moan and groan about it but their management sure don't. For all the reasons outlined above.

They might one day argue for shared gate takings or alternate year gate takings but they won't ever argue they shouldn't get to play another game at the G. Social club $$$ & no travel. Double bonus.

What the club should have done is waited for the rest of the northern stand to be built and take the Olympic stand area as the home and away seating, with the cheer squad then behind the goals at the Southern Stand end.

And doesn't that just sum up the CFC mentaility to everything around football. "We'll just stroll in *take* what we want."

I actually respect them as a club and a lot of their history is the games history, especially in the formative years of the comp. But their supporters, my god they are something else. A lot of them are reasonable, I have several friends and my uncle/cousins on my mums side are Collingwood. My mums dad was Collingwood too. I was raised to hate them by my dad but recently I've got more of a hate/respect thing going on with them as a club.

A lot of other clubs have idiot supporters but Collingwoods are a whole other level of aggression bordering on/turning into violence.

I think arrogance costs them. They have the worst kind of arrogance.  The kind that is based on nothing.  This current group has achieved zero.

I like to see myself as a moderate and fairly level emotionally for a footy fan until it comes to the filth.

They can GAGF the lot of them.  A ducking disgrace of an organisation.

The thing to remember is that Collingwood make high 6 figure sums profit from luncheons seating packages every time they play at the G. Of course they're not going to toss it away because of a few of their ill educated supporters get upset over a loss. What ought to concern them more are the wide open spaces behind the goals at the Ponsford stand end when their team is really struggling. (like last year )

Just a guess SJ but you are not keen on the Pies?

See for example the cheering for Dunn by our cheer squad after being injured in a contest and the ducking scumbag filths treatment of Cloke.

Let us bask and let them wallow.

 Up yours filth.

Here's the Big Footy thread that I think we may be referring to here: https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/collingwood-need-to-end-their-association-with-melbourne-on-qb.1168243/

I try to avoid that place at the best of times, however if recent political events have taught us anything, we should seek out the opinions of those who disagree with us, do away with the confirmation bias......and then have a big old chortle at the pies supporters! Haha!!

Exactly! Who needs to "find a reason to slag Eddie" when so many reasons just jump out front and centre to say 'pick me'!

lol they're taking the loss particularly well this year.

For the record I have no qualms about alternating it as a home fixture to shut them up. But I'd be equally pleased to see them [censored] off altogether. We can play the Bummers instead. No dramas.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
