Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The Importance of Jordan Lewis

One of the worst 34 possession games I have seen.

Didn't like him berating a few teammates when his decision-making and positioning was questionable.  His kick in-board to Hogan was puzzling.  His shepherd for McDonald on Preust was great.

Watts had a shocker, but I prefer him to play the easiest gig in town (plus one in D50); especially when he aint firing a shot up forward.  At least he can compete in the air.

Talking about the "+1".  Why was Jetta loose in defence in the last 2 minutes when we needed to go all out attack.

Definitley got some match ups wrong. Especially in the backline. I didnt like our tactics today. Very poor I thought. I dont even think Brad Scott was trying to win. I think he was shocked they win.

Jordan Lewis kick cost us the game and Hogan. [censored] house decision and kick Jordan! Pits!

Lewis has been a great pickup. Great game on the weekend too. Was never brought in to be our best player, but hes a wise hand and makes a valuable contribution on and off the field.

And if yesterday showed anything its that we are practically bereft of leadership at times. Can't have enough experienced players.

He got " clean bowled" which is not a good sign .

His hands are terrible- the rest of his game is faultless.

Hes one of the most decorated fumblers I've ever seen so maybe he has been for years.

Yep, berated OMac and Frost on different occasions, kicked a shocker to Hogan which ended up breaking his collar bone, and then didn't put his body on the line for that last passage of play. Tmac or Watts would've been better as a loose man.

There was a moment where he went to ground in defence when they kicked a goal, where I couldn't work out whether he was tripped or if he accidentally showed that he deliberately goes to ground when the ball has gone past and he's been beaten. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt this time.

He's not infallible! Geez, reading some of the comments in this thread you'd think he was Lucas Cook.

The simple fact is this: we're yet to win a single game without Lewis in the side, which makes his win loss ratio pretty enviable compared to other teammates. Something to think about.

Yep when Lewis is left one out in the backline, he can't do it all. That happens too much

We're a fickle bunch.

Was only a few weeks ago when Jordan milked the 30 shot clock from ANB against the Blues and we all thought the sun shone out his arse.

Personally, I think he'll be playing at Casey at some stage next year as our youngsters blossom further - due in part to some of his guidance.

Though he's not what he was a few years ago at the Hawks, I still think he's had a good patch of form leading up to finals. He's hitting his straps at the right end of the year. His leadership and direction out on field have been great.

His main weakness at this point seems to be getting down and taking ground balls cleanly. Thing is, if he isn't able to take it cleanly and there is pressure, he positions himself in a way that he earns a free kick, gains us possession of the ball and releases the pressure. It's smart, and some of our other mids need to learn this instead of panicking and just knocking it to an opposition player in fear they will get caught and pinged with a free kick.

Lewis is cooked IMO. He makes too many skill errors for a player of his pace. And his ability to pick up the ground ball is just about the worst in the AFL.

His poor ground ball work has definitely been more obvious under the pressure of operating in the D50 - something he probably didn't do too much of it in his Hawthorn days.

well and truly cooked IMO. Going on 'well done' with another couple of years to run on his contract. I'd move him into a coaching role at the end of the year.

For someone who had such good skills his skills are terrible.

He also panics when under pressure horribly.

I'd put him on a half forward flank.

We already have Watts playing that role (the panicking that is. )

I think Lewis's form has generally been trending upwards over the past month (from a fairly low base), but his biggest shortcoming in his refusal to take the hit occasionally. Instead he'll fire out a hospital handball or short pass and let one of his teammates get clobbered (Hogan being just one of many examples). I shudder to think what he and Vince could concoct together over the next month.

His skills are overrated. I have always thought Lewis is more of an accumulator. Not a very effective player though. But I tell you what, he was tough at Hawthorn, I give him that much, he was actually a tough guy, he went in hard, and he was a ballsy player. At Melbourne he is not very tough. He is more of a squib. Anytime that ball hits the deck he doesn't want it, he panics and he fumbles. I think he has mentally checked out.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
