If only it were that easy.

I could see the Crows digging in their heels a little at the prospect of losing yet another key defensive player, especially after losing Bock and Davis.  With other clubs interested they may see if they can get a better deal and try and drive up the price.  I'm not sure just our first rounder will get it done.

    And so they should.

    Lever was a pick 14 and I think posters should remember that he slipped in the draft having missed his full last U/18's year of footy. He's now considered the best young defender in the competition.
     

    Combine that with the years of development that Adelaide have put in to him and objectively one would agree that the crows actually do deserve more than pick 10 only.

    I know that if I were a crows supporter I'd be wanting more than pick 10.

    I don't see it.

    They have re-signed McGovern and they may look to get Gibbs in. They may come to the realisation something has to give, they have quality defenders and probably not a lot of room to move given what Lever may command.

    I feel like it could be one of those big complicated deals if it goes through as hoped. The Crows are in a premiership window so picks aren't aren't as important, could see a 3/4 way deal that sees the Crows receive a player as well as our pick 10 and we get Lever plus a pick/player.

    Who really knows though.

    Then a 3 way trade with Carlton including an exchange of picks does make sense.

    IMO

    Lever is a very good player showing leadership and AA potential based on this season and worth pick 10 with some kind of sweetner

    Whitfield is worth the same in terms of trade value. But mark my words he will cost a lot more next year. Watch his finals series last season when the heat was really on. His decision making, ball use and running power are A grade.

    Omac took rapid strides this season and whilst he isn't Lever he's shown plenty of positives for pick 53 early in his career.

    We have seen the team defence work well this season and fall away as cattle went missing and when lack of pressure around the middle cut up our zone.

    Will they improve again next year.  Yes IMO with or without Lever. Trengove from Port will also improve us greatly

    What we lack most is a polished outside mid to improve our delivery inside 50.

    Get the ball in quick, reduce the overuse of handball and make good decisions  and see how more effective our forwards are. Even young Wied on a quick lead and not having to go arm in arm due to poor slow delivery would benefit greatly and cause headaches.

    If it is a choice in using all our currency on Lever or getting Trengove as a FA and using our currency on an outside gun I know what I would prefer

    Sounds like Jake Stringer wants out and is on the table.

    Still has youth on his side. But has alot of hamstring trouble and his final series was ordinary for his talent and size. Not a big game player!

    But, on a slightly more realistic note - yes Whitfield would make a huge difference and might be more gettable

    That's where we differ then. I don't think he is just a solid defender.

    If we went to the draft and took a guy as good as Lever with pick 10 then you would be over the moon. Well... I would be. 

    That's why I think it will cost more than pick 10.

    Good analysis, but it's too early to grade the last three. 4/13 still isn't a great strike rate.

    This. Remember he was coming back from the 'doping' scandal and had a point to prove but his run and ball use were outstanding. Is pretty tough as well.

    He is in the shadow of Kelly and others there so may want to step outside of that and get paid a bomb....

      Round 7 gets underway in iconic fashion with the traditional ANZAC Day blockbuster. The high-flying Magpies will be looking to solidify their spot atop the ladder, while the Bombers are desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top eight. Later that evening, Fremantle will be out to redeem themselves after a disappointing loss to the Demons, facing a hungry Adelaide side with eyes firmly set on breaking into the top four. Saturday serves up a triple-header of footy action. The Lions will be looking to consolidate their Top 2 spot as they head to Marvel Stadium to clash with the Saints. Over in Adelaide, Port Adelaide will be strong favourites at home against a struggling North Melbourne. The day wraps up with a fiery encounter in Canberra, where the Giants and Bulldogs renew their bitter rivalry. Sunday’s schedule kicks off with the Suns aiming to bounce back from their shock defeat to Richmond, taking on the out of form Swans.Then the Blues will be out to claim a major scalp when they battle the Cats at the MCG.       For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

      The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
