TEAM SELECTION AND MATCH PREVIEW - ROUND 3

Goody giving everyone a go, to see what they can do and good on him, while we are winning it is really good team management to boost up the experience as well...

Really loving this success, with constant interest week to week.

Then look forward to another B class rookie stepping up sometime in the season,  91kg of inside midfielder in Corey Maynard, getting better every game and training session

Sounds like Goodwin has a plan to deal with Selwood and Dangerfield:cool:"Like all teams we'll have some scenarios that we can go to depending on how those two guys are going..."

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2017-04-06/demons-back-infrom-mids-to-take-on-dangerwood

But he isn't giving much away on selections:  "...revealed midfielder Tom Bugg and versatile tall Cam Pedersen were in the selection conversation....He also forecast the club could blood a third player for the season, with mature-aged recruit Tim Smith a strong chance to join round-one starters Joel Smith and Mitch Hannan as Demon debutants in 2017..."

Goodwin may be being coy but no mention of Kent...  Is it conceivable that Bernie might miss (...to send everyone a message...).  I doubt it but stranger things have happened.

With Bugg, Petersen and Smith in the conversation and Bernie to come back there may be more changes than we think!

He won't miss but Hannan might get a spell.

OUT: Hogan, Lewis, Hannan

IN: Vince, Smith, Kent

If Smith gets a run that is Pedo finished.  Goody must not be a fan of the big fella, lack of pace/mobility maybe?  I have a soft spot for him and will miss the bumps

How many games back has Peds had vs Smithy who has trained all preseason?

That is exciting seeing more kids get a go and our depth increasing as a result.

its great and follows the path Beveridge did at the Bulldogs: now they have the best depth and most even side in the comp.

Fremantle are an example of what can happen if you don't blood enough youth early enough, the bottom can really fall out of the team.

No, I won't give you an alternative model.  I'm just picking the flaws in yours, as you have based the % game played on the previous week when we had an extra tall to use.  If we don't replace Hogan for another tall, then your "model" is worthless.

This week, we don't necessarily need an extra tall.  Hannan is a renowned leaper - maybe he's the one that can sacrifice getting the ball, by ensuring he launches at contests to bring the ball down to our other small forwards.

Yeah, you were saying?

They (the 3) spent an extra 20% on the ground in the first game when we had the extra tall playing.  Adding that 20% just throws out Fifty-5's model.

I said in a post earlier this week that it'll be interesting to see how selection plays out this week.  I personally don't think we are desperate for an extra tall to replace Hogan, and clearly some others do (to the point where they are trying to predict game time %).  I won't slit my wrists if Goody doesn't agree with me.  I just hope we win.

Didn't realise it was a competition, 55.

But as I said in a different post, which I have pt up above for you, I didn't think we needed the extra tall, but clearly Goody did.  I'm happy to back Goody on this one.

Your "model" was still flawed.

Yeah maybe Goodwin picked Smith because we can only win at Etihad with someone called Smith in the team, or maybe it was Capricorn Goodwin's natural affinity for Pisces Smith.

Or maybe my analysis was right and we do want to retain 2 tall forwards on the ground for the majority of the time.

Harmes?, you've got to be joking. When the game was on the line, he was probably our best player in the last quarter. ANB's workrate and forward pressure over both games will be rewarded, and he shouldn't get dropped. Frost is underdone, and won't be considered. If you want Kent and Smith in the team, Melksham should be the one to make way.

Maybe,.... I  Got Smith correct and he will surprise many with his strength and presence. Expect plenty of upside. Yes I can see where you are coming from with Melksham and for mine he would want to place himself front and square rather than just expect dish offs. Gets another week or tow to improve!

Would still like Kent in if fit and possibly Frost. Bernie in is a given. Time to be a bit bold even though two suspensions is not ideal!

I'm still coming to terms with the fact that Jetta isn't part of Goodwin's plans.

Jetta has been superb.  It's going to be fascinating to see the make up of defence when Hibberd, Frost, Wagner and J.Smith are all available.

Lewis -> Vince

Hogan -> Smith

Give Kent, Frost, etc another week at Casey to present a stronger case for recall, build fitness and form, etc...

I'm still not sure that Wagner will be a certain starter when fit. Jetta, Salem, Tom McDonald, Hibberd and Hunt are all in, then you look and I like Joel Smith, that leaves probably another possible inclusion, as Vince and Jones will both spend time at Half Back, Frost or Melksham for mine.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
